When playing DayZ, always assume tomorrow is wipe day.

I've gone off a ledge in the Rify wreck more than once...

I like the rope sling idea. Rope isn't that hard to find, and it makes for a nice little twist.

If I was stuck in the apocalypse, I'd do my best to stifle screams unless I'm specifically looking for help. Maybe for things like long falls a default scream would be alright, but for other situations, I'd prefer it to be an option rather than a default.

When did people start hating on the game so hard?
sachad replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Oh, I don't really mind either way, but I just like to make a distinction. In a sense, it doesn't matter who killed me and why. I'm dead, what do I care? I would never kill for lulz, but the fact that others would helps keep me on my toes. I loathe the idea of karma systems, since the only kind of karma I believe in is the one you dish out yourself. The penalization for killing with impunity should come from the environment, with gunfire attracting all sorts of unwanted attention in the form of zombies and other survivors with itchy trigger fingers. Enforcing rigid mechanics just doesn't work for me. If I want the game deciding whether I'm good or evil, I'll go play Fable (ha, just kidding, nobody plays Fable!). -
I don't get why you'd play this over the mod?

Oh, they spotted me alright. I even ran towards gunfire in hopes of finding a savior, but no one came. Then the zombies got me. And don't worry about Cherno. Let the kiddies enjoy the clear streets for now. 2015 is the Year of the Zed. -

I think we need a distinction between KOS for the lulz and killing for survival. Also, if you're going after people's gear, shooting them is generally not a good idea, since you risk ruining what you were after. Lastly, once the game becomes challenging in the survival department, how many lulzkids are still going to be playing? -
I'm not sure what weapon you have, but it's decidely not an SKS... you can manually load 10 rounds in there, and it's not even that much slower than reloading with a clip. Are you sure you haven't got a CR527?

That pretty much sums up my first day in the SA. -

Were there any pigs in the mod, Shrub? -
I've seen a few hardcore night servers in the European range.

You don't need clips to operate an SKS. All it does is make reloading a bit faster and easier.

Aye, I hope you enjoy getting torn apart by zombies when your gunshots attract anything withing a half mile radius. And who knows, that guy you shot might not even have anything, so you just invited a lot more problems rather than solving any. Or you just might run into a group that does realize there's power in numbers. -
You've got your idea for a mod right there. Skyrim meets Chernarus!
-
Good idea, but it needs to be properly implemented for it to work. Personally my vote would go to having the option of searching a surrendered player's clothes or backpack. It'd take a few seconds, like searching for apples, and then gives you the inventory of the particular slots you searched.

Take my beans. Take them all!

How do you manage your real life and DayZ at the same time?
sachad replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
What kind of jobs are you guys after that they take away your free time that much? Are you living to work, or working to live? -
God dammit, if zombies and survivors weren't enough, now I gotta deal with fucking dragons too? I WANT MY MONEY BACK
-
That's not what I meant. What I meant was, this is already a bit of a shaky premise, no point in making it any more complicated by explaining stuff at all costs. Just add the fact that zombies don't eat to the list of mysteries still surrounding the infection. Roleplay your character as someone trying to discover the truth.

I've got a busy work schedule and social obligations but I still manage to squeeze in some game time. If you're not going to play regularly, just play from time to time. Short sessions can be just as fun as long ones. Then again, if the game becomes an addiction, then maybe putting it away is the sensible choice. Still, it's something you need to decide. And remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! -
And we told you there is one. If I can be bothered, I'll try to find that topic for you later tonight. Also, and this is just my personal opinion, the less back story for this type of game, the better. I really hate it when zombie flicks bend over backwards to try and scientifically explain every detail about zombies. Part of my fear experience is not knowing what the hell is going on, and having little or no means of finding out.

Aye, feedback like this useful, and the developers do take note of it. In this video Frankie complains about graphic issues like sunlight piercing through walls and ceiling, and KOS being rampant because death has little consequence, and you don't really need others to survive. And those criticisms are being taken into account, as they are working on the game engine, and as the development process goes on, survival will become much more tricky. More and better zeds, harsher environmental penalties, scarcer loot, et cetera. And Frankie also acknowledges that fixing issues is easier said than done. -
Yeah, you're trying to argue science in regards to a rage virus epidemic.

Great comeback, Tacticoolboy.
