  1. They already came to thier sense and made two seperate game modes

    Barricading roads.

Doors stop bullets! Doors are cool! Also DayZ is time consuming especially if you're server hopping that's a 100 seconds a pop, factor in the fact your only playing it like it's a final product designed as a shooter an not a massively multiplayer survival horror game. So it really sounds like by launch this really won't be the game for you.
  3. This really is entirely preference at the moment neither mode has anything different besides 3pp which isn't that much of an advantage ya know indoors or at a distance. The main gripe I see is peeking over walls or around corners. So if some one happens by in kill range I suppose that's an advantage outside. Other than that it doesn't help. I think the need to either implement an actual hardcore (which I assume is the plan) or just call "hardcore" first person mode.

    Make server restart warning compulsory

I think they should for sure start including the "restarts every x hours starting from xgmt" that would solve the basic issue. Should warn of a forced restart and standard restart 5,10,15 minutes out. I also think the Devs should hurry up an fix loot spawns because then it really won't be an issue. Yes I know they are working on it but it's literally the only reason servers are restarting atm and I don't see any reason restarts will continue after the fix. Voted yes though for now

PLEASE make the pig safe is unicorn of dayz

You are sort of right. Boar themselves are used in a variety of high quality items are prized for their meat, hair and other items. They are however 100% capable of breeding with your average everyday pig. Which was an unfortunate oversight. While any standard pig may wander off into the woods and become feral which is bad enough they hybrids are the problem in the US and other areas where they lack a natural predator. Because of that they over populate and must be removed. It wasn't about not caring what they would do to other habitats it was not knowing the effect caused by inbreeding. Obviously the domestic pig has been farmed for years, the wild boar also hunted for centuries. I assume that between natural predators and a generally larger European habitat similar issues didn't happen in it's primary country. Were predators more prepared to encounter Boar and Feral pig/boar hybrids it wouldn't be an issue. The largest problem in the states isn't the boar rather the Hybrid.
  7. That is in fact because with the exception of camera options (3pp v no 3pp) they currently are the exact same. The "balance" that the other person spoke of is non-existent. Because all players on core fiction the same as the other and can all use the aforementioned 3rd person perspective to get a view over a wall or around a corner. And in hardcore you have to lean around a corner to see around a corner. Other than that same settings across the board at the moment
  8. I agree but at the same time all current magazines are proprietary in the sense of gameplay. So that isn't much of an issue all around so think that particular gun isn't a good idea was just citing that as an example. To further explain my point though none of the mags in the game this far are interchangeable if a similar platform weapon is added that can accept a magazine from say the M4 or AK that makes sense but so far it seems like they are limiting that

DayZ Zombies, an attempt to diagnose the zed condition

To a degree yes, IMO also with no time frame to refer to it's hard to determine the cause of the "decay" they all seem to suffer from other than it lets you know they are zeds
  10. I play a normal server and don't use 3pp for any combat situation or in any area I might encounter a player. Also battlefield utilizes 3rd person in vehicles on "core" servers. At least one edition of call of duty had a 3rd person game mode. So the truth of the matter really is this from a programming perspective. Most other games do not render a player model for the player. I assume when you said counter strike you meant Source or GO in which case I don't know. 1.6 on the other hand rendered hands/arms and a gun on your screen allowing more space/processing for the other character models on screen. Also they are fully marketed as first person games. Quiet a few other first person shooters have incorporated third person cameras for certain situations rainbow 6 Vegas did so when taking cover it snapped to first person when you did anything but blind fire. Back to your point though Battlefield disables third person vehicle Cameras for Hardcore servers. Currently the only thing about hardcore servers on SA is the fact third person is disabled. See my previous post about "hardcore" modes in most other games. Is there a slight tactical advantage to it? Yes, do I use lean instead of 3pp yes. The third person camera is clunky at the moment. The current end game isn't survival either, it's gear up, hit up a high traffic area kill or be killed, wash rinse repeat as necessary. As the focus shifts to survival over kill everything play styles will shift with it. When the cameras are tweaked play styles will change. When hardcore servers are a bit more "hardcore" more people will play until then it's simply a matter of the ability to have 3rd person or not
  11. Granted an I was using that as an example rather than the standard. Few points on that not though. The Ruger Mini14 is a more easily acquired "civilian" model (see also the mini 6.8 and mini 30) Now as far as the M14 and the M14 EBR the original M14 saw most of it's field service in Vietnam where most were locked into semi-automatic as the full auto function was nearly uncontrollable amongst other issues with the rifle, As far as I know the EBR is semi automatic only. As far as weight compared to the m4 yeah it's heavy. The m4 weighs just over 6lbs empty and almost 8 lbs loaded with a 30rnd box magazine. The m16 is almost 9lbs loaded. The M14 roughly 10lbs the EBR almost 12lbs or roughly the same as the AK with a steel magazine. So it's not especially heavy. And yes there are far better DMRs out there I just have that personal preference. Like I said Id be fine with just about any DMR because they give you versatility you don't see in many other firearms atm. They are semi automatic, don't normally exchange range for speed, better designed for long range than a full auto and not as slow as a bolt action.

    Server hopping

Limiting restarts and restarts in general are not the problem loot spawns are the problem, fix loot spawns solve the problem. Once loot actually respawns the only reason to leave a server is to play with buddies or just find server with more/fewer players

    Horses, the almost perfect "vehicle"

    1. Nothing is hard to find in Chernerus if the Devs say it's not because it's a fictional country not confined by any real world problems the Devs don't want it to be2. Yes, yes they are but again Dev=God here, also we have no evidence that Zeds go after livestock infact the presence of livestock in Chernerus implies they don't (have yet to see a Zed chasing a cow across the landscape) 3. No more than a car, the difference is you can't lock a horse, they should be implemented as improvised vehicles having craftable saddle bags is fine just don't become anymore attached to that gear than you do the gear in your back pack 4. Forgive me for simplifying but it's an oversized deer as far as animation and coding go. The only difference is adding a seat/attachable gear (which is fairly simple) Now to the OP and everyone else let me clarify my point on improvised vehicle. Horses should be wild, no domestic horses should be found, this negates the difficulties you have with domestic horses such as being spooked by a flock of birds. We don't need saddles and all that mumbo jumbo (although I wouldn't be butthurt if it got added) they could add a improvised saddle bag option. But as far as they are concerned it's a wild animal find one, catch it, mount it. Leave it alone for a couple minuets and it wanders about where it pleases. Another player comes by while you're looting a house and they can swipe it. No different than I imagine a bicycle will be. We can (I) assume that cars will need keys which means if I exit the car I can lock it. You'll have to kill me to get the key to steal my car. Horses don't have doors and therefore can't be locked. Adding a bunch of crap you need to do to "train" a horse almost in my opinion downgrades them to big running meals. Having them automatically eat and drink and roam if not mounted should be the norm. And the only real issue I see is that it's only yours as long as you're on it. This will spawn the "you meanie head you stole my horse" complaints. I also fear that it will take up a livestock spawn (ie: each horse is one less cow/boar/deer that could spawn.) and limit hunting options. I like the idea over all I just see it being less useful than a bicycle other than the fact you an eat it

    Hand Spade

It would actually be nicer if digging for worms didn't require a tool at all, I'm all for your idea but in real life you can use your hand to dig up enough of a hole to find worms in, especially after a good rain when most worms are closer to the surface anyway
  15. Lithium1056

    Barricading roads.

Player buildings are confirmed in the first place everyone agrees you shouldn't be allowed to "wall-in" public play space (ie: Elekto or NWAF) I imagine construction will take up 12-15 slots per item (MP5K only takes 12 slots btw) and it will require some hunting to find the components per item(wood, nails etc) it's not meant to be easy or quick (aside from say boarding up a farm house) also it's a game if a 20 foot section of wall only takes up 20 slots it doesn't matter the only thing I care about in terms of player barricades is that with the right tools I can tear it down and that it doesn't give some ass the ability to password his server for 12 hours an claim Elekto as his "house" a building in Elektro sure but not whole cities
  16. The problem there is with the game as is it's not just a "skin" they'd have to physically code an M14 EBR platform as none of the "current" or "confirmed" firearms have a similar platform with the closest being the SKS with the exception of it firing the 7.62x39 an the M14 firing the 7.62x51 NATO which means they would still have to recode not just real in or we could look forward to a bunch more "but that's not how it works in real life!" Posts. Personally I'd like to see a couple more marksmen rifles vs snipers and assault rifles. I don't have the same arguments as a lot of people see to have. (Ie: you wouldn't find that in Russia or no service branch uses that) so as long as they don't go over board with the amount of weapons I don't care what weapons they include remember this is a fictional former soviet state. For all we know Chernerus was a country rife with secret weapons development factories in the height of the Cold War or even post succession from the Soviet Union they built these factories and produced all kinds of freaking guns. Fun takes front chair to realism as much as people loathe to admit it. Here is what we know about Chernerus it's based on portions of the real life Czech Republic, it's a costal country, the US and UN were involved in it's last conflict prior to Zday because it's in the ArmAverse past that what is truth in Chernerus is whatever the DEVs decide because well that how it works. I would however object to light sabers and laser guns. Except maybe the Moonraker laser cause Jame Bond! (No really I'd still object to that) So arguments that weapon X only sees distribution only applies as long as the dev teams says it doesn't see distribution in Chernerus and that's ok cause Chernerus is the perfect country, they have Zero obligations to add this landmark or that city. It's as big or small as they want it to be and has or doesn't have what they say it doesn't have or does have! It is the perfect platform for a game! But it doesn't have to be a good or bad thing for something you wouldn't normally find in that region to be there or something you normally would find to not be there. If you treat it like the real world you are the one ruining your immersion not the community or the developer because you've already built it up to something it's not. It's design relies on regional construction to make you feel like it's in Russia that's it. I totally believe it's Russia when I look at it cause it looks like Russia. Past that it just needs to make me feel like I'm surviving weather I do that with an SKS or a Sub-2000 doesn't matter weather it's a AR-15 or a M14 as long as it handles like I expect the weapon to handle that's what matters. Not that I'd never find it there it's the freaking zombie apocalypse

    Barricading roads.

Yes and no! Yes it would prevent people from driving over it but a tank trap isn't a barricade or a roadblock, think the Battle of Normandy from well any game or movie that includes it, just a tank trap won't stop a person or zed from walking around it, he's talking more like a chest high wall or larger that would stop entry into an area unless you could tear it down, which I am 100% against in pre established towns (read assholes will barricade and camp the prime loot spawns) barricading a house or room in a large building maybe but not so much for things like fire stations police stations etc. Clearing and barricading say Elektro as an example should be a no, some fringe town or a player built base in te wilderness is fine

    Scripted sequences?

Searched even flipped a few pages deep and didn't see anything about this. And this is really more of a question than a suggestion. I've seen in some videos of the mod scripted sequences with non-zed AI that will attack players and such. But are there any plans for this in the SA? I think it would be kind of fun for a group of 5-7 soldiers to spawn randomly on the map. Could be a way to make some of the more decent loo teen rarer because it only spawns on this group instead of in the bases and what not. They wouldn't have to be outright hostile towards players just return fire if fired upon or something? But yeah that's my question
  19. Lithium1056

    Scripted sequences?

I was referring specifically to the situation, not what I make my character. What I make my character is the entire point of role play. My point there was that we don't "spawn" as anything. Also that we won't ever spawn as a tactical force member geared to the nines that would ruin the game. I get that as soon as "I feel the grassy plains of Chernerus between my toes" I can be whatever I want, I also get how little role playing effects anyone by myself at the point because 8 out of 10 people I encounter at the moment will shoot first and ask questions later (the forums are full of complaints about that) and at the moment I'm ok with that, just like I've stated that there are several active responses to my OP already established in game and that it all really doesn't matter because my question was answered. The second question of "how that breaks the premise" has also be answered.
  20. More of a question here(since I play almost exclusively in first person) are you saying that "Hardcore" servers use a different hive? I was under the impression it used the same character? If so I think I might find a hardcore server for the express purpose of having a character I can play when my friends aren't playing

PLEASE make the pig safe is unicorn of dayz

If you read my original response you'll find the only way this practice relates to the penile region is retaining it. Boar are nasty little buggers especially in groups
  22. Eh? I could go either way with that, I can see where it's handy honestly running through open terrain I find more visually pleasing in third person because I can see more of the country side, with the number pad look around option I find in open terrain that my back pack obscures my back left/right so rather than stop and turn it helps me see if I passed the landmark I was looking for. But as a First person player it makes melee combat harder for me because I misjudge distance between tip of weapon and Zed I never use third person to fire guns with and I honestly do use it for "peeking" because Frame per second drop is bad enough in cities without having to render my character model. (See my previous response about be elated I can lean lol) so over all it neither adds to nor hinders my immersion as it's only a visually pleasing view for me when I'm in "hold w until point B is reached" mode, if the added the ability to say pull out your compass in third person and have it appear in a mini-map esque position on my HUD I might be able to see an advantage but otherwise it doesn't do all that much for me
  23. In some cases yes in other cases such as Bethesda it took them three games to get it right! Third person in Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion might as well have been called swing and pray mode, in Fallout 3 it was clunky the camera(much like in SA right now) made walking in doors feel like you'd rather play resident evil 1 on the playstation and by the time we got New Vegas only mad in door walking feel right Skyrim was a crowning achievement IMHO for third person, I couldn't tell you if is just gotten used to it or if they found the right angle to give you the depth perception needed to land strikes from the OTS view but it actually works (not that I play 3pp anymore on Skyrim than I do DayZ old habits die hard I guess?) I haven't played a whole lot of other third person melee games so I may have a limited view (no pun intended) on the matter
  24. With the current difference only being POV that's a debatable point having spent years playing mainly FPS game I can have a casual go anytime I want I treat it just like any other First Person game. I play mostly in first person because of how terrible the third person camera is. See my original response for greater detail of what I envision when I think "hardcore" and how I feel it's the industry norm for "hardcore" mode. At the moment there is no major difference besides the camera view. I also think as development moves forwards "hardcore" will see a massive overhaul giving it a reason to be called such
  25. While there is a group using the Oracle head get to produce a real life Over the Shoulder perspective (essentially two cameras mounted on a pole in a backpack fed of the oracle head gear producing a third person perspective) the difference between "hardcore" and "core" DayZ is a perspective. Honestly with the way combat is set up third person in most multi-perspective games is "harder" than first person. It gives you less depth perception for melee and (short of the Long Rang Scopes also haven't intentionally tried to ADS from 3pp so only know how it effects aiming with an LRS cause I've often accidentally right clicked while sprinting 3pp and auto scope if I stop) has no ADS. The point here is that "Hardcore" should feel, well harder! Up until we have options that say stop loot spawns, limit "fresh" food spawns and medical supplies, as well as increase food/water need. There is a limited difference in these modes. I don't think he was trying to imply obe/3pp was more realistic just that until something makes hardcore, hardcore it's not really a challenge. I'd also like to point out that lean is highly underused because of 3pp having been absent from PC gaming for a number of years Id forgotten how freaking awesome it is to be able to lean around a corner before blindly blundering around it or using highly ineffective methods like "slicing the Pie" (aiming past the corner and sidestepping around it effectively giving you a small view of each area before fully exposing yourself, great for clearing corners in real life not so great in video games)
