I feel like this has probably been asked before but I didn't see it browsing the other pages. Are there any plans to render signs in english? I'm little more than looking at signs at the moment, and trying to use my phone to find translations, I have a rough idea based on multiple lives trying to run to it from spawn, which sign indicates Electro and from there I know to trek east to Cherno but it would hella help to just have a sign in english or signs in english to indicate where I am and to help me and friends meet up. I'm sure as time goes on (all of us been playing around 24hrs now) we will simply just know what the signs mean or at least be able to better navigate, but at the moment I'm risking death everytime I find a road sign and try to translate it to indicate my direction -_-

I also initially pondered if this game (after learning that this is just Chernerus +) would get a new map or location change now that it's a fully supported release? I thought hey for a total conversion I understand, for a Mil-sim I understand, that region has Been a semi-constant bed of conflict since the fall of the Soviet Union. But at first even after watching Frankie's videos I was skeptical about it as a local for a post apocalyptic survival game, granted in used to Fallout which has fairly large maps but populates them well. Having spent a considerable amount of time with the game now. I love it, I love the fact I've had to step out of my comfort zone on a role playing level an not only learn new mechanics but also partially learn a new alphabet. I do need to double check the ingame maps to see if they include the Cyrillic spelling as well I know they have the more western spellings for sure. But for now I look forward to each new patch as we press forward towards final release.

As far as this post which I made briefly after beginning gameplay I agreed that it made since with the survival simulation part of the game. As far as the base map goes, like many Total Conversion Mods, Dean Hall simply used the Arma 2 map had I played Arma 2 this would probably all be second nature already and I'd never have made this post. In which I later corrected myself because I had originally forgotten to say that I meant as a localization option. Further more, please read previous posts before just making a statement I've already gotten use to the map now that I've had time to actually explore it with out getting killed 2 minutes after spawning. As with any game that begins life a a Total Conversion Mod the map doesn't change much at it's base, I never played ARMA 2 and had I Would likely had never bothered with this post because I'd already be familiar with the landscape. But also in theory when BI picked it up or even when it was just Dean "Rocket" Hall working on it, the landscape is generic enough that this could literally take place anywhere in the world. Further expansion of the map to include an Arctic region and a desert region would further create a generic country state. Slight alteration of some of the architecture and we have an even more generic countryside that could be smack dab in the middle of everywhere. From what I've seen Rocket is a pretty good programmer but the base code often limits Modders to what can be re-written and replaced before causing a total meltdown of the program.

Step 4 is a 50/50 crap shoot, once you figure out what buildings in current stable actually possess loot of value, closed doors are your friend, open doors mean screw that building and move on. First time I logged on I closed entries behind me cause I thought a closed door would stop a zombie, 10 hours in all a closed door does is invite bandits to come looking for loot. Might just be my opinion but I've had more people run right past a building I'm in cause they see a bunch of open doors and assume me and the loot are long gone

While you don't it's very unclear without any sort of story to drive the game (which I very honestly hope they add) why you'd be in the middle of nowhere! With nothing! I mean if you only ever spawned on the coast and the excuse was you'd washed up from a plane crash or ship wreck yeah, but spawning in the middle of the world with a flashlight and a battery? It's just a pet peeve I guess. Like fully loaded magazines laying around and no where near a working gun! It's the kind of logic I call "video game logic" that's counter productive to immersion because in a real life situation you'd never be "caught with your pants down" without an extremely good catalyst as to why. However it's pretty common place in a video game

Machine "pistol" model 5-k

Is there a place I should be looking that I'm not? I've stumbled across a AK mag and a MP5 mag (neither gun to be found of course), but I've jut about given up on the 1911 I found cause it's pointless chambering one round at a time. I realize this is a survival game, I just don't understand the logic that when the apocalypse happens people loaded up a bunch of magazines and clips(which remind me I like the mossin but have found like 5 rounds of that type of 7.62 ever) and then were just like man better scatter these seperatly from the guns in case the zombies get smart? I'd honestly rather find a gun with an empty mag that a full mag for a gun I'll probably never find.
-
I stumbled across a barracks earlier no mags, are they scattered all over or is there a general area I'd find the tents and barracks?

I was doing so good til I logged in today. Spawned turned around fell three feet, broken leg everything in pants ruined......including compass lol
-
I like you pilgrim lol. I just wish I could find more non-pvp players. I was excited today to be on a server that was highly populated and not see a soul. Granted I was very careful to listen to my surroundings as I almost always play with head phones on so I have a better idea which direction sound is coming from. But my experience wasn't ruined at all by not seeing anyone even the navigation mishap(thought I was headed northwest when I was actually headed south east) made for a pleasant day, hunted my first boar, discovered what I thought had been matches to light a fire with was .22 ammo lol. A good die to survive indeed
-
What mystic said, no but really had this happen today to me except I wasn't dead and hadn't died, I simply switched servers cause I found out a friend of mine has a decent server. Lost some mediocre gear but was spawned "naked" near some pretty nifty gear. So technically I won. I assumed it was something to do with the server but it would seem it's not
-
I think my biggest issue pilgrim is that the in game maps seem to be written more in "western" that the road signs. Having not died every time I turn left today I've become more comfortable with the layout of the world and relied less on road signs and more on memory of spawn to point A (generally being the outskirts of Elektro since 9-10 lives I've spawned on the beach) then navigating from there to areas I know to be less populated. Also I understand this is an alpha and I have to bear with the oddities for the moment as I swear I've ran past a sign only to run past the same sign again further down the road? But I don't pay that much attention so I might be wrong. And again this post has helped a lot because I now know I can connect in game maps, I know now there is a book in game to help me learn the language etc. Yes I admit I'm spoiled because I'm used to localization. But the more time I spend in game the more I come to enjoy it because of te lack of localization the role player in me gets more mental exercise because it's like I'm actually trapped on a exotic Island and have to adapt! So yay go me for expanding my horizons

So side question (unless a reset occurs) if I place an item on the ground it stays there until picked up or reset? I know there is (supposedly) a 10min limit on your corpse but I guess I assumed dropped items work the same way

So after running around all day and finding decent loot (good pants, jacket, bag, tac-vest, magnum and a SKS) I'm like I think I'll run up to that airfield I keep hearing about. so I run through the wood for hours thinking to myself Suns on my right it's about mid-morning clearly that's the east! and then I see a really familiar looking fire station, oh snap a compass............ GTF outa here I'm in Elektro! Do they plan on fixing the sun any time soon? I'm not super mad the server I'm on spawned me way north it would seem so I'm ok with that. But yeah at least I found a compass
-
Server claimed always day! Sun never moved was alway in a 10-11 am position in the sky I'll look at the server again it may be locked in a mid afternoon position. And if so my bad. But every other server I've played that's not time locked and actually has a cycle I've navigated to electro from the new spawn on the cost following the sun as a navigation point. I've seen a few other posts saying the sun is off (after this event) again it may be that the sun is in an early evening position and I screwed up here. But now I have a compass(until I die) so no more mistakes lol
-
Deaths like that happen and it sucks. As far as bugs carried from the mod! Yeah this is the alpha mod guys not eery total conversion can be counter strike. But it's getting there it's already leaps and bound better than the day one stories I read. Sure it's not what it could be but I like it! Also if you're not trying to make the community better, why are you here?
-
I've pretty much figured it out lol as long as I can stumble on Elektro. The sun needs fixing though. I'm a confident outdoorsman irl (or at least I thought I was til the sun issue!) I was just curious about localization
-
Awesome I'll have to remember that if I get corresponding maps

My apologies I was unaware that was a Law thing. I just always assumed it was a respect thing. Wasn't trying to offend anyone. I don't use online maps really, and I have not seen a Russian Language guide in game but at least i know to look out for it now. I'm also hoping there is a Full map findable in game? trying to swap maps when I'm in between locations gets old because of the loads. Is there a way to tape maps together?
-
Don't take it as an insult considering I'm Irish, and that would indeed put a damper on thing if it's only for android, though I might have an old android laying around. My question was more about localization than anything it's not unusual for developers to use this method, for example many WWII shooters in Germany are skinned with iron crosses rather than swastikas. And yes I realize that the over all game is attempting to mimic a real survival scenario in which I'd be jacked in a real life scenario should I wash up on a Russian island Id have to find a translation guide etcetera. But I shall look for said apps. Also a point I should have made earlier is that on the in-game maps they seem to use a different alphabet for locations. Mind you I've yet to find a map that was for my area ie: NW area map I foun in Elektro so I could e wrong there
-
I'm aware of alt tab but in most cases it's not really an option, with Kos people all around and zombies, and I'm open to learning the alphabet I was just curious, and it's not like putting Spanish translations it just seems that for English based servers it would be handy. As far as the landscape goes it's fairly generic country side. Again I'm sure at some point like I said it will become as easy as looking at them and roughly knowing where I am. Online maps only help a little bit. The in game maps have helped because like I said I knew when I found Elektro and knew roughly which direction cherno was. So I'm coming around. Little by little, it just makes navigation for new players difficult if they don't read cyillic

Ok so I am about 12 hours deep in game play now (which I am sure many of you know means about spawn 10) I am an Avid role player and fed up with jumping into random servers and trapesing about for an hour trying to scavange something useful only to get shot in the back of the head because someone didn't even bother to warn me they were near or anything. I want to know if anyone knows a good RP server I can join where I can hopefully make my way through some game play actually being afraid of Zombies, I've only been killed once by Zombies, other wise I run off a bit turn and come at them head on. I'd like to stop limiting myself to nearly empty servers as I don't really have anyone that plays this on my FL. I had hoped to have a more Frankie experience where players at least take aim and warn me they are going to shoot me not dump a round in my head while I splint my leg. When I find guns I rarely have a surplus of ammo, and I almost never run about with them out. I attempt to carry decent items around to aid myself and others. But it's always "Oh look a player! Better shoot him in the face, cause F*** you that's why!" so any decent suggestions would be nice as far as finding a decent RP server!

That sounds great love however I'm in standalone and quickly wishing I'd opted for mod

It's hard to believe that there aren't more, yes I know we are still in alpha, but gleebus guys. I treat this game as the closest I ever get to a decent Fallout mmo. My Steam is Lithium_ten56 if any one is open to RPing on low pop servers. But I'm still amazed at how shady the online populace is. Earlier I was bandaging a wound in a police station when a guy who I assume had been upstairs comes up behind me and shoots me in the back of the head. I realize that it's hard to find friendly people but I am one. I try to keep provisions I find in order to aid people. First aid kits etc. I tend to run around with a melee weapon out because zombie spawns are so sketchy but I don't attack players I had a new guy spawn up yesterday and didn't bother him I said hi he didn't respond so I assumed he was afk and moved on. Idk guess I'm just old school
