He's dead and you're not. A winner is you! I'd say there's a 99% chance he was going to drop you. And even if he was friendly, tough luck... Reaching for your gun at a military site is a declaration of war. You should either go in guns hot, or you not at all. Also, badass move! What was his gun?

And maybe if we ask nice we can get a broken bottle as an improvised melee weapon...

You had me at 'alcohol'. Even if alcohol was useless as a tool and only brought negative effects, I'd drink, because what else are you gonna do when society has collapsed around you and everyone is either a ravenous ghoul or your potential cause of death? Tip one out for the fallen comrades, and down the rest.

I'm starting to get the appeal of KOS. Yesterday I was at the NWAF camp, shot a guy coming out of a tent for no reason other than I had a sawn-off in hand and way too much ammo. As I crouch down to check his inventory I hear bullets whizzing past me so I duck into the tent and whip out my AKM which I had never fired once in the six days I've had it. To cut a long story short, I ended up in a firefight that lasted well over an hour, spanning the entire upper half of the NWAF, and involving at least eight people including myself. I even got help from two people who had come towards the gunfire. All three of us survived, we killed three people excluding the one I shot first whileat least two others got away. It really was the most fun I've had in DayZ in a long time, and all because I shot a guy for no reason.

What is the nicest thing you have done in DayZ
sachad replied to LORDPrometheus's topic in General Discussion
Gave away a an MP5 buttstock, BUIS and a 15- and 30-round clip to a guy who had an MP5 with no attachments or clips. I considered killing him for the gun, but he was just too nice. Some time later I found his body, and they'd taken the MP5 from him. I killed two people nearby, and lo and behold, one of them had the gun, so I took it and went back to my pal's body. He never came back... so I kept the gun to remember him by. And nobody took it from me, I ended up losing it in a wipe. -
Facilitating Peaceful Player Interaction: Trade & Reputation
sachad replied to GodOfGrain's topic in Suggestions
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the day we see forced morality or sanity effects is the day I incinerate my computer. These suggestions come all the time, and they get shot down all the time. -
I tried rolling with some people I met in the game, but it wasn't for me either. The constant "Oh let's go here!" and "We should go there!" starts annoying me after a while, so I usually just end up quietly sneaking off.

You can still sort through ruined ammo to recomver some of it.

Best size squad? That depends on how many rounds I have in my Mosin. One or two per head should do the trick ;)

A typical new experimental day:

Finding a pair of pristine jeans or athletic shoes, or a pristine t-shirt always makes me reach for my gun :P And don't get me started on flashlights!

Don't worry about people ragging on you for hopping. Plenty of private servers for them. I personally don't like hopping myself, which is why I rarely play on public.
-
Well, I like the idea, but I still think it'd turn some public servers into skillfarms. If there's gains to be had, no matter how small, people will try and find the best possible shortcuts to get them. On private hives, I can't see any issue with some minor skill progression. You can still try to farm skills by, say, chopping logs all day, but you'll still need to consider everyone else on the server.
-
You should come out like Gunny Hartman and give them some impromptu training at gunpoint.
-
Heh, yeah... Sometimes I cannot help but sigh when I've been in the boonies scraping together some gear on a server with no good loot left, and then reach the coast to find the Three Stooges trying to whack each other with pitchforks and crowbars...

In my opinion this game should focus on melee combat
sachad replied to Avant-Garde's topic in General Discussion
Well, I could have worded it a little better back there. What my original point was, is that blocking and basic strikes are not the same as handling firearms like a professional, or having elite survival skills. Almost everybody knows how to swing a bat, a knife or an axe at least well enough to hit a human target. I don't mind if the animations are a bit clumsy, even. Again, if I want to play Chivalry-style melee combat, I'll play Chivalry, but adding some level of basic proficiency with melee weapons won't make us all ninjas. -

Yet everyone is adept at handling firearms, bushcraft and survival techniques. It's still a video game after all. -

Nobody's asking for Jackie Chan moves. We're asking for a bit more options in melee than 'swing meekly at enemy'. That being said, I wonder if adding a sort of front kick would be a good addition. It's a simple straightforward move that almost anyone can pull off, and it helps push back zombies and other players without making it an elite ninja move. -
I've got a black high-cap vest, but it's on one of my private hive characters I think...

It'd be a rarely used option, but sometimes you just want to hurl that axe instead of swinging it and I'd like to have the choice :p -

Block, stab, left/right swing, overhead, possibly throwing. Adding these would be more than sufficient for melee weapons. -
Aye, but it has almost no recoil, it's fairly quiet, and the iron sights are dead on. Someone with good aim can turn the Sporter into a weapon of mass pwnage.

I find the prowling zombie noises infinitely more creepy than the aggro noises at this stage. Prowling = Holyshitazedbutithasn'tseenmeyetohmygodigottafindawaytosneakpastitshitshitshitdon'tletitseeme! Aggro = Sigh. Another one. *grabs axe with another long sigh*

Dicking around in Berezino.

Ugh, no quicktime events please. A simple block/parry option with some variety in attacks (swing/stab/overhead) would be nice. Like a simplified version of the combat system in Chivalry.
