How to farm loot. A guide to collecting what you want. (Outdated)
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tra - If you run to a loot spot and it is empty and then run away too quickly, loot will not respawn no matter how many times you come and go. You actually have to be in its proximity to generate loot anyway. Regardless of what you say it depends on your speed to get in and out of town. If you take a long time to get through a town, half of the town is likely to be empty, the other half may have loot. Then you know to go back to the other side and check for loot. The only difference between what you are saying and I am saying is 'Don't pick up the stuff you don't need' versus 'Pick up everything and come back to it later so loot respawns.' What you offer is a town eventually becoming starved of its supplies. What is discussed here is how loot works. My playstyle is in the posts, not the starting post. You are attempting to say 'How loot works' is how I play. When merely I know how it works and keep it in mind. Server Hopping is not the same as Loot cycling. If you server hop ONTOP of a barracks and noone has been around, you won't spawn loot because you are too close. A Hopper will just go to another server either because nothing is there, or garbage is there because someone else has generated loot and hasn't taken anything worth taking. I agree, I strongly encourage PVP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff5DlpZiMZ0 -

How? Frost, lets brainstorm for a moment. Imagine if you had a farm, and you could grow crops, raise animals for food, and had it fairly fortified. You are living large, tons of ammo and have your routes planned out. Now, lets says every single person in the area KNOWS that's your damn farm, and you got food, drinks, and everything they WANT. You've spent months fortifying it from zombies and people. You've got the goods. People WANT your goods. People WANT your camp. I love the PVP aspect personally. and we always get into firefights from other bandits and survivors trying to take over our spot. We die, they die. We laugh and have a lot of fun. Now, I love going from city to city. Ive been playing for months now and personally, the constant paranoia of someone watching you or MIGHT be near you is far scarier than going from empty town to empty town. That, however, is my personal opinion and I run a fairly successful clan. My experience my vary. -

@ Kwilt - If you get bad artifacting, you should close your game. After I relog the one time completely and close Arma and come back, I don't have the issue for a couple of hours. @Traj - I deeply frown upon server hopping/disconnecting to avoid PVP, and up until recently our server banned for it. However, we were informed by Day-Z staff you are actually not allowed to ban for server hopping. There are ways around server hoppers however, and ways to protect your servers loot locations if you are smart about it. You are saying that anyone who picks up loot or knows how loot works means you are exploiting. By your definition, even if the loot took twenty minutes to despawn, if you stay in that location or city and go back to pick up loot. You are exploiting. That's laughable. -Frowns deeply at the duplication comment.- I really do dislike people who do that. -

Loot cycling is not the same as server hopping. Both are equally lame though. Not really. I'd say securing a position' date=' holding it, and allowing yourself and/or your team to continually collect loot isn't 'lame'. [/quote'] It makes me use fortifications like barbed wire and sandbags around cities to hold it down like its an actual base. It's really fun when some bandits try to raid your 'city' you own and it turns into a massive firefight. -

See Daze, now you are just assuming. I never said I was innocent. I am a pretty well known bandit in the bandit campfire. I would sooner kill you for your can of beans than anything else. We have a difference of opinion. While I am calm and collective about it, explaining things, you are assuming and trying to find a weakpoint to go "HA I GOT YOU." My thread title is as intended, to explain to people how to farm loot properly. How people apply that is up to them. -

Pizza is in the oven. And yes, sometimes loot will transfer over to another individual. So long as the person INSIDE isn't tied to the loot. You'll know when its tied to the person inside because nothing is coming in. @Cappy - You are reading how it works, not how I work. There is a difference. I suggest you read everything. Like the part where I said "Or go somewhere else." -

So using a gun intended to kill someone is an exploit? (This is a Metaphor.) Are you listening to yourselves? If you know loot works on way, as it is intended right now, there is nothing wrong besides your morals. You may not want to do it, I may. Just like I may shoot you in Chenro when I freshly spawn in, you may blood-bag someone. You are no court of law, you are applying feedback on a thread like I am. What you are implying is anyone who picks up loot is potentially exploiting, with the simple fact they may know how loot works or not. Be right back~ Dinner time. Feel free to continue to the discussion if you'd like. -

So your only problem is. We clean up a town like trashmen, then go to another town, repeat, then go around from place to place? The only thing is we are aware that loot will never respawn? Tin cans are only useful if you want to throw it at a player and Axe them to death. Blt is pretty good at that. Scared of that man. -

@ Daze - There is no difference. If you stay in a major hotspot for awhile, someone is going to come across you. If someone is running up on a city in the north, they will see the Zed's spawning anyway in the distance and they know someone is there. Either way, you are risking your life MORE staying in one location, because people know you are there. I recommend sweeping out one city, then running to another. When I died recently I cleaned out Chenro and found a bunch of goodies. Too many tin-cans. Made me cry inside. -

We don't wait for it to respawn. We go to several locations clearing the cities out as we move. Like I stated, We go to several hotspots, looking for PVP and clearing out cities as we move. Doesn't that interfer with Rockets statement about the cleanup? "checks the building to see when loot was last spawned. If it was spawned' date=' and is old, it will delete that equipment (cleanup) and then let the building sit empty for a while[/b'] Depends upon how 'long' this timer is. As several people posted, this is either incorrect or broken. -

@ Tul - Not even logical. Even if you never come back to a loot spawn, that loot will forever be the same UNTIL someone picks it up. Meaning that tin can you saw in the market forever ago and you needed canned food, will never be anything else BUT a tin can until you pick up the tin can. @ Daddy - That post is two months old with several patches done to the game to fix loot. Loot will never despawn from a building. I suggest you try it. We waited over eight hours for loot to despawn once in a market, ran away to Starry from Vybor, came back to Vybor four hours later, no new loot. Now, maybe thats unintended. But loot doesn't despawn until the server restarts. -

How to counter server hoppers Put Tank traps in the firestation and barracks, or important locations. Watch them spawn in and break their legs, or it glitches and throws them into debug forest. ??? Profit. -

Yes. @ Never - There is a big difference between loot cycling and exploiting. That's like saying 'I only go into cities I see way off in the distance with zombies because a player IS in there, then snipe them and laugh.' Loot is randomized and cleaned out, we don't know what we are getting as anyone else does. -

No. We don't horde. But it will get to a point you will feel like you are hording... We found in the last few days 3 M107's, 2 NVG's, a Range Finder, 3 SVD's, 2 M4A3 Holos, bunch of Misc' loot. Over 30 or so barbed wire, tank traps, and various other industral parts. 10+ tents, too much canned food... several sets of ghillie and camo suits. -

I frown deeply upon server hopping. However, why would I do that when thats highly ineffective and rather easy way to get shot in the back? I much rather keep my tanktraps all over the airfield and kill server hoppers or throw them into debug forest and collect their loot when they die from doing that? Before you post I recommend reading. -

U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As it currently stands, we are informed by Day-Z staff that we cannot ban people from disconnecting during PVP or Zombie aggro. Due to the excessive amount it is exploited-- Thus we have had to remove the individuals who were banned previously for using this exploit. As it stands, Day-Z staff says, we can only ban for Cheating Via Hacks, Racism, and harassment. -

There is a spot RIGHT behind the barracks by those industral buildings I have seen a copter crash at. Ive also seen one right beside Vybor, right between the long barn and the smoke-stalks. -

If you first sign into the server after a restart, you can see it. I think within the first ten minutes if you sign in and do not log out you can see it. After you relog or become disconnected, you lose the visual. -
