Well there's two dead bandits lying somewhere in Berezino right now who might disagree. It might be a weak gun in terms of actual stopping power per round, but it makes up for it by being pretty damn quiet, and having a pretty high rate of fire but almost zero recoil. You can put three or four rounds in someone's head before they even realize they're being shot at. As with any weapon, it's all about the user.
-
Doesn't make what he says any less true, though :P
-
Wasn't a jab at you, sorry if it came across as such. I just cringe a little every time someone says the Sporter is a piece of shit gun because it's 'underpowered'.
-
A weapon is only as good as the one wielding it ;)
-
No one does. But optimizing a game that's still in alpha stage is a terrible waste of time and effort.

I wouldn't mind these too much, provided their intent isn't *just* camouflage, so multiple bright colors are needed as well. I hardly ever pick up mountain backpacks because they're not waterproof, so for me these wraps would be mostly to protect my gear, not for camo purposes. I figure that if people would spot me it wouldn't matter much what kind of backpack I have on. I've been killed by guys in pink raincoats that I never saw coming, and I've picked off guys in full camo creeping through bushes from 2-300 yards out. It's the movement that gives you away 90% of the time in my experience, not the color of your gear.
-
Agreed. I already juggle my inventory around so that things are in 'natural' places i.e. I keep a spare mag for any gun I use in my jacket or vest (once I have one). Most of the stuff in my backpack is stuff I'd normally only take out when I'm in a safe spot, such as food or tools. Maybe a bit on the OCD side but I find it more aesthetically pleasing than just piling junk into open slots as you find it.

Go to a mid pop server he said....it'll be fun he said...

That's always my opening move when encountering hostiles. Run like a bitch! -
We're arguing semantics now, is that it?
-
You said 'failed to make a good game'. That's bad.
-
Explain how liking something over something else automatically makes the something else bad. I liked Rome: Total War. But I liked Rome: Total Realism even better. Does that mean R:TW was a bad game? Fuck no.

City wars! Cherno vs Elektro! Berezino vs Novo!

Comparing the mod to the standalone is comparing a moped to a sports bike. The standalone exists precisely to take the premise of the mod and turn it into a completely unique game that isn't bound by the limitations of being a mod. The fact that they're two different experiences is kind of the whole selling point. Also, you complain that people want to turn the SA into Epoch, so then why are you opposed to mods? Epoch-style mods would shut these people up and stop them from tying to push their own demands onto the SA. Like it or not, there will always be many players who will turn DayZ into a PvP deathmatch game, so then why would you oppose anything that would help separate these people from the rest of the player base? There's going to be mods that do precisely the opposite of Epoch, too. The only reason people stop playing stuff is because they're bored with it or have a better alternative. If the vanilla mod servers are empty, that speaks more about the vanilla mod than it does about the mods that took all its players away. Incidentally, you already bought the singleplayer version of this game.

"End of the Line" - DayZRP (Nazis, hostages and, of course, torture!)

To be fair it's your own fault for your flippant response to running over their friend :p -
Oh stop comparing the mod to the standalone for god's sake. They won't even compare to each other when the latter is finished. I never played, but from what I gather, the mod is still a clunky, unpolished mess, much like the standalone, but they are already two different experiences. The mod was built off a straight PvP game, of course a big chunk of the player base from that game is going to enjoy the same thing in DayZ, which is why they still play Epoch et al. And the ones who don't, they should be playing the standalone alpha right now, along with a whole bunch of new players - like myself - who never played the mod and bought into the standalone because it promises a different kind of gameplay than the mod. I'm not looking to play Epoch, and from the general tone in the topic, I'd say I'm hardly alone in that. So let the PvP boys have their Epoch. Be glad they'll no longer be playing on your servers.
-
So then don't play any of the mods. And who's to say there won't be quality mods that crank the nightmare factor of this game to 11? Not every mod is going to be Epoch. And honestly, I hope some of them are really good Epoch-style mods, so that all the players who enjoy that style of play can go there. Diversify, maaannn...

You'd only see that if you made the conscious decision to enter the server named "Russian battleship turkey shoot - 100% 1337 h4x". Your assumption that modding was never going to be allowed because it wasn't mentioned early on is a bit silly too. Modding does not detract from your experience, as playing on vanilla or modded servers is entirely the player's choice. It's just an optional addition to the game.
-
The only people who would quit over this nonsense are people who would otherwise quit for some silly reason anyway. The SA has always had bugs and desync issues as well as a host of other problems, and it's still not moddable, so I don't know what you're on about here. And drop the Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men shtick. The truth is that people will play what they enjoy most. I'm a huge Total War fan, but I almost never play the vanilla games beause I always end up downloading mods like Total Realism, Europa Barbarorum, Third Age or Stainless Steel. I've got high hopes that the finished SA will be a quality game, but if there are modders out there who can improve upon it further, then I'm all for it. And no, that won't mean that vanilla servers are going to be populated by zeds and tumbleweeds.
-
Explain. Because that makes absolutely no sense.
-
Why not allow it? Nobody will be forcing you to play any of those mods, will they?
-
I like the concept. The zeds are live human beings after all.
-
But then they would complain that everyone's a KOSer :p
