So hard to find mosin/attachments, or is it me?
sachad replied to Leo Harrison's topic in New Player Discussion
Piano houses/garages seem like good spots to find Mosins and attachments. I got a Mosin + LRS + compensator in those places. -
I miss the global text chat channel that was in the MOD
sachad replied to bluesydave's topic in General Discussion
It's also extremely immersion-breaking, and takes away from the atmosphere. -
I've been backstabbed once. Met a bambi, offered to help him find gear, got him some clothes and food, but the minute he picked up the splitting axe I found, he came after me like a maniac. I ended up shooting him in the legs, taking his axe and leaving him behind with a broken leg. He asked me to kill him but I felt like being a cold son of a bitch, so I just took off.

You're right, they shouldn't have to play it smart, but then they should suffer the consequences. DayZ is supposed to be an unforgiving ordeal where only those who adapt will survive, and those who don't will not last very long. If you want to play squad, you best be ready. Can't find enough walkie-talkies? Keep looking until you have enough. They're not that hard to find if you know where to look. You're basically saying that the game should be made easier. I vehemently disagree.
-
Right so why do we need another means of recognition? If you need the game telling you 'that's definitely Paul' then really you're not playing it smart. Grab some walkie-talkies and use them. If it's dark, use flashlights to signal. Hell, many people use Teamspeak anyway so then Paul could just tell you 'hey guys, don't shoot the guy in the red hat, that's me'.
-
What's wrong with just announcing yourself? Making up some kind of signal? Who says Paul didn't get murdered on his foraging trip and his killer is now using his clothes to try and sneak in? You think other survivors might not look like one of your buddies from a distance?
-
You lost me at 'give out quests'. Seriously.
-
Meh. Since your main reasoning for this idea is 'all models look pretty much the same', you've kinda defeated the purpose of your suggestion already. The finished game will have a much greater variety in character models so recognition should be easier. Also, more clothes will be added so you can dress up in a pretty unique fashion. It might help in the alpha, but it won't do much in the finished game. Even so, you should just use your eyes and common sense. You know what Paul was wearing when he left, surely you wouldn't need game text to confirm?
-
But... they killed Tooth Decay... they got him, right? He can't hurt us anymore... right?
-
As long as I don't have to brush my teeth 3 times a day to avoid dying from gingivitis, I'm game.
-
I like it. If they manage to get it right it could be a nice addition to the game. And it'd be nice to get some honey, which never spoils. Apocalypse food level 100!

You might have missed a lot of grenades because of this.

That's where I found one of the two grenades I've had so far. The other one was under one of the beds in the barracks. -
I've gotten a few. 'I think I just wet myself.' 'Welcome to the party, pal.' 'Don't eat the green meat.'

My screen is blurry due to the fire I made :c

Wait until .50 rolls out to stable ;) -
But then it's not really Hunger Games, is it? ;) Hunger Games means last man standing wins.
-
I've noticed that jogging instead of sprinting severely reduces the wear and tear. If you sprint, your shoes will be gone in 15 minutes. I've stuck to jogging, and after 25 minutes my running shoes are still pristine.
-
You can play on a handful of servers right now if you opt into the betas in your Steam client, but I must warn you, the crash-to-desktop thing is a real risk ATM. Happened to me three times the past hour.
-
.50 is the opposite of .49... It marks the first time I've ever had to pick apples just to survive. I imagine it'll be quite a shock for those who don't play experimental. Those who have geared up and stocked up on food and drink should be alright, but those who are just running around with a backpack full of guns and ammunition are going to get a very nasty surprise when they die from starvation, thirst or hypothermia :P

I had a friend who did this, the problem with that is, do it often enough and you have no visual indication just how fucked up you really are. Then a zombie one-shotted him into unconsciousness and I lied and said I had nothing to revive him with :P -
Wouldn't be much fighting going on, I'd say... People will just sprint straight towards the endzone. It'd be better if you actually made it last man standing.
-
Oh you are in for a surprise then ;)
-
Aside from some lag issues sometimes (zombies dropping a few seconds after I've hit them) melee seems to work fine for me. Damage shouldn't be an issue, I just plowed through a dozen zombies with a damaged fire axe. I tend to hit to the right of them, and dragging my attack if needed. I get them on the first swing 75% of the time, and if I miss, I just circle around waiting for another shot. As for grinding, I think you have to drag the axe onto the rock and not vice versa... not sure though, I've not sharpened an axe in ages.
-
I'm hoping to survive longer than 30 minutes!
-
No no no... forget about the dot when fighting melee. All you gotta do is make sure the business end of your weapon physically connects.

There should be no early, mid or end game. There should just be 'game'. I agree that right now the game isn't at all like that, but I have faith that once everything is implemented and balanced, DayZ will change from the boredom-fueled fragfest it is today. Survival will be a continuous labor, some days food will be plentiful, other days you might narrowly avoid starving to death by picking berries or apples. Zombies will be much more of a threat than they are now. And since survival will be much more difficult, interaction will be necessary to survive. You could still just kill a man for his beans, but at least now you're killing for a reason. And why not team up with a few gunners to clear a town of zombies? Same with base-building. If there is something worthwhile to build and protect, people will cooperate. I'm against specialty items, since that'll just create more opportunity for killing people. Why waste time trying to find the Holy Grail when some shmuck holding it walks into your line of sight?
