Great point and you deserve some beans for bringing that up. -
Change Axe to Secondary + Slower Zombies
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to TGH's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not sure if this is true now with the nerfs that went out a few days ago. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AunmKzSZ9-e_dGlqcXZCVEFIbnZnelVqcUNpQ3d3SlE#gid=0 -

You have to remember running through them doesn't reduce your sound. Visual yes, but sound is also a factor. -
Change Axe to Secondary + Slower Zombies
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to TGH's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can technically outrun them with how LoS works and lose them. They can't ever hit you if you run zigzag or a straight line unless you have bad FPS which causes your client to run slower.I am not sure if I agree with them running slower so long as LoS works the way it current does. Unless that is changed I suppose I can see why they might be needed to run slower. -
Change Axe to Secondary + Slower Zombies
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to TGH's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would love the Axe to be secondary, but Rocket has expressed slower zombies + more of them spawning would stress the game engine out too much and isn't possible with Arma2. Plus he doesn't feel like slower zombies give the same fear as faster ones. -
I PM'd a Dev to strengthen my point and to ask questions because its not specified, but clearly not intended to be that way with someone abusing their ability to shut down a server to lock it. Because they are doing just that when you shut it down like that, preventing people to play on it. On purpose. You cannot just shut down a server to their benefit and their benefit alone. I could have said to 'raid their camp' or 'protect against hackers' or 'because no admins were on' and yielded the same results. Server is still down BTW. @Crusader - If you are not going to read other peoples points, why read yours? That's not fair in the least bit.

Scripters, Hackers, have more control than me, an admin.
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to beans's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes it is. -
I am not sure why you said this. DayZ is a Game itself. One of which was stated to have a specific way to play by the DayZ staff for right now. They don't want it changed. So you can go 'Backlashing against the admins and doing whatever you want because you won't play the way they tell you to play the game they are designing'... You aren't just supposed to fight zombies alone. Bandits are here also and you can't avoid that as it is a core part of the game. @ Scipio - I don't understand why you said that. It is Rockets intention, you might as well tell him "Want Persistent World, Take out Loot Spawns." But he DOES want that... I understand some people don't, but it is his game and his HIVE which you all are connected too. I guess I will ask a very important question. As much as it is argued "OMG DONT TELL US HOW TO PLAY." Who are you to tell Rocket how he should develop his game...? Aren't you being a little contradictory with your statements when you tell players not to tell you what to do while you blatantly give Rocket and the Devs the middle finger? We are here to give Rocket Feedback on his design and improve on it. Not to completely eliminate a core gameplay element of DayZ and go "don't tell us how to play."

How to start a new character without losing my old one?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Making a new profile does nothing but change your skin and name. -
It appears some servers are runnign 1.67 battleye and some have 1.66. When I attempt to join a server with 1.67, it fails to update and throws up "Kicked: Battleye failed to update." I know this has something to do with my router/internet and I can't access the DNS/ISP to remove any of the current firewalls because it is not my net. Does anyone have a DL link to 1.67? The battleye webpage itself is only listed up to 1.62... Which clearly doesn't help me out here. Cheers. Resolved because I am a retard :D YAY.

Battleye 1.67 Update? (Resolved)
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Really? Arma2 should be in its lowest point right now. I don't think this is the case but it is certainly compelling to believe if this keeps acting up for me. -
I think everyone wants this option... Hackers come with the games... All games... Here is a tip. If your screen ever suddenly 'Jumps' You can quickly log out. Like you will be running and your screen will flicker and you will jump back roughly five seconds means something happened with the server, likely not good. Its always good to log out to be safe. This has saved me DOZENS of times from hackers attempting to mass teleport or mass nuke a place. If you get teleported above the air to be dropped, Disconnect before you hit the ground and stay off that server for a bit. You will be wherever they teleported you, but you won't be dead. These are just some of the ways you can avoid hackers from personally killing you. To its credit Arma2 and Battleeye have been vigilant recently in handling hackers and exploiters. With rolling number of beta patches and Battleeye doing massive client updates to combat this. Its important to keep in mind Arma2 or battleeye were never expecting DayZ to rape their engine and system THIS hard. Its like they were trying to catch a tidal wave. Not to say Battleeye is a good company, they have their flaws. At the very least they are trying. Will the hacker problem every be fixed during this Alpha? My personal thoughts? No, it won't. It won't be until DayZ goes to its standalone phase (Which some posts suggest is in late Dec...Meaning not likely until 2013.) or it goes live with Arma3. Which is also a good possibility. I do not wish to get into the topic of Alt-F4ing. As an active bandit and PVP'er... This is a very.. sensitive topic. To put it lightly I contain a large amount of rage from people who Alt-F4 to avoid combat. I would possibly break some bones in their bodies if I ever met the person who had done it in a combat fight against me. Yes, Imad. Very mad.

I would be all for them being up 24/7. Absolutely. You wanna know why I got upset a little bit? I will go ahead and give a bit of background on myself here. I am a server admin. I host serveral servers. I have been chewed out and spit on enough to know how it sucks to have fingers pointed at me for doing nothing wrong. Which you can search "US 128, US 167, US 302" if you would like to find some posts relating to what I am saying. I know what its like to get frustrated you can't do anything and want to do something more. I used to read a thread in the server logs about banning individuals who disconnected to avoid PVP was awesome and FULLY supported such actions-- Until DayZ staff stepped in and said "You can't do this because--" And listed a whole bunch of reasons why you cannot and explained what you can do to continue to report these individuals and ban them properly. Basically saying "Think first and report it to us before you ruin a players experience on DayZ." Lots of people assume, make mistakes, and ban wrong people. Hell I have, I know I have. I was upset I could no longer ban individuals on my server I KNEW I was seeing doing this stuff, Like in this Sure I got FRAPS, but there are several people in the lobby and maybe that guy is joining in and is in the lobby and not the person who went to lobby? Server logs don't show who only backs out to the lobby.I know what its like to lose everything you have worked for due to bugs, hacking, and people finding your stuff. URAL, UAZ, Tractor, Two pickup trucks, bikes, two motor bikes and a huge campsite overnight gone. A very, sad, sad day. on the topic of PVE servers. I know Rocket has expressed he would like to have PVE servers one day, (A single player too!) but with how the HIVE is setup and you can get any loot from any server and jump onto another and blast the hell out of a person who spent his whole day fighting off people and zombies for similiar loot isn't fair to person B because person A had no competition cept for zombies. DayZ is meant to be a mutliplayer game with PVP. Thats why the front page says "Hunt Bandits and Zombies." Just so you know, I fully support a PVE option and single player. Is it possible with how DayZ is setup right now? No. I would love a standalone live HIVE version that is official. There is none currently right now.

You get my beans alone from simply having a Holo avatar.

If you wanna have a discussion on what rules are good or not. I am all for it and have many, many ideas. A lot of people seem to confuse on "Me defending the rule system" Versus "How do you feel about these rules, Ravin?" Scipio hits a special cord with me because he seemed to realize that I "Understand the current rule system, but hate it." Which I do. So very, very much... But I understand WHY its there and understand WHY DayZ isn't my game... It isn't just about you, me or the guy next to me. Its about everyone. Not a single person or group of people, but everyone. Even if they are not online all of the time, they can't just take it down. They have the risk of losing everything they have like everyone else. Online or not. We all have lost something, even as bandits. Do you think we do not experience the same things you do? Take my signature for example. I fully am aware that advertising my server will gain some unwanted attention and people who want to kill us. Hack us. Bomb us. Whatever. Should I use my advertisement as an excuse to take the server down when I am not online? No. I do think they do it to benefit their clan, intentionally or not. Even if they do not mean to or intend for that to happen, doesn't mean it excuses it from happening. Side effect of their actions or not. From several posts on the forum thread indicate this is intentional and they do it to protect themselves.
-
I do indeed. But shutting down an entire server and limiting individuals gameplay? No. That is not right. It goes against many of the DayZ principles. I hate hackers as much as the next guy. But is this really trying to stop them? It does indeed seem ineffective. That is my BESTCASE situation. A bestcase possibility where I cover all my bases. Did you know if they banned someone when ghosting and only claimed they had a name, but no FRAPS proof DayZ staff WILL contact the admins on US1038 and have them unbanned because they don't want you banning people for that. It happened to me for banning people on my servers for disconnecting to avoid PVP. I don't like it in the slightest. Not one bit, but I am not here to complain or be bitter about the rules. I understand as an admin I abide by DayZ's rules, even if I don't like it.
-
See, this is a good compromise. Which is in my first post "I would not have a problem at all with this server if it was up 24/7." Sadly, they didn't do this before and took it down before to avoid 'hackers' or 'admins weren't online.'
-
One real way. I made a long post about this in another thread, I will link it here.
-
I would love to fight you. But sadly, I can't do this when you server is shut down four days out of the week with no times when its up. Then you only bring it up when you have a lot of members on to protect your camp. Preventing any real PVP. You don't really see how much of an advantage this gives you guys, do you? Your ignorance is AMAZING.
-
Because what you are doing ISN'T permitted. I know you are saying "What we are doing is good and we want to help people." Yes. We all do in our own way. Sometimes people can be dicks. But you are not a special server to just shut it down and bring it up whenever you want to. You don't seem to get this. You, out of thousands of servers, don't get to pick and choose when it comes up and down. Noone else, (assumed. They possibly do.) is allowed to do this. I have to deal with them all the time, everyday. Like for example. I had this happen to MY server !Did I 'take it down for hours at a time and bring it up when I am online?" No. That affects every player on your server who plays on it. Your server is not your personal "I do what I want to do." You use the server as a server to call your own. Beyond that, have almost no control. Do like it? No. Do I follow the rules? Yes. Big difference.
-
So you admit this server ONLY goes up to serve as a trading post and then taken down later because its a prime hacking target? Hacking effects EVERYONE. Not just one server, or this one, or that one. All of them. You do not get the luxury of shutting down or restarting your server whenever you like. Why did you just admit to yourself that you shut it down on purpose to prevent people from getting at your equipment... -Facepalm.-
-
This is also a good point. Even with hackers we don't get the luxury of restarting a server due to hackers or lost equipment. This is known to be posted by DayZ staff that you can't restart a server because you have died. Even from a hacker. All you can do is report it and try again.
-
Its not lying. You have your own clan posts saying you DO take it down when everyone is logged off. Read the frontpost of this forum my friend. The individuals who have that server have the advantage. You have no risk of being raided because you control when it goes up and down. Let me play your game for a minute. I have a camp at NWAF with some tents on a server. My clan and I have all of our vehicles there and we get fairly good loot, considering the location. With L85's and Snipers we can cover the whole airfield and noone bothers us. But people CAN kill us. We can return fire at them. Okay, after a long day of farming, Let us bring down the server to prevent potiental hackers or people from finding our equipment because we are not online to protect it. I should be able to do this with your logic, right? Maybe a hacker might show up. Funny, the other servers that guy has in his signature is an admin of three other servers. Why aren't those taken down too? They are at risk of having hackers on them. Mine are too. I possibly should shut them down until I play again later to make sure noone does anything I do not agree with.
-
You shutting the server down IS preventing me from doing this, EVEN if you don't intend for it to happen. You might have one goal you claim to have, but other posts in your threads contradiction to your posts here, including several of your clan members posts. You do not seem to grasp the concept of shutting a server down and only bringing it up at specific points is gamebreaking and giving players an unfair advantage.
