Guys, please don't take my post personal now, i dont mean to offend anyone of you, but i have to ask you a simple question: "Do you follow the development process of the alpha you are participating in at all?" Like, do you read devblogs, do you read status reports. Are you following the Devs on Twitter, Reddit or Twitch, do you actually know what they are working on and how things function inside of the game? If not, you might be simply wrong here. I mean, its like many people just dont get that they are not playing a game yet. Everytime a patch comes out, they ask basic questions already answered numerous times, ask whats new whilst quoting a post linking to the patchnotes, wondering every wendesday why there are no servers and demand after every update to "fix the zombies", and the elite of those people open a thread on the forums yelling "THIS SHIT DOESNT WORK" while "This shit" reffers to something mentioned under "known issues" in the patchnotes. To let you know, the Zombies made good improvements over the last patches since the navmesh was initially released. Yeah, they can still enter certain buldings, but often its related to a bug with door state and client server communication, which is new. Melee got improved, but some people still report massive issues. I personally tried to melee like the devs mentioned how they plan to implement melee ( rather look at weapon swing instead of crosshair ) and it works just fine for me. And thats just two aspects of zombies. I didnt mention the collision mechanics, the respawning, the sensors behaviour and all that stuff. "Fix the Zombies" is something no dev on this world can work with. You know, when you play an alpha, it is much less dissapointing when you know where they are working on, what will come next and how big the next steps are gonna be. That being said, you should be really following the channels the devs offer to you. You know, DayZ doesnt work like "I payed, i wanna play, and if its shit i'm angry". So, can you explain the basics of central loot economy to me? Can you tell me how the navmesh works? Do you remember what the single one big new feature of 0.47 was and ( hint here!!! ) can you distinguish between item persistance and persistant storage? If not, why? Its all public on several channels. If you're not interested in following the development process, why do you buy a game in development? Sorry for the rant, but it's exhausting.

Are you aware that before a patch hits stable, it's usually on experimental for quite some time and that all that info you are asking is already available in this forum, and on youtube, and on twitch, and on imgur etc... ? 0.49 is actually three weeks old. And it's awesome.

Disconnects / Character Reset Consistently
ChainReactor replied to triplebullet187's topic in Troubleshooting
Multiplay does have some issues. Better stay away from those servers until further notice. During Alpha, it's always good to stay in touch with the Dev's. You'll get immediate info about whats happening. -
first iteration of central economy
ChainReactor replied to R0B3RTF1SH3R's topic in General Discussion
Central loot economy only means that the distribution and the spawning of ( all ) loot is now controlled by the central hive rather than the server. You don't have to go in detail about rare loot. If theres 50 000 cans of beans available for the hive, it will spawn it all across all servers. Loot respawn isnt happening on server restart anymore, but determined by the central hive. Thats central loot economics. -
Just going to the subforum concerning the Experiental branch here and look at the 2 (!!!) stickies would have even saved you from searching. Anyway, you found it.

Rather have a popup on the forum index that you need to confirm with a button labeled "I understand" Oh wait.... that never worked :P

[Maintenance] All Servers Are Down?!
ChainReactor replied to kylefinlayson1997's topic in General Discussion
Mods, can't you just move http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum-125/announcement-11-wednesday-server-maintenance/ to the general discussion subforum ? I figure that announcement about weekly server maintenance is hard to find for new forum users down in the servers subforum ( eventhough it makes sense ) and i think i can say its a fact that we have such threads almost every wednesday. -
French DayZ players, what do you say instead of "friendly"?
ChainReactor replied to DannyFilming's topic in General Discussion
Êtes-vous génital? -
Lol, i am fully aware of how things are now, I live in eastern Germany and I visit CZ like once a month to go shopping some stuff ( yeah, i'm one of those tourists :P ) The point where i needed your knowledge was when i said "there never was cyrillic alphabet in CZ in "the past" like, for example, before WW2. :) ) Anyway, thanks for the reply. If I will once meet you in Petrovice, i will do the Q and E dance to show that i am friendly.

How can the community help youtubers/streamers?
ChainReactor replied to hiniberus's topic in General Discussion
Boneboys, please stop the offtopic and the random bumping of the thread. If you don't abide by the forum rules, consequences might follow. Kind regards, The forum users. -
As far as the Chernarus = Czech Republic comparsions go, afaik the Czech Republic never used the cyrillic alphabet, Hombre might correct me if i'm wrong. So lets just stick to the fact that Chernarus is a fictional, poor, post-sovjet country. While the geography is based on Ustecky kraj, the general setting reminds me more of rural areas of Belarus. For the weapons, i dont like assault rifles and any other typically military-only gear. For no reason, i just don't like it and i have the feeling that it doesnt really suit the game if it becomes to much. I wanna see hunting rifles, shotty's, handcrafted weapon modifications ( obrez was win! ) and all that stuff. Being a fully kitted modern age combat soldier kills the immersion to survive in a post-apocalyptic scenario for me. I know the "ArmA with Zombies" argument is kinda old, but thats exactly how i feel. My character is no elite soldier. It's some random average dumbass that just woke up at the coast and needs to figure out how to survive the nightmare he just got into. So, as everyone is free to play a sandbox game as he wishes, i avoid military gear, and that being said i dont need M16's, M107's, G3's, G36's, STEYR AUG's and all that shit. I'm fine with the M1 however, since it's actually the western SKS.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?
ChainReactor replied to banjo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
To be fair, ( and it was my fault not to link to the souce of the image ), the post was made 12 months ago. I'm sure there have been many improvements in both ArmA3 and DayZ, but i think the picture explains the initial descision which engine to choose and the reasoning behind it. -
Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?
ChainReactor replied to banjo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There might have been reasons not to do so.... -
Since this is supposed to be a weekly stream, why not put on a topic where we can discuss stuff adressed in the stream. Link to the stream: http://www.twitch.tv/dayz/b/568207539 THIS SUMMARY ISNT COMPLETE YET! Some points that have been adressed: Dynamic Loot spawn The devs are working on a general dynamic loot and event spawn system ( already utilized by the chopper crash sites ) to make loot spawn at randomly generated places on server init and during server lifetime to make looting more dynamic, as opposed to "Item X spawns at location Y". Things like that should in the end be controllable by server owners. The information about loot spawning also will be a part of the loading screen, so mislieading server names ( "high loot, 1 h restart, much military" ) will be revealed. Renderer replacement "Our target is to make it start to pay off in Q1 2015". However, this is a long term goal, and still a long way to go, since its a very major improvement to the engine. Watch the status reports for updates. Sound bugs / random sounds / lag issues The devs are aware of the problem and found ways to reproduce those bugs. Most of them are related to server-side performance. That is why you encounter less random sounds / gunshots missing on a relatively fresh server or on low player count. Server side optimiziation is one of the next goals ( and will eventually come with a higher player cap, steadily increased in small portions, with 100-player-servers as the goal, no ETA tho. ) Also, lag issues in firefights are connected with that, like when you shoot a player, the server doenst register that, player kills you and eventually dies to your shot from 3 seconds ago -> messed up priorities under load. VR / Oculus Rift support Not before 1.0, initial release of the game. Expanded Character customization "Sims style" Hicks isnt sure if that is possible with the current engine. Might be adressed after 1.0. Seasons Different seasons throughout the year are definitely upon the teams wishlist. However, its not within the scope of the final release, but - again depending on the engine - something they could add after the inital final release. Items/Guns Items and guns need a lot more work than just the model. Expect more weapons to be added during beta, since they are no game changing content. Compagnion pets Horses and dogs and such have been discussed internally, but are not in development yet. Don't expect it during alpha. New Zombie looks and animations WIP and currently implemented, current experimental build has already got some new zombie animations. Barricading / base building Hicks: We don't really have plans to support building a two-story house in the forests. He emphasizes the difference between barricading existing structures and improvised base-building that would fit into a post-apocalyptic world. However, Hicks speaks about every method to store things ( like locking a door ) will bring a counter-measure with it, such as lock picking, so some sort of balance is provided. Minor stuff: - dynamic events should not happen in some players network bubble. - LMG's might be added later, but rather likely to spawn on dynamic loot spawns hive-wide to provide scarcity and a reason to search for that very one item ( same for the possible SVD and rare weapon attachements ) DISCLAIMER: 4AM here now, and i am at 01.07.40 into the stream, feel free to add what has been adressed too, but i really need to go to bed now.

For those of you that have lost faith in DayZ...
ChainReactor replied to pabloottawa's topic in General Discussion
No, not for that, but rather for the fact that you claim the devs would "build on an unstable foundation" while foundation (engine ) work has been one of the main tasks since the start of the alpha and one main reasons people complained about "to less ( visible ) progress" Then you compare the standalone to the creation of mods of an already existing game. Youre not a troll. You just don't have much of an idea about what you are complaining about. -

SenChi did. To be fair, he said "It can take 2-3 months". He didn't say it will, nor did he generalize his statement over all buildings. -

You know, i get your point, and i support it by some means. I think they should really add .50 BMG to the game. ( lol, sorry )
