Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
sachad replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I managed to trap one in one of the Veresnik barracks, then axed him through the door and flipped off his limp corpse. In seriousness, zombies clipping through doors is still an issue, but it happens FAR less than before. In the whole time I've been playing .49 I've only seen it twice. Once in a harbor hangar, once in the Elektro police station. For the rest, doors work fine for me. -
Agreed with the tone of voice. I judge people mainly on how they talk to me. Squeakers and screamers will likely get shot at. People with a relaxed and calm demeanor will not. I've also noticed that being outnumbered adds a layer of protection, which seems counterintuitive. A lone player in my experience is far more likely to be hostile than a group. Groups feel safer when approaching lone players so they are less inclined to shoot you. Even if one of them dies at your hands, the rest will kill you, and the dead one will just come back to collect his gear. Also, never ever raise your hands in surrender unless specifically told to. I saw a guy walk towards another person with his hands up, trying to look non-threatening. He got shot instantly. And if possible, talk to them without them seeing you.

Well, that may not be a bad idea, though I feel it might make them too hard to kill for the average survivor. Basically my philosophy on zombies is as follows: If they are undead, destroy the brain. But then they oughta be slower and more numerous. If they are infected but technically alive, body shots should do the trick, but then they should remain fast to offset that.

1. I hear they spawn mostly in apartment blocks now. 2. No real way to tell. Persistence is a thing, but it is unreliable at best. We'll need more input from people who find them and test them.

Like arguing with a brick wall... These aren't superhuman creatures. Deformed and mangled zombies will die very quickly in DayZ. They're just sacks of flesh and bone like regular humans. That's why it doesn't take headshots to kill them. Any injury that is incapacitating/lethal to humans will have the same effect on the zombies.

Been seeing a lot of deer and boar around Vybor lately. I've got more raw steaks than I know what to do with!
-
So far so good. I ended up dumping most of my guy's gear, and now I am living the woodsman life. Have a deer pelt backpack full of deer and boar steaks, crossbow, fire axe, machete and two canteens. Looking for a fish hook now so I can go fishing, and later today I'm gonna try and get some apples and berries for a more varied diet. Aside from complaining about the cold all the time, my guy is doing good. Even had a nice encounter with a bambi who saw my fire. Ended up sitting round the fire telling stories for a bit before I sent him off with some delicious cooked boar steaks. Now I just need a tent... if I can ever find one.

There's other long barracks besides the ones at Balota. You don't even have to go that far. 3 at Veresnik, another at NWAF.
-
It's still pretty easy to find military loot. Took me one trip to Veresnik to have full Gorka uniform, ballistic helmet, AK101 + mag, about 50 rounds of 5.56, assault vest and my all-time favorite thing, Redpunk boots. And I left an SKS, Blaze and crossbow, plus more ammo for them. So... where's that world's smallest violin?

Perhaps an ability to block could be added? Would only work with larger melee weapons like axes and other 'polearms' (can't really block with a screwdriver or a stun baton) and you would have to time it correctly, but it would give you a better chance at taking down a number of zeds without ruining your gear from a single slap.

Ah, no... my friend brought a splint, but I died anyway shortly after. Thanks anyway! -
I find that the more players are on a server, the more dispersed they are. When you think you're alone, you may take more risks, like going to hotspots (NWAF, Berezino, Cherno etc), but others may have the same idea, so you get these situations where there's maybe three or four others on the server and you encounter them all in the same area. Likewise, when a server is at high capacity, you may want to stay away from dangerous spots, when in reality those places are deserted because everyone is too scared to go there as well. Today by way of experiment, I went to the NWAF on a server with 34/40 people, running up and down the runway, occasionally firing a shot into the air. Normally that's an automatic death sentence, and bullets will fly past your ears within seconds. But... nothing. I went to the tents, same thing. I waited for almost an hour for someone to show up, and as soon as I fired another round, not even in his direction, he did a 180 and fled back into the woods.

Well, maybe a pocket knife to fight off zeds? Not that it'd do much better than fisticuffs, but its the thought that counts!
-
I might try this. I recently got into the hunting game business, but as I had a backpack full of canned goods, it seemed kind of pointless. Next time I die, I'll take on the challenge. To be clear: the challenge is to not pick up any 'man-made' food or drink, but everything else is still OK?

Whats your favorite location on the map?
sachad replied to TheMaxedout's topic in General Discussion
I assume by Novojarsk you mean the general NOVOdmitrovsk and SvetloJARSK area? -
Well, it's your lucky day, because nowadays everyone respawns in the same spot! Enjoy it while it lasts!

I think I broke my leg climbing down a ladder once, but that was like... .44 or .45.

Why stop at the coat? I want the trousers and the shoes too! Honestly, if I saw a guy in full Soviet officer get-up, I would run up, salute and offer my services. FOR MOTHER CHERNARUS!

frendly face frendly words UNFRENDLY SHOTGUN lesson
sachad replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
Gaining their trust and then betraying them may be a total dick move, but it's hella smart at the same time. Instead of shooting them in the open and having to sit exposed while you go through their stuff, now you can lead them to a nice quiet place and murder them, then take your sweet time picking through their gear. Welcome to Chernarus! -
I've been ghosted by people well away from any sort of high-profile locations. One time I was running along the eastern railway tracks and some dude spawned in 50 feet in front of me. Besides, you make it sound like these guys are ninjas who only give their presence away by giving you the dread black screen of death. You hear footsteps, doors opening, etc. Even if the dude literally spawns in 3 feet behind you, he still has to notice you, get his weapon out, aim and shoot. If you didn't notice him in that time, you deserved to die. Be aware of your surroundings, all the time, ESPECIALLY in the places you describe. You know people are always ghosting and server hopping in those places, so take precautions. Close doors behind you, watch the corners, and listen carefully. At firsts, ghosts busted me, now I bust ghosts without mercy. You spawn in right next to me, you're eating a bullet sandwich. It's the only situation in which I KOS.

For me it seems the other way around so far. I've found 4 AK101s but no AKM, yet I found 4 drum mags and at least 10 AKM mags, but only one AK101 mag. No 5.56 boxes or loose rounds, but tons of 7.62x39 ammo, both boxed and loose. In fact, I found 4 boxes of it in the Veresnik base on a single server.

whelp, looks like the glitchiest patch yet :S
sachad replied to hellzbro's topic in General Discussion
Yep... most major issues I experience in .49 are server related, not actual gameplay bugs (aside from a few ethereal zombies of course).
