DayZ Standalone - What would happen if zombies are deadly?
DirtySpartan replied to Wayze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm pretty sure OP specified zombies could outrun you while you are running normally. You can still sprint though. -
Base building - Why is it so important to everyone?
DirtySpartan replied to m.cab's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People are looking forward to base building because there aren't many survival mechanics and finding/making shelter is a crucial part of it. -
Standalone Release Predictions
DirtySpartan replied to Jgut90's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm just going to leave this here http://steamdb.info/app/221100/#section_history along with www.gaben.tv -
I like the increase in difficulty but stuff needs to get balanced and loot spawns need a fix. Half of the time nothing will spawn wherever you go, and zombies infect you every 2nd hit. IMHO a mechanic to combat the infection that doesn't involve finding antibiotics needs to be implemented. The infection rate wouldn't be that bad if avoiding zombies was possible at all, since most of them will see you the moment you decide to go prone anyway.

Any streams of DayZ at E3 ?
-
I've upgraded to a 670 w/ 3570K @4.5Ghz and an SSD a week ago and my old 9600gt could still run DayZ at a steady 40fps with some stuff on normal/high. Imo forcing graphic options that have an effect on gameplay is a must, but it must have as low of a performance hit as possible. Stuff like view distance has to have a max limit instead of a fixed setting and there need to be more specific settings for further optimization (i.e shadow view distance or resolution or simple solutions such as blending the player into a low-res bush if specific conditions are met i.e "wearing camo and prone" on low performance machines, if it is possible)

I think the Standalone will be fantastic, no matter what the other threads say.
DirtySpartan replied to DayzForumer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just hope I'll be able to upgrade my pc as to make it playable before it's released. I still got 350 hours on DayZ with an average fps of 25 no matter what settings I set it to. I'd really like to enjoy the view and actually stand a chance in shootouts in towns. -
Will SA be modder friendly?
DirtySpartan replied to BearGravy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd hate to miss out on playing awesome maps such as Taviana in the standalone. But 24/7 day 500+ vehicles servers do need to go. -
If anything you should up your graphic settings to get the load off of the cpu.

Knocking people out.
DirtySpartan replied to The Shane Walsh of DayZ's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This would actually be a great way towards less KoS, since there isn't any way to deal with untrustworthy people right now. Would it work as a stealth mechanic or would it be implemented into melee combat, perhaps both? -
Zombies in 1.7.6 are what really ruins immersion
DirtySpartan replied to leviski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
IMO, this will only be truly fixed once the standalone arrives, since the amount of zombies will (hopefully) be increased, along with the general difficulty of DayZ itself. Then again, for the mod itself, I guess decreasing zombies' aggro tendencies and increasing the amount of how much of a pain they are once they are aggro'd would go a long way at making the DayZ mod a better experience. -
What are the three things you want to be in Standalone?
DirtySpartan replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Some kind of buddy system where there's some kind of indication as to whether you are looking at your buddy or at a guy that's about to stick a crossbow bolt up your arse. 2. Increased zombie limits, roaming zombies, no twitchy animations, no Usain Bolt zombies. 3. Less high-tier weapons and more low-tier ones 3.5 Increase in overall difficulty -
I think my best kill was while driving back to the coast in a mil truck with my squad to pick up someone who died and take control of an area. We were driving through the forest at night and when we drove out of the treeline all I heard was a bump , shortly followed by ***** was killed in the chat.

I finally opened my eyes. I am really glad I did. I couldn't get rid of the nightmares; Not after witnessing what madness flourished through this land, moreover encountering "them". They couldn't be called human anymore. Judging from what I saw, all they were after was to sink their teeth into the first living thing they would encounter. They definitely weren't alive either, one of them didn't even stagger after I had stabbed it in the chest, right where the heart should be. And the worst thing isn't even encountering one of "them". There were also people, gone out of control. They somehow managed to arm themselves to the teeth, and were out to kill people, not the dead kind either. They also didn't seem to be doing it for any gain, since they left the bodies untouched after Nevertheless, I still have to get out of here. It would seem that the coast is not a place I would want to be. I only got a small look at a city on the horizon. It was up in flames. Looks like staying away from the coastal cities would be a good idea. After a breakfast consisting of some stale cookies and a can of coke I managed to grab from some gasstation on the way here, I got out of the barn. They were outside. After running for what seemed like an eternity I arrived in another village. I lost my pursuers , but to be honest it wasn't even that hard. They got discouraged after I hit the treeline. I couldn't make out what the sign on the road said. I think it was written in Russian. A hell of a hangover I must've had. The last thing I remembered was boarding a plane. I grabbed whatever I could ; Lots of canned beans and pasta, a water bottle, a map, a compass and a revolver with 18 bullets. Who the hell keeps these things in a grocery store anyway? After examining the map I decided to go north , towards "Pustoshka" , it was only a few kliks away and I wouldn't want to be going south. About halfway there I noticed a wooden structure in the treeline. It had to be a deerstand. Maybe there were some leftover supplies ...? I made my way up the ladder without making any noise. "Holy **** " A brand-new military sniper rifle ! The "DMR." Those pesky bandits are going to have some trouble with this one. Since no-one in their right mind would leave something like this in the open, there had to be a camp somewhere deeper into the forest. I searched for what seemed an hour, but I couldn't find anything. It was already getting dark. I sat down and thought of what I should do next.Suddenly blinding lights seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Oh boy! Fellow survivors! It's time to engage in jolly co-operation! There were a total of 5 people in the military truck. I must've been really absorbed in thought if I didn't hear this beast coming. They all introduced themselves and I got in the back, only to be greeted by "Oppa Gangam style" coming out of the speakers. Pretty weird mood for a zombie apocalypse, but everyone has their taste , I guess. I wanted to ask where we were headed but as soon as I opened my mouth I closed it again. I couldn't believe what I saw. We were flying. We were surrounded by flames, seemingly we were in one of the coastal cities. We landed on a roof and I tried to get out, but I couldn't control my body. Suddenly I saw a flash and was greeted by the "you are dead" screen. Add explosions and weapons floating in the air and shooting by themselves or going from feasting upon delicious beans to free-falling into the ocean and you have yourself your average hive experience. This pretty much sums up my gameplay for today.

You can loot your own body and you can therefore die with no repercussions ? What about the long run to get there, not to mention the possibility of your body, or your ph4t l00tz, not being there anymore ? Vehicles lasting only one hour ? What would be the point of even getting one ? It would be much more efficient to just run rather than to repair a vehicle and only use it once. Tents disappearing when you die ? Now , this is a pretty controversial matter but imo hoarding keeps people busy and it's only natural that you would try to get as much good stuff as you can. When tent duplication is gone you will actually have to choose what to keep and what to throw away, due to the tent only having so many slots, and I'm not even mentioning people being able to find your secret stash of pr0nz. Also, tent storage space will most likely be drastically reduced in the standalone version , something along the line of weapons and items actually taking the amount of slots they do in your inventory.

There should be no high grade weapons in standalone
DirtySpartan replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The point isn't to remove pvp , it's to make it more exciting. It's so you would actually have to get in the action instead of watching tv shows while watching (yo dawg) over a high value loot spot from the hills with your trusty laser cannon of a gun. Now, i'm not saying snipers should be removed, but the .50 cals definitely should . They take no skill and discourage the players from actually engaging anyone since chances are they will get instakilled and will not be able to counter in any way.Not to mention that getting a vehicle is quite a hassle and the .50 cals negate your day long efforts 1 bullet at a time. And I won't even begin on the l85 and it's ability to completely destroy the suspense since it's more or less just like a wallhack. It also matters fuckall whether the high-end weapons are actually common irl or not , since they just don't fit into the game at all. I have much more to say on this topic , however for the weapon system to be perfect it would take the game to be entirely different ( i.e actually scarce resources , gear worth ten times it's weight in gold , player built structures .) -
It is necessary to construct additional pilons. Edit : Ninja'd
