Poor performance on good PC (Heskey)
ChainReactor replied to jrhesketh@gmail.com's topic in Troubleshooting
Because the game does not use mutithreading yet. Theres no need to tell the game how many threads to use. It's as useless as setting a -maxMem parameter higher than 4GB since DayZ is a 32 bit application. Most launch parameters only cause trouble on startup. -
Intel outruns AMD at this time in development because Intel actively stepped towards the devs and helped with integrating their architecture into the game at a very early stage in development. Also most Intel processors have a better single core performance compared to AMD, which is what the game needs right now.

Banning for inappropriate behaviour...
ChainReactor replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
The game is rated "M" / "P18" in europe. The first step would be to enforce this rating. DayZ without underaged kids = 50% less ranting, swearing, racism or childish behaviour in general. -
No solution, sorry, but make sure to follow the steps in the pinned topic how to report client crashes so the devs can have a look at it. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/186540-my-dayz-crashed-what-do-i-do/

Go to C:\Users\YOU\documents\DayZ open your DayZ.cfg replace the content with the one below: Save and exit. Should be fine now.

It's not a driver problem. All you have to do is to set your menu to the correct resolution in the configure menu. I don't really get why people have a problem with that.

There are hotfixes for important stuff. They will certainly not take the public hive offline like on wednesdays to fix a ( example from the last couple of days here on the forum ) AK handguard flipped upside down. Also, we are actually not in the bugfix-phase in development. Alpha does indeed mean feature adding, and the Devs keep the game at an awesomly playable level on the stable branch. EDIT: From experience, my guess is that your idea of "many little bugs that hey could fix with a small hotfix" is a bit off of reality.

How/Where can i get a private 2 slot DayZ server?
ChainReactor replied to helioshds's topic in General Discussion
Smash just told you that's the minimum you can rent though, so it's not that much about what you want but rather what they offer. -
Found out why suppressors might not work perfectly.
ChainReactor replied to rybec's topic in General Discussion
Maybe because it's a tiny, graphical bug with no impact on gameplay at all. It just occoured in 0,52, I'm sure it will be fixed in the next version, but a hotfix for this? Especially during holidays? Oh come on.... And that is why we should avoid silly comparsions, as they 99% don't apply to software development, no matter how hard we try... ;) -
Hurry up? A renderer is not done in 3 months. It is a pretty big engine module. DayZ still looks and runs as it does because we are still not on the renderer that is supposed to be in the finished game, so we can't expect any optimizations on that system as this would be a waste. Also, VBS is done by Bohemia Interactive Simulations, which is a different studio than Bohemia Interactive. They do not share tech at all.

You would think for a time in development where game functionality and underlying tech is the main focus, minor graphical bugs like this are not a priority. They happen, but they certainly do not require a hotfix. I would say that's logical. -
Don't mix your problems though, that doesn't help much. There is no experimental branch right now so your only problem at the moment is "0.52 stable launches from exe but not through steam". I start to believe that this is a steam issue rather than a dayz issue. No idea right now, will post here when i find something.

Hm, does it work when you add the launch parameter -window ?

The hotbar seems to be much more responsive when you open your inventory first. It took me some time to get used to it, but now it works quite well for me. Eating human meat causes violent twitching, which is increasing in severity over time. No way to heal it yet, it will stay like this until you die. If you're freezing you'll have a constant shaking rather than random twitches.

As it should be. Get out of the office, man! :)
-
That's actually quite logical. When you look at the city, objects get rendered, items and item conditions get synchronized, player and AI positions get updated when near etc - thats all simulation stuff run by the cpu. When you look at the ocean, you have a dynamic texture, light and shadow. No objects, no items, no players. Mostly GPU work.

As I said, you don't fix or improve stuff you are about to replace anyway. Eugen explained it pretty good once on reddit:
-
It's neither a problem nor is it broken. Also DayZ has no horrible optimization. It is not optimized at all, as this is usually the last big step in development. We are currently playing on the old renderer. A new one is in development for many months already ( because developing such big engine modules takes so much time ). Optimizing the old one that you will replace anyway would be a waste of money and devtime. So it's just a matter of patience. I don't say that they will implement the new renderer and suddendly, everone has steady 40 FPS everywhere. But we can atually expect improvements in this area once the system is implemented because this will be the system meant to be in the finished game.

I think i looked very carefully through all gamefiles that are known to contain crafting recipies, but no torch found at all.

Have good graphics card.. not getting good fps
ChainReactor replied to joshhhh0's topic in Troubleshooting
The engine isn't using much of the graphics card yet, so an upgrade there won't notably boost his FPS. He is however using the "S" version of the i5-4440, which is the energy saving version. The "normal" 4440 has 3.1GHz ( I'm using one myself along with a GTX750Ti and i'm fine with my frames ), so the others are right, Currently, the CPU is the bottleneck. But, I would not advise the OP to optimize his setup solely for DayZ. Optimizing your computer to run an unoptimized game better is money thrown out of the window as things will change over time. EDIT: SaveMeJebus gave a good tip here. If you have a rather weak CPU, try to set clouds and shadows to high. Some players increased their FPS by doing so because a higher setting will push the rendering to the GPU. -
Remove it and try again.

Any launch parameters Set in steam?

There is no experimental right now as both branches are on the Same Version.

Post Return Observations - 9 hours played after 6 months away
ChainReactor replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
1 and 3 are actually connected to each others. The server performance isn't there yet to increase the player cap. More players = more poop. Zombies are still the old system ( the new AI and animation system is in internal testing now ). If you have a hard time killing them ( or them turning invisible, or hit you from a big distance ... ) this is again tied to server performance. And the art team that creates guns and items is not working on the engine, and thus does not influence the development of gameplay mechanics. I should get a dollar everytime i explain that. What you want is actually what the dev's want, too. The thing that many players get wrong however is to think that this is either an easy thing to do or can be achieved in a short ammount of time like 2 or 3 months. Especially server performance is an ongoing WIP that will be on it's limit as long as the game is in alpha development.
