I find a lot in the red brick restaurant type buildings. That and as has already been mentioned, garages. If you're on normal, I might have one on me. Pretty sure my HC char only has a backpack full of M4 sights.

The only time I have any luck with an M4 is when I stick the barrel almost inside someone and pull the trigger. The majority of cases it seems like yelling bang at them will do more harm than the M4. Mosin is accurate and hits like a brick through a window, SKS is a good compromise if you're after a bit of rapid fire for close quarters and retain half decent accuracy over longer ranges.

A guy blocking the only exit is what I'd count as a threat, even with two people. I'd have done exactly the same in his case. I also lost a mosin with LRS to a freshie, I let him live earlier and he ran up behind me and punched me once in the back of the head. KO then killed me with my own gun. I'm currently in the middle of a murder everything that moves bender in retaliation. I'm sure I'll go back to friendly again soon. Helmets all round from now on though.

Going through the other videos, he appears to have hacked in a few of the other weapons/items. That or he is running a private hive. Also a bunch of the old arma 2 vehicles

Do they share ammo with anything else? My best guess is that guns are more likely to be added if the ammo isn't unique.

First impressions and: I am doing it wrong? Basic gearing up dilemma

I gear up on 40 player servers now. You're almost guaranteed not to bump into someone the moment you get 1km from the coast. Much more likely to find the other 2 people on a low pop server at an airfield, full servers everyone is too scared. Most of the time you end up in some half decent military kit, plenty of guns and ammo. As opposed to if you stick to the coast, where you end up brightly coloured, without ammo and wielding an assault rock. -
If we get a Tommy gun, I want an Enfield again. Not because they were good, just so I can run around screaming "Anyone in Cherno?" and smashing off dinnerbell shots.

I was on a 3 player server, the two of us logged in in elektro because a server crash had dumped us in the middle of the street. We ran around a bit like mad bastard just wasting ammo and being dickheads. Nek Minnit a guy runs around in front of the hospital with what seemed like every zombie in elektro chasing him and kicking the shit out of him. Snap decision, we killed his zombies, bandaged him, gave him food and water and sent him on his way. Normally anything that moves in Elektro must die. -
What if you miss? He hears a bang, he is still alive, he might kill you. He may have friends. There may be other unknown people in the area. There may be zombies. All of these are less of an issue if your weapon is almost as quiet as a mouse farting.

Any and all bolt/arrow/rock propelling devices will be welcomed into the game by me.

The zombies in DayZ are actually just living people infected with a virus. They die like errybody else.

I think the main argument that supports the MP5 is the plethora of attachments available. Would be a great platform to test.

Would much prefer abandoned soviet tunnels/missile silo/etc. Fits the theme and still has that spooky as hell underground feel.

And then their friend turns your hiding place into swiss cheese. A twang and then a death means they have no idea where you are. So long as you aren't a retard that runs immediately to the dead body.

Almost silent = ambush king. They can't shoot you if they are already dead.

Climbing stuff in Cherno with a few friends on release day so we could see the layout and what had changed. I hear on teamspeak, "Can I test out the zeroing on this mosin?" Bang. You Are Dead.

MP5 would be my guess. Ammo is already in the game, iconic weapon, lots of attachments to test.
