People who are adept at stealth are sneaky enough that wearing a backpack or not won't make a difference. I find that holding a rifle makes you stand out infinitely more than a backpack anyway. If I'm expecting gun play I hide my backpack in the woods and take only what I need to fight, that way my precious stuff doesn't get shot up or stolen if I get shot and/or killed.

Misc: Gun Bags, Shoulder Slots, Weapon Kits, Player Movement...
sachad replied to E.J.'s topic in Suggestions
I wouldn't mind needing gun slings to shoulder carry. Rope isn't that hard to find or craft, and maybe some guns could spawn with the slings attached. -
Your two first shots might hit, but for the rest you'll just be spamming the sky :p

This. For me it's not so much about whether or not the loot is spawning, but how challenging it is to get tot it. Gearing up should take time AND effort.

Radios : A Cure for Player Interaction
sachad replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in General Discussion
Well, that depends on your definition of interaction. Killing someone is also interaction. And the current deathmatch state of the game isn't due to people not being able to communicate, it's due to lack of actual survival challenges. And as TheCreeper already mentioned, giving everyone a radio off the bat is just going to lead to a lot of shenanigans. -

Radios : A Cure for Player Interaction

It should be like finding a needle in a haystack. It's the apocalypse, after all. -
That's the problem with some of today's gamers. Give them freedom, and they will give you a shitstorm of trolling. Give them freeform basebuilding, and before long Chernarus will be dotted with dick fortresses and giant middle fingers. Compare it to Besiege, which also has a fairly freeform building model. Some people build intricate, beautiful and functioning machines. Some people build rickety giants that literally fuck castles to rubble with giant mechanical cocks. I understand that DayZ is supposed to be a serious survival horror game. I'm all for giving people the ability to set up a fortified position, but let's not give them too much freedom either. Existing buildings coupled with player-made simple structures, walls, fences, traps, barricades, etc... all these things put together can make for a solid base that looks like it was built by actual apocalypse survivors, rather than grotesque constructs made by immatured turds with too much free time and no consideration for the rest of us.

You dropped the ball, that's what happened ;)

Too easy right now. You have your choice of Treasure Hunt, and Treasure Hunt: Gunslinger Edition. My one hope is that once the zombies are finished, they will tear everyone a new asshole, and make us all humble again.
-
Well, I would suggest you go and actually play the alpha and have some fun while you wait, but from the passive-aggressiveness in your post, I can deduce that that's probably not going to work out for you.

You don't instantly die when you get shot in DayZ either, unless the other guy is lucky or a good shot. There is already a 'dying' mechanism, in that your screen gradually turns black-and-white and your vision gets blurry as you lose blood or get injured or sick. Instant death happens when it should (barring bugs of course), i.e. headshots, heartshots, fatal falls, etc. Also, it's the middle of the apocalypse, society has collapsed. Medical care for severe injury or illness. is basically non-existant. How many people do you think will come back from seeing the light in those circumstances?
-
Probably lost too much blood to be able to get back up. That happened to me too.

end product - how will new players know howto xxx?

Forget tutorials, throw 'em in the deep end and take away the ladder! -
Ugh, let's not start beating another dead horse. It's absolutely meaningless to say that DayZ will remain the way it is, because it won't. Let the triggermen have their fun. They won't be laughing when the hordes come checking out what all the noise is.

Give me a sawn-off, a box of shells and some snaploaders and I'm good to go. SMGs aren't really my thing, as others said they're not much use in the laggy mess that is CQC right now, and I'm not a very good shot to begin with.

Lag during fire fights - A specific question
sachad replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
I always fire both barrels at once with a bit of spread, so long as the guy's roughly in front of you, he'll die. It's not a 100% success rate, but close enough. His stuff will most likely be ruined, but hey, so is he Back in the .40s builds, I ran into some super laggy CQC. Guy pops around the corner, framerate drops to less than one as I fire, the screen freezes for an instant, and when it recovers, the guy was dead on the ground. I didn't even see him get hit. One second he's on his feet, the next he's on the floor with a bunch of pellets stuck between his teeth. This really only works with the sawn-off though. Any other weapon, fugeddaboudit. And if you run into another guy with a sawn-off, then it gets really messy. -

Shotguns solve that problem quite handily. The very first Izh-43 I find always gets chopped and tucked in my backpack or vest if there's room, and I always keep it in hand when moving through city streets and buildings. Anything bumps into me, I just click twice and it's gone! For better results, drag your crosshairs across your targets to widen the spread and ensure maximum killingness! -
Alternatively, keep everything in your inventory 'closed' until you need something. Then you click to open your backpack, for instance, and a short timer runs according to what it is your opening. 'Opening' your jacket or your vest would take maybe a second or two, but the backpack should take a little longer, maybe in the space of 5-7 seconds. Furthermore, opening a huge backpack would require you to stand still, so no more running around while you organize your entire inventory. Also, layering would affect this timer as well. Say you are wearing a high-cap vest over a hunting jacket. Taking something from the jacket would take a little longer since you have the vest sitting in the way a bit. This removes the need for more animations, which I believe take some of time to code properly. A timer would be a much simpler fix... right?

I kinda hope DayZ becomes one of those perpetual beta things where they keep adding, removing and tweaking things as time progresses. Like, keep the experimental servers for all the testing, and only push to stable when it's been tried and tested properly.
-
Well, no... It's kinda like going to the garage complaining that they haven't painted your car when they're still working on the bodywork, even though they told you beforehand that painting comes last.

Bambis gonna bamb! -
My guess the criticism isn't your age, but how you act. Without trying to bait you, you do sound like every other complainer we've had here. "Game not optimized, blah blah, they don't fix anything ever, blah blah, game will never be finished, blah blah..." That shtick got kinda old after the first 90 million times.
