losing items when switching servers
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Errdaay's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
If you log out too quickly when you log into a server and loot anything, the loot doesn't save. So in other words, if you are switching servers too quickly, you won't save your loot. I don't want to judge, but you sound like a server hopper. :I -
They are only on select servers. Newer servers do not have any Choppers. This is because Choppers are known to cause problems and be bugged. Recent beta patches have been an attempt to fix the desync problem with vehicles. Ander hinted recently that the servers that updated recently will get chopper love possibly. :3

How to farm loot. A guide to collecting what you want. (Outdated)

You can throw them to distract zombies, and if you hit a player it messes up their sound and makes the character jerk in a random direction. -

Still works in 1.7.2.3. Been doing it for the last few days. The video in the main post was done in 1.7.2.3. I think distances have changed, however... Need to find another set of Rangefinders before I can accurately give numbers again. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You guys are aware even Rocket himself said he did not care of DayZ died, or if it just died on its own or his own doing, it doesn't bother him. Not to stomp on your outrage, as this upsets me also. But I do realize this isn't even on his radar. -
I see there has been a few beta patches recently, from 95054 yesterday to now 95099. I had a few users tell me their tents disappeared in the recent Beta Patch, did anyone else have this issue or is it the normal 'Restart your Server to fix it' ordeal, or was there a tent wipe due to the heavy tent duping problem?

Anyone else missing Tents in Beta 95054+?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Never mind, it appears a simple restart fixed this problem. I just woke up with like eight PM's asking me about tents and I thought there was an issue. My bad. Cheers. -

More than welcome to come get our loot piles when we leave... We thought about setting up a trading post there... How BAD of an idea that would be. -
So can day/night cycle change or what?

Have you ever really held a flashlight and attempted to fire off a sidearm like a pistol? Its not exactly... Ideal. I think a nice solution to this is to be able to attach your military flashlight to your shirt or belt. IMO. -
You can't install a new beta than install an older verison,it will mess up your game. You can still make it run even if it says Invalid CD Key I believe, just tell it to go fuck itself and run it anyway.

U.B.C.S. Story, Ravin guides a player how to be a Bandit.
U.B.C.S. Ravin posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, its no surprise with the clan now that I am the 'bleeding heart' of the group. Up north I am rather viscous but when I respawn in I understand sometimes people are new to the game and I just don't go gun HOE on someone. I am sitting in Chenro one day near the firestation and I am waiting to be picked up by my Clan friends. I am stocked with an AKM and got some grenades. The firestation is covered in barbed wire and tanktraps and its basically our 'pick up' point if we wanna try to play rescue if we are bored. After about ten minutes of waiting I am watching near the top of the firestation tower I notice someone log in. I immediately assume this is a server hopper and unload my AKM into the windows. "Stop shooting I am friendly!" Now, a majority of the time, I never hear someone plead to not be killed. I stop firing and call over the mic. "You are a friendly, in the firestation?" There is a pause and I hear a broken up voice "Yes, I am lagging pretty bad, you nearly killed me." Feeling a bit guilty for nearly ripping a guy open with a bunch of bullets I run up to the top of the firestation and bandage and bloodbag the guy. Don't know his name, but he seems very thankful. I don't even know if he knows who I am or what my position is. Let alone the blood on my hands. After talking for a moment, we hear a few gunshots go off near the market, I poke my head out and explain to him. "You are lucky I didn't kill you, generally people just kill you in the firestation..." The guy who was running to the marketplace appearently hears us over direct chat and he turns with a M1911 and tries to shoot at us from the market into the firestation. This guy beside me who I bandaged up had a CZ and he peeks out the window and fires, hitting the guy. The guy drops over. "Did I get him?" He questions me. Peeking out of the window I tell him. "Nope, He's still moving." The guy plug another round into the person. We wait about ten minutes before running over to check the loot. "...I've never had to kill someone before... They always kill me." He explained as we come into the marketplace, killing a few zombies that chased us in. "Well... Thats generally how it goes." We approach the body he shot and I stay back, informing him. "Its your kill, your loot." The guy seems very confused at my statement, but loots an alice pack off the body and a GPS for some reason with some other goodies. I might as well be praising him as I state. "Nice shot. Now good luck." He seemed reluctant to see me go, giving him a wave I run out of the market and make a sprint for the great north. I never asked for his name and he never asked for mine. Though, it was rather fun and it was good to interact with someone who didn't exactly know how the game works and guide them to their first kill. -
U.B.C.S. Story, Ravin guides a player how to be a Bandit.
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I thought about it, but to be honest I am not like that. I know I am a bandit up north, but down south I know some people don't really get a chance and it ruins their gaming experience. I didn't want his CZ, had a GPS at camp waiting for me. -
Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.

I am all for bandit skins, mind you. -

U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am not disagreeing it about this. I completely agree. However, my problem is people instead don't want to talk about it, they want to complain about it. Instead of learning, they want to have things change or punish people. "Killing other players should get you punished." Has anyone read the front-page of the website? "Step one, Scavenge," "Step two, Kill Zombies and Bandits" "Step three, Survive." Bandit gameplay is a core part of the game. People keep saying 'Get rid of it" or "Punish them!" isn't going to happen... Its going to be tweeked, adjusted, and modified. I highly doubt (Until the stand alone client comes out whenever that is.) the bandit gameplay is going to change much in the meantime. -

Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Someone is a little upset. I explained my position not from a clan standpoint, but from a starting point also. DayZ has a deep learning curve and Rocket himself even expressed it is the Anti-Game. Survivors have just as much of an advantage as Bandits do, Why? Because who is to say you shooting someone isn't self defense. Are you REALLY going to go up to the NorthWest Airfield and NOT shoot someone you see in the barracks? Or how about that guy with a DMR ontop of Chenro just having a campfire? Seriously? It never gave you a choice, even when DayZ first came out. The gameplay was /always/ like this. What changed? Bandit Skins? PFFFTTTT. The mindset might be different because there are TONS of people playing now. But stop pretending that this never happened before and suddenly it is a problem. There are ways around it and it starts with the players. If Bandits are doing one thing, then perhaps Survivors should start adapting as well? Or they could come on the forums like you and complain instead of getting constrictive criticism, like I did. Expressing ways around the problem or ways to fight back against it. -
Be aware, I'm going to start banning.
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Don't ask me. I honestly have no idea. It took them least then five minutes to get into contact with us over it. My speculation, its srsus buznus, or they knew a Dev or who knows what. It honestly didn't matter to us because it was a sad realization for myself and Ebian. They talked to us rather calmly about it and we understood where they were coming from. We didn't drag our feet, we simply just moved on. All we can do is pass the blame. Not that we want to, but everyone is really shifting the blame. "Someone said this so we can't do this, the reason they said that is for these reasons. These reasons happen because of this mod/build." Ect, ect. Instead of just complaining about it. We just keep on trucking along. It takes a lot to get under my skin or nerves. Maybe thats why this doesn't really bother me? I don't know. I can't expect everyone to be like me. Just explaining it from a neutral standpoint or, to put it bluntly. 'It doesn't matter either way to me.' -
There are a lot of new features within the website that I absolute love, and some of them I dislike. One of them is I seem unable to disable threads in the 'My content' section. I have looked, tried, searched, and clawed at the settings for the webset and to no avail I was unable to locate a way to disable threads I had posted in showing up. Some threads I posted a little bit in, and no longer care for the debates going on and would like them to stop showing up or a way to disable them from showing up. Is this possible? Eventually it will get to the point I won't be able to know who replied on some threads I want to read or keep up with.

Taking away even more access to our servers?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Not even then. DayZ makes no money off this mod. Its free. Arma2 is what makes the money, If a bunch of people complained about DayZ, they wouldn't cave. Even Rocket himself said he'd rather his game be the death of itself and he'd be happy with that. Like spiderman, the amount of fucks people give are none. -

Hackers are taking over.Or took over?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to Jaeskern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sad day for them. I have actually never been victim to a hacking death yet. Generally when someone hacks or attempts to use hacks your screen 'jumps'. I did a bit of research into the topic and I often quickly Alt-F4 or Disconnect to avoid someone hacking to kill me with a nuke/teleporting so on. Sad to say I am having to resort to self perseverance to prevent dying to hacking. Not everyone is as quick or understands when its happening or you expect it to happen. Hell, take a look at a server I admin, US128 was hit with a lot of ships being spawned and airplanes. I wasn't on during this and I know it happens a lot and will eventually get me. But, I am not attached to loot, never have been. If anyone gets mad at dying in any sort of way in an Alpha game seems a bit silly to me... People should expect these kinds of things to happen, or someone to find your tents. ect, ect. -
