Just go towards the light...

I like the idea, but replace chem lights with gas lamps...

I find them in the taverns with the little living quarters in the back. The middle and back rooms often have helmets.

You may have the wrong idea about where this game is headed. This isn't your typical fun-with-friends MMO, this is going to be something of an 'anti-game'. Forget finding your friends, think about finding a tattered raincoat and a mouldy cabbage to stay alive. The gameplay you see now is miles away from the intended end result.

Well, some melee weapons. Knives, bayonets, etc. Not sure about blunt weapons or axes. But honestly, if you cannot even find one of the things needed to kill yourself, your punishment should be staying alive. Just go stand in a random coastal town or city on a busy server, and go make a sandwich. I guarantee you it won't be more than half an hour until you die.
-
And if you want a suicide option out of thin air, ask yourself, how would that even work? Just hold your breath til you die?
-
Anything with a blade will work. I think it might even work with a screwdriver. Failing that, get yourself a stone knife. And failing THAT, drown yourself, jump off a roof, or go hug a zombie. O

Good to see the Sporter getting some appreciation... I've had a rough time findine any recently, let alone any mags...

Yeah I figured it was a bad move from the word go, as anyone on the island could just pick me off while I was swimming, I didn't expect anyone to actually respond with another flare. It was pretty cool though... I've never seen a flare shot by another survivor before. Shame it wasn't night time.

A true survivor goes commando.

Dogtags? We're not playing soldiers here (well, a lot of us are, but that's beside the point). Personally, I don't even like people finding out my name by checking my pulse. If I had an ID, I'd chuck it first chance I got.

I was standing on the little pier along the coastline facing the prison island, ready to take the swim over there. I found a flare gun and 3 flares in the dinghys, so I decided to shoot one in the air for the lulz. Much to my dismay, someone fired a flare from the island itself. I went back to Balota...

Grandma's house Datsuns and Hiluxes Log taverns Piano houses Police stations Mobile generators All good places to pick up Mosins, along with various other civilian rifles.

Once the game is finished and the mod community goes to work on it, I expect we'll see a few Epoch-like mods appear. However, for the Standalone, I wouldn't get your hopes up...

Found 2 AKMs, 2 AKS-74Us, an AK-101 and an AK-74, but not a magazine in sight... :P

RV1 RDS Dilemma: Can withstand 2 tons of weight, but collapses down from one bullet!

It was already damaged. -
It takes me under an hour usually to gather enough gear to take on anyone and anything... not sure why we'd need dedicated servers for increased loot. They're going to get overrun and picked clean by swarms of hoppers anyway. Locusts are a very fitting analogy for what will befall those servers...

Guns you can't wait to see in DayZ?
sachad replied to The Aquatic Land Walrus's topic in General Discussion
This! I'm super bummed that the SKS is no longer a reasonable choice unless you're willing to risk getting your head blown off at military loot spawns. It used to be the poor man's AKM, accurate and powerful. It was one of my favorite guns, until the ammo became impossible to find in civilian loot spawns. -
That was my first experience playing DayZ. Nighttime on a hardcore server. In a thunderstorm. I refer to it as Night of the Puckered Stars.

On the few occasions I still visit a base or airfield, I make sure I'm well geared beforehand. Main rifle (typically Mosin or Repeater), sidearm (usually a Magnum), maybe a sawn-off too. I never get tired of people complaining they get shot at bases when they 'clearly aren't a threat' because they have no gear.

KoS is hardly random, IMO. It almost always happens for the same reason: People expose themselves way too easily.

Got killed in Shakhovka, of all places... Could not get into experimental, and all my usual private hives were offline or almost empty, so I tried a new one. Spawned in Kamyshovo, but it was absolutely devoid of food and weapons, I left for Msta with only a hatchet and a battered raincoat. In Msta things picked up, I found more clothes, an axe, a drybag and enough food to last me a week, as well as a repeater and a box of buckshot. Then I went to Staroye, found a Magnum, an Izh and two boxes of .357, so I was properly armed. I decided to try Shakhovka since it has two possible truck spawns. Got there, no trucks, so I began looting. Found some more usefull stuff. Then, after confirming I was alone, I went to eat and drink. At least, I thought I was alone... Let this be a lesson never to stand still in the open, no matter how safe you think you are... Halfway through a can of peaces, I spot movement some 100 yards away between houses. I'm thinking maybe it was a zombie that had followed me from Staroye since there had been quite a few of them there... So I calmly finish my peaches, and reach for the axe to cleave its skull. My second mistake. I see the 'zombie' again. It is strafing. Zombies do not strafe. I am in mortal danger. He stops and takes a long, thin rifle off his back. I make my third and final mistake, as instead of just rushing to cover, I try to grab the loaded shotgun at my feet. I am not fast enough. Before I can even raise the thing, I can hear the bullet impacting my skull. And everything goes black. And as I lay there dead, he approaches me. "I have been following you since Kamyshovo, friend... you need to mind your surroundings." I will, sir. I most definitely will.

Duct tape can be used to patch raincoats, drybags, boots, etc. And you can now restrain people with it as well.
