Only one of them was unarmed, but I was pinned in the hospital after taking one out on the stairs and a sniper off the roof, he climbed the ladder and ran for the snipers body that had a pristine mosin and a lot of ammo on it. Snap decision was to put him out of my misery so I wouldn't have to worry about him. I could have scared him off but would have been wondering if he was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs when we eventually made our escape.

I was in elektro today geared up, trying to pull a friend out and trying to find him saline. Yes we could have just switched to a low pop server but that ruins the game for me. I had to take out 3 players in my rescue attempt but let far more than that live.

He said he was geared. That = threat for me. Moving through an area is dangerous when it has a few unknowns toting rifles running about. Even if they are friendly, I don't know the army guy is any different from every other army guy. Calling out is a good way to reveal my position and get ganked because 95% of elektro army dudes are there for the slaughter.

The problem isn't just with the geared players. If I'm on the coast, as I do frequently wander, I see heavily armed folk like me, or fresh/fairly new players. 8/10 times I'll observe and bypass heavily armed players, The other 2/10 are unavoidable confrontation or if I see them taking out/pantsing fresh spawns who aren't being hostile. The main problem I have on the coast are fresh spawns going for the 1 hit KO, or partially geared players that want to try their luck. Today for example, I saw two guys with construction helmets and melee weapons being hounded by zombies, I killed their zombies for them, ejected the rounds out of the mosin I was holding and went to drop it on the ground for one of them. His response was to rip a sawn off out of his bag and have a crack. He missed and wasn't ready for me to pull out my SKS and turn him into zombie food and his mate grabbed the mosin I had dropped and tried to have a crack as well, not knowing it was empty. Needless to say they came off second best in this encounter. At this point a fresh as fuck player stepped out from behind a bush, said "Don't shoot" and put his hands up, making no attempt to approach me or the bodies. I told him anything on them was free for him to take, gave him a wave and went on my merry way.

I was on a coast walk. I see fresh spawns, they run for me. I tell them to back up or they will get fired upon. They then run at me yelling about how friendly they are. Then after they die they abuse me.

This is DayZ. If it can kill you, it will.

My first standalone unfair death was on the shipwreck. I was standing still, talking to a friend. Then we both started bouncing uncontrollably and fired off into space, landing somewhere in the ocean.

I always find sporter mags when I already have another gun with too much ammo to throw away, or find a sporter and never get a mag.

Have found both in police stations and camo airfield buildings.

Stealth

The M4 is as useless as tits on a bull, magpull parts or no.

Sawn off used to do more than moderately upset whoever is hit by it. Also, are there meant to be slugs still? When there were no shotguns we had slugs.

I'm sorely tempted to bin it and use the SKS for breaching. My last 2 experiences have had my opponent survive and or me die. Both at short/point blank range.

Played with a guy today, he took out two fully geared players with 3 bullets from the sporter. Gotta get headshots or it is laughably weak.

To get killed on sight, you need to be seen. Also, if you run at an armed man yelling friendly, he'll probably kill you. I would.

So, I just opened the front door of a police station, only to see a guy standing there facing the door, standing over a dead body not even a metre inside the door. Had my sawn off out, as I normally do when breaching a building, instant reaction was to feed him both barrels. I saw blood spray all over him but instead of instant death, he swore at me, fired a mosin round and bolted up the stairs. I was a little disappointed to say the least.

If I had just washed up on a beach in an unfamiliar place full of zombies, I don't think I could hit the broad side of a barn, having little to no real world firearms experience.

I was going to come, then it was 4am before the server was announced.

One thing I learnt very quickly about DayZ, most people cannot hit a moving target for the life of them. So I employ a rather loose version of stealth. Seen here, stealth:

Have fed both barrels of a long barrel to someone at about 15m. They lived and killed me with 1 shot from a 22. Saw blood spray from at least half a dozen points from the buckshot. Though if you stick the ol sawn off into their guts and pull the trigger, bye bye.
