Unable to play, game will not start

I'm just guessing, but to me it seems that there is a problem with DirectX. I think DayZ needs DirectX9.0c? I would try to reinstall that, this link might be helpful http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/have-directx-11-wont-play-games-says-i-need/300f3c23-d2cb-4750-9566-aad125857c8c But again, I'm just guessing.

Any option to not lose everything every few minutes?

First and foremost, DayZ isn't a game for everyone, so it's totally okay when you finally realise that you can't get much fun out of it. It's no problem, just move on to something else. You're not forced to have fun with this game. One mentioned here in the thread that it's not about having things, but rather about getting things. It's not only your character that makes progress, it's also you, the player. With every new character, you have new goals, new experiences, new stuff you want to try out. Do you have a certain goal or a certain mindset while gearing up or do you only want to have "all the good stuff?" DayZ is a sandbox game. There is no storyline, no plot you follow, especially not in Alpha. Many people choose the easy mindset of "spawn - gear up - pvp" but thats not much fun (imo), DayZ sucks as a PVP game - i mean, theres not even a reward system for killing people. The game doesnt give you a goal to reach. It's up to you to do this. And the way to this goal is the most fun, because unexpected stuff happens almost everytime. When you spawn fresh, surviving thirst, hunger and zombies are the biggest issues. Once you managed this basic stuff, use your imagination. Chernarus is open to you. Your character is what you make out of him. And he will die. Thats for sure.

How the end game should look.

How about a one out of three chance that you spawn as zombie ? No food, only players. No weapons, only armor, physical advantages over human players like strenght and speed. Would be a totally new game in the game. Just got the idea because some posts sound as they would like to have PVP but only with scripted AI. Like "Zombies should be the No.1 threat, but they never will when they are predictable unlike human players are. I know this will never make it into the game, but it sounds so nice. There would be even zombie clans ! And friendly zombies lol. This idea somehow got powered by Trouble in Terrorist Town. There need to be traitors among the innocent. :P

Somone already got 0.49 version ?

Imo, 0.49 seems to be a more major update, so i expect it to hit Exp first. So no sudden stable wipe for now. You will see it when they update the experimental branch, and i dont believe the update of the stable branch will be as fast as 0.48 was ( was it even a day? ), so give it one more week once 0.49 goes experimental. Also, "0.49 by the end of August" was a goal, not an ETA, so it's not written in stone. They will release the update when its ready for public, not sooner nor later. Furthermore, i have to agree with what some guys wrote here. They announced a stable wipe once they solved the duping shit. Not with 0.49. If the update doesnt do the job, there wont be a wipe. And again, i don't expect a wipe to happen suddendly and unannounced. At least not on stable. Lol at people stopping playing until the wipe. How was the #1 rule? "Don't get attached to your gear". So people go like "Uh i wont touch my perfect char anymore because he will get wiped anyway. He will die as he deserves. Force majeure." I don't get the point in stopping playing now because it could be over in just a blink of an eye because ... well ... that can happen everytime you log on. Zombies, players, ladders, wipe ... whats the difference?

A few questions about survival - SA .48 Stable

Wobo tested this out. A very fun series to watch. I loved the "obnoxious twat" episode. :) Beans to Aggathor.

How the end game should look.

Re-read Kronons post, because he is entirely right. Yeah, hordes of zombies would be a real threat and should be a vital part of the finished game. Right now however, the Z's have issues. You do want hordes of zombies, but you dont want hordes of bugged zombies. And as one of the dev's stated on reddit, "fixing the zombies" is not a single issue. It's about navmesh, collision, animation, AI sensors that are all worked on simultaneously, and all of these issues is nothing you fix / fully develop in one patch, it's ongoing work. So yeah, before you talk about the endgame, you should wait for the end of game-development. Example given: Nice imagination. I really want that in the final game. But adding it right now would lead to hoards and hoards of zombies clipping through walls and doors and punch you to death across two floors before you even start to think about an escape route. You want that? No. Give the devs time to develop the mechanics for this to happen the right way.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

Its been said so many times, yet it seems to be hard to get for some people. You don't bugfix the prototype before all features are implemented. Is this honestly so hard to get? In Alpha, they will add all the content they like to the game. Once this is been done they will start bugfixing, because every hotfix on the fly will possibly cause problems with other content. You don't fix stuff you're about to break anyway sometime soon. This is early access alpha. You did not pay to play a game, you did pay to have a first live-look on what they are developing, and you are asked to help with that.
  9. I think you misunderstood my point, since your reply has actually nothing to do with what i said. Let me clarify: I think they use mapdesign and spawnpoints to get us where they want us to be. When they added Novo and its surroundings, they moved the spawns to the northeast and made a major loot location in that area ( NEAF ) way less interesting. So they made us populate Novo and give feedback to this sector of the map they were working on at that time. I think the same will happen to the northeast now. When they put the Balota camp the NW corner of the map, they give us a reason to populate this sector. If they dont move the spawns further west as well, then i think they will not add any bigger city in that area and make it more a transit zone to other places of the map, hence giving us the Camp as a reason to go through the part of the map they will work on next.
  10. I dont think gearing up to fast is the issue, I think players moving across the map to gear up is the issue. My bets on the new location is on the north-western corner too because of a simple reason: They will add new cities / locations there since the north east is somehow completely implemented and tested now. Now they wanna give us a reason to move further west to test the Area. I think this is the same reason why they nerfed the NEAF. Simply because they wanted to shift the focus in the northeast from a military highloot area to the newly implemented cities and towns. If they put the Balota Military Base there now as some kind of "bait", a reason for us to go there, i think they do not want to put major cities in this corner of the map but rather villages and towns. The camp will be our reason to go there anyway.

    Have you experienced this bug?

Exactly, you clipped through the floor server-side. When this happens, it's not the best idea to go back there and try to get up again on the same server. It's very likely to happen again then.
  12. ChainReactor

So IS persistance actually in game?

That depends. There is a bit of confusion going on between item persistence ( = items dropped will stay on the server but will degrade over time, eventually making place for new items AKA loot respawn ) and persistant storage ( you can throw stuff inside your tent and it will be save ). I have yet to figure out what it does mean when a server says "persistance:on" but it seems to influence each others a lot, too. However, persistance is enabled all over the experimental servers and the stable servers hosted by BI. You can find peristance-enabled servers in the server list by looking for servers that have something like "persistance:enabled" in their names.

    The camo building is stupid

Thanks for adding that. Now you exactly get my POV. PVP is meh because of desync, lag and hackers. PVE is meh because of broken melee, missing content and bugged zombies. And maybe you get now why i dont care about gear, my character, or getting killed in first place, and simply enjoy doing some silly interactions because DayZ offers this possibillity to me, and guess what, THIS works :P No recordings tho, sry, my rig is like from the last century.

    The camo building is stupid

It ain't hard to do it just the other way. You can camp the shit out of the Camo building either as an attacker or an defender. You know what? I will try that out. Once i find someone camping the stairs in the Jail i will force him to move to 1st floor and then sit down below the stairway with both the first floor and the corner to the entrance in sight. Then i will open voice and read a really silly book to him. Sounds like a fun afternoon to me.

    The camo building is stupid

Okay, i might have gotten you wrong then. Sorry for that. But lets approach from the other side. What building you would say is the exact opposite of the jail? Wherein can you have an exciting, not-patience-based pvp battle? The sudden stop/speed reduction thing seems to be a bug tho. Going up somewhere while sprinting is bugged since idk when, even its just a slight slope.
  16. Reading the latest status report and taking into account what the devs are aiming for with 0.49, i would really like it to hit Experimental just this month. I don't think it will reach stable in august tho. But I ain't mad about it. Take your time. Rushed updates only lead to another frustrating week with people writing pointless "OMG FIX THIS" threads on the forum. So, what do i expect compared to what the devs deliver? Nothing really. I expect nothing from the devs when it comes to update schedule and content. The devs are not working to make me happy, they are designing a game on the fly as we play it, so its up to them what and when they add and update stuff. Again, wrong expectations is one of the major problems of people participating in an Alpha.

    The camo building is stupid

Imo, it's not a bug, it's a feature. Camo buildings as well as barracks are high loot buildings. I see no problem in them having a threat to be trapped inside. Getting an AKM or a high cap vest shouldnt be as easy as getting a can of peaches. That being said, the risk of being trapped inside is not a must have feature for high loot buildings, so i am totally fine with the ATC tower or the fire / police stations have multiple entrances / exits. But high traffic / high risk buildings shall not necessarily have an emergency exit. And to be honest, if someone camps the jail, i either decide to fight him or simply move on and loot the rest of the area. Theres nothing exclusive spawning in there, and if a guy is already in it, it is most likely looted anyway. Also, that dude camping the jail could be you just being trapped by someone outside whishing there would be a second exit.

    BattlEye Bans?

This is not the BattleEye support, Bro. Noone here to help you out.
  19. I agree. Nothing would be worse than a rushed, bugged update because the community cried for it. Looking forward to a nicely done, bugged 0.49, though.

    Sounds like a good party.

    Spearfishing

Hey Forum, Now that we can craft sharpened sticks, what about adding spearfishing to the game? Food is much more rare now with loot respawn being introduced, and i really like the idea of basic survival tactics such as hunting and fishing becoming more important tasks to keep your character energized. However, the ammount of items needed to go fishing at the moment doesnt allow fishing to be a "basic survival thing", especially when you start a new character ( which is the time when hunger is the biggest problem ). I would like it if all you need to go fishing would be an ashwood stick and a bladed weapon e.g. kitchen knife or machete. Use the knife to sharpen the stick, go spearfishing, use knife to get tasty fish filets. Your thoughts?

Tent Wipe #2...why? "Devs please read"

Indeed, persistant storage caused some weird duping glitches from time to time, and i am all for a full wipe to reproduce / figure out / solve this problem. In the end, this glitch might also most likely have an impact on item respawn and thus causes even bigger problems. ( right dude, you will starve because there is no food since my tent just spawned 50 protector cases hahahahah ) We are at the build-nr. that initally implemented persitant storage. Who the hell expects it to work flawlessly right from the start ? It's a new feature, be aware that it will be broken.
  23. A wipe is a big win anyway because it deletes the hacked stuff being already ingame.
  24. ChainReactor

    Spearfishing

Adding a wide variety of guns to the game also leads to the same result - boom, boom.... :) Seriously, how about making spear fishing less efficient than fishing with a rod, making it a "low-tier" possibility to acquire food? My point is, fishing in DayZ right now is a nice hobby rather than a need. By the time you finally found everything to start fishing, you probably found plenty of food anyway, so fishing is no real alternative to looting because ... well, you need to loot a lot to begin with it in first place. EDIT: Ninja'd with the effectiveness idea.

Status Report - Week of 18 August 14

This is a very, very promising status update. Can't wait for 0.49 now. Also, yes, global wipe to get rid of duped items and hacked mags. Just make sure theres no way to bring such stuff back into the game pls. Sounds like good work !
