DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Yes and no. It's an ongoing process as they replace bits and pieces of the engine with every new patch. Right now we have many parts redone or improved, but are still running on the old engine in other parts of it. I.e., AI navigation is already the new engine while the renderer is still the old one and about to be replaced soon.

Temperature effects are broken since hotfix

That sounds as the game simply fails to "switch" the status messages but the actual status changes.

Good combat system with the zombies.

Combat tip for all the melee weapons - stand just in front of a wall, as close as you can get and then hit it. You will see where the wall takes the hit.

    Leg Glitch Death

If you are in a server and you notice lagspikes, more desync than usual or a bad ping, stay away from everything except ground level. The bug is caused by the server thinking you're in another position than your client does, and will simply "drop" you out of the air server-side, which breaks your legs or kills you eventually. Never happened to me again since i have an eye on this ( mostly play on servers with ping <50. Also, teleporting zombies are a good indicator that you should stay on the ground ).

    Persistence and Public Servers

The official servers "DE1-19 hosted by XXXX ( Persistance: ON )" are run by Bohemia Interactive and have persistance enabled by default. Any other server admin can decide wether he wants to have it enabled or not. There still seem to be problems with it though ( server restarts, restart loops and so on ) Bottom line is: Persistance isn't reliable yet, so don't waste all your gaming time on finding a tent, its a 50/50 chance that it will bug to hell.

    How to Approach other players?

On top of the other guys advices, one thing that i always stick to is: Sound friendly You cannot expect a controlled encounter when you start yelling "YO PUT YOUR EFFING GUN DOWN" and throw the other player in panic. Mostly, when i'm confident that i have the drop on the other player, i just say "Hello man, i'm friendly and i have my gun aimed at you" ( I love how ridiculously less sense that makes :) ) with a relaxed voice. If he stops and answers, this is the point - as stated before - to make your intentions as clear as possible. If you're hiding in cover, don't leave it until at least this point. Noone likes to be suprised, give the other player a chance to realise and get used to the situation. I do that almost every time and roughly 8/10 of my encounters ( with communication ) are friendly. You have to be selective though. If you encounter a fully geared squad of 6 people, sometimes you could sing "Don't cry for me, Argentinia" over Direct and they still turn your body into a bloody pile of mud. Speaking about "sound friendly" : One day i couldnt find anything else but tracksuits, so i decided to RP my way. I just "jogged" towards Berezino and when i met the first player on my way, I opened my mic and said "Good morning sir, already picked up your newspaper?" while passing him with a tone in my voice like you really would meet your neighbour on your morning run around the block. I wouldnt call that an encounter though, because he interrupted my cardio with his shotgun immediately.

    Goodbye Balota barracks

I like how they did it, turning them into ruins instead of simply removing it. And it's no loss at all in my opinion. We still have 11 barracks buildings on the map. They are roughly just as far away from the most-western spawnpoints as before and Tisy Military Base is already about to be implemented, so there will be an increase in military spawnpoints in the near future.

    Spawn near your Friends (realistic)

No. Having a friend or a group to play with is a big advantage over other players. This shouldn't be easy to achieve at all.

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

Maybe the condition of the clothes you wear has an impact? My current 3PP Char has relatively cheap gear - a beanie, a black hoodie, auutum hunter pants and athletic shoes, but everything is pristine and i get "I am slowly cooling off" / "I am slowly warming up" alternating, so i should be fine.

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Actually, client/server communication ( which is also a part of the engine ) is often the bottleneck when it comes to FPS. The client can't render and calculate what the server isn't telling in time.

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?

Food balancing is a very fine line though. If you nerf canned foods, then freshspawns need an alternative to picking berries and apples, as both are highly uneffective in results and nutritional value. I remember i starved many times in exp 0.48 when there was really no loot except shoes and hats in a large circle around the spawnpoints. The current problem with food alternatives such as hunting or fishing is that they are relatively item-heavy. If you run around hungry with only 4 slots in your inventory and no gun or any melee weapon better than a shovel, stuff gets really hard. A medium geared player has way less problems to find alternatives to canned food, but its very annoying when you can't get a character going beyond freshspawn phase bcs food is to scarce. On a sidenote: With that problem in mind, i've read the thread title, thought i could agree here, only to find out that the OP was about an AKM. An AKM !

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Actually most of what i've talked about went from scripted events in the Mod/on the ArmA2 Engine to hard coded components of the actual game engine or got massively improved at least.

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

When you talk about "the engine", please don't boil it down to graphics. That's not what it is. "The engine" runs actually everything a player can't see directly in game, just the effects of it. Some examples of what got its place in the Engine since the start of DayZ SA? ( one might correct me if i'm wrong ) AI Pathfinding: AI actively searches a way to or away from the player by using dynamically calculated routes. ( navmesh, Zombies, animals ) Collision detection: Are you tired of zombies going through walls and wallglitchers shooting you? Collision system might be your place to work on ! Client/Server communication: Tired of having 2 FPS in Novo eventhough you run an SSD, 2 GTX780 in SLI and a CPU the NASA would be jealous about? Ever thought that the server just isnt able to send enough data per second to your client to use your rig? This is your playground now. Sound system: Yeah, playing sound X on event Y is easy, however, for a good immersion it needs to be dynamic, with different sounds, filters, distance and direction calculations, and local ambient sounds not connected to most of that. Loot distribution: Yeah, you can define "spawnpoint X" in "civilian_house_2" to spawn either a mosin, a sks or a blaze. And you reset all of this on server restart. But thats not cool for a game that is intended to provide the same experience hive-wide. Wanna make loot respawning all across DayZ ? Loot distribution is surely one of the single most important engine parts. Melee mechanics: You make them hit with the crosshair, people will complain. You make them hit with the animation, people will complain. Welcome to one of the most sensitive parts of DayZ. Feel free to invent a solution that will make everyone happy. Melee is also a part of the engine. And that are just some parts of "the engine" that came out of my mind. I didn't even mention the renderer, what would be the graphics-part of the engine. You see, the engine is quite complex, eventhough they are "just" altering an existing one. But there is so much work to be done until we see actual changes in game and there wont be a patch ever that states "New engine now in" - its a steady process, and you will see the changes over time if you know where to look. Enginewise, they did a great job so far.

    Lovely People out there...

Thats true indeed. It seems to me that - especially younger people - are taking computer games way to serious and also lost the feel for foul language and even it being a game at all to some extend. I mean, death threats are not the only thing, its also all that insulting after they killed someone. "AHAHAH KILLED YOU YOU SHIT IDIOT LOOK AT YOUR STUPID FACE" i mean what? You killed an enemy in a game that allows you to kill other players. Whats the big deal? You know what i really miss some times? Sportsmanship. Whenever i play a competitive online game, i try to be a good sportsman. When i get defeated in a fair game, i congratulate my enemy for playing well. It's not weakness when you say "Good game / shot / move to your opponent when you feel he deserves it. When they get defeated, they're like "F YOU IMMA GONNA KILL YO SISTER SHES A HOE" Thats just sad.

The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino

Skalisty Island ( the bigger one, close to Kamyshovo ) is still a nice place to go. Until the devs build a kickass prison there that spawns top-tier military loot. :P

DayZ Standalone State & Perspective @Dean Hall

Just a quick one on this paragraph: Are you aware that: - each kind of clothing and its condition has a different armor rating and how much it will protect you from getting cold or wet? With the release of 0.49, clothing actually has become important. - the condition of melee weapons has an impact on the damage being dealt. Moreso, if you take a screwdriver for example, a badly damaged one will spill much more food from an opened can than a pristine one, which ultimatively has an impact on survival the more scarce canned food gets. - each food has different nutrition values ? I wanna force feed you rice to make you die of dehydradation :D

DayZ Standalone State & Perspective @Dean Hall

When you are dissapointed that DayZ SA is not like Epoch and Origins, well, why don't you simply play Epoch and Origins? I mean, i really don't get it. You don't want to care about more or less in-depth survival mechanics such as hunger, weather, illness but you come to the official forums of the game that tries to enforce this? You want a tactical milsim. Well. *Cough*, DayZ is no tactical milsim. ArmA is.
