Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
ChainReactor replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
I think we're arguing in a circle because the OP's question actally doesn't make much sense. "Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?" What now ? Is DayZ ( the entire game ) fictional? Yes. Is it set in Ukraine? No. What is a "fictional Ukraine?" I don't know. Is there a real life equivalent to the map? Well, partly. Let's say the map is inspired by Usti's topography. Does that have anything to do with the theme of the map? No. Do the cities names exist in real world? Yes. Again, has this anything to do with the game? No. So, is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine? No, because if it would be set in Ukraine, it wouldn't be fictional, and if it would be fictional, it wouldn't be the Ukraine. Get it? No? Me neither. -

Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?

Wow pilgrim, I also think you got Whyherro123 wrong here. Maybe he shouldn't have said "the government" but rather "the theme". The actual topography of Chernarus really matches the Usti Region ( the river Labe obv recreating the Chernarussian coastline ), but the theme of the map is clearly post-sovjet-russian. -
Same FPS with OC'd GTX 970 as GTX 670
ChainReactor replied to Borges (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You CPU usage is just an average value. The CPU itself is a closed system on it's own. Also afaik, DayZ doesn't support multiple cores yet. So when core 1 of your CPU is busy with calculating stuff or assigning memory for DayZ, the entire rest of your processor might be on standby and you will get a fairly low cpu usage. Simulations always tend to be CPU-heavy since simulation means much calculating. If a simulation doesnt use much of your CPU that means it isnt optimized to do so. Welcome to Alpha. I can't tell you what you can do to improve your performance, but if you upgrade your graphics card and nothing changes, the graphics card wasn't the bottleneck. You should however never upgrade your computer only to run an Alpha game better. Client side optimization is done in Beta. -

Hey, your blue route leads through my hometown. Feel free to stop by on your way, I always have plenty of beer in my fridge. :) -
Experimental updates go live whenever they are ready, however it was mostly on mondays lately. The latest stable patch 0.49124972 never hit Experimental before its release, so yeah it happens, but that was a hotfix that solved server side issues. I don't think new items will be released without testing on Exp before.

Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?

Given that the mapdesigners only took the topographic info of the region, this could be a very dissapointing experience :) -
Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
ChainReactor replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
This, yes. The geographical setting must not necessarily match the theme of the map. And yes, Czech Republic never used the cyrillic alphabet, nor was it ever a part of the sovjet union ( though it was a warsaw pact country ). -

Geographically, Chernarus is set in the Usti nad Labem region of the Czech Republic, so neither Ukraine nor Russia.- 75 replies

Hey guys, fellow forum user Pilgrim brought up an idea in another thread that i'd like to suggest here. So I think we've all experienced servers that kick strangers, threat to reset characters, have a high count on hackers or are bad in any other way. Since we have a favourtie servers list, how about the abillity to right click "bad" servers in the browser and remove them from the list and introduce a "bad servers" list where they eventually end up on? Sure this wouldnt get rid of badmins or hackers in any way, but it would prevent us from getting onto those servers by accident again and would clean up the serverlist a bit. rgrds CR

Minor correction: They do produce heat, but on the ground level beneath the fireplace ( the server "drops" the heat through the floor just like it sometimes drops characters and breaks our legs, thankfully, fireplaces have no legs, but logs :) ) Tested this out by myself in a piano house ( fire on 1st floor, me warming up on ground level beneath it ).

Is it considered bad form to server hop at military areas?
ChainReactor replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
Interesting to read, pilgrim. Those were definitely memories to share. Beans for that. I have to agree with you on the "bad servers" list. In fact, I might just open a suggestion to see what other people think about it. -
Yeah same reason. Might have been a lagspike. Server tought you're in mid air and bam, drops you. Known bug for a long time, and I agree its really really annoying.
-
You almost certainly dropped through the floor upon login. Don't log out on anything above ground level.
-
^ this. Zombies: They currently can aggro on you from miles away, what sometimes makes them seem to appear out of the blue. If you decide to log out, stand still there for some minutes to make sure you don't have zombie aggro. Logging out on an airfield: You have a logout timer. When you leave the server, your character will keep on standing where you logged out for 30 seconds, which makes him very vulnerable to other players. This is to reduce server hopping, and an airfield is the last place you wanna be exposed without control about your guy. Logging out in buildings: Buildings are sometimes bugged, especially when you log out above ground level. Sometimes on login, your character loads in faster than the building, wich makes the server think youre standing around in the air and makes you drop to the ground server-side. The result is the well known exploding pants or sometimes even death. Loggin in after Restart: Quite simple: The server needs some minutes to connect to the central database ( and thus your player information ). If you rejoin to fast the server can't find your player info and creates a new character for you.

Much more simple. Implement a third black screen, like dead and unconcious, just saying: "You are defecating" I swear, if they implement this and someone makes a shirt out of that line, i will buy it to show my DayZ love :D

Question on graphics - Post Processing please help
ChainReactor replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
this. If the game gets to blurry, Hit Esc -> Settings -> Video -> ( do nothing here ) -> Esc -> Esc -> you're fine. This resets the post processing. -
The new running animation, Why?
ChainReactor replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Am I the only one thinking that the characters forearms look way to big/long? -
Let me correct you just on this tiny little sentence - no, you dont "have to". It's a sandbox, remember? :) I tired out the run for gear a few times. The process was fun, but the outcome was horrible. I got attached to my gear, made me paranoid and not playing for several days and only come to look after my character during the morning hours when i knew he would be safe. I didn't enjoy that and to be honest, maybe i played the game wrong myself at that point. I was a fully kitted elite infantrist sitting in a bush shaking. Now I start a fresh character very often. I never reach the "fully geared" part of the game anymore, and i love it. I can run around carelessly and write my own stories with other players. I have very limited gaming time over the week ( mostly just one night ) and i am excited about every player encounter i have. That being said, i am friendly all the time, and i payed my dues, but what should i complain about if I enjoy the process from being a bambi to be "geared", which in my eyes means to have bright green statuses and an axe? I mean, you can do everything in Chernarus when you reach that level. I know this is all just IMO and 0.02$ but you have much more fun with other people when you dont look or act like an elite combat soldier.

One amazing night on the 75 man servers! The darkest and lightest that DayZ has to offer...
ChainReactor replied to therunningmanz's topic in Gallery
Awesome stuff TRMZ, i had a day off when the 75-Servers went online and considered to give it a shot too, but sadly i decided otherwise. On the other hand, i never go to Berezino, i had my very first death to a player there and avoid it like the plaque ever since. :D And yes, Hollis had a pretty notable german accent. Says another german. -
Is This A Mechanic Or A Bug? Bone Condition Death...
ChainReactor replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
I'm curious if the devs will mind to shed some lights on this observations, since i think it is really interesting. Props to Aggathor however, that man is doing great videos. If you dont follow his youtube channel already, you should consider to do so. -
"Something isn't easy. Fix it!!!!"
-
They will keep the ALPHA/early access yes, since you don't add content anymore during beta. So no, the 4th option isn't an option since they will implement Vehicles during alpha, because this is when they add features.
-
I can imagine that either barricading or vehicles would be a nice little christmas gift for the community. I really don't expect it earlier. And if it comes out later, no problem at all. As most of us, I am looking forward to vehicles as well, but actually i don't care much about it. I am certainly NOT looking forward for the first implementation of vehicles on Experimental, because Exp will be overrun with people that expect everything being polished, which will lead to massive ammounts of whining threads here on the forum that "shit is broken, devs fix it ASAP!!!!", so I'm totally fine with them taking the time they need. Hopefully i can play Experimental the way it used to be before soon again, with people actually searching for new stuff and testing it out together.
