I like that idea ^^ it's fairly simple and practicle for new players ^^ that's true (I don't need the map either) but when the game hits beta and later full release, then there will be many people trying it, and it would be better if they had at least a bit ingame help to find out where they are ^^ and to expand on the map-improvements a bit further (since I like the concept) I would suggest, that we get a "look at map"-option without dragging it into the inventory and hotbar, so you can share tactical plans via the maps marking-system more easily ^^

I gotta say, that I agree with BioHaze, because I see DayZ as a Zombie survival simulator! And yes I know the word "simulator" is probably not very accurate...But DayZ is the closest to that since it has a great emphasis on realism, and when I play a game that tries to be as realistic as possible, then I normaly it play as realistic as possible as well. (mostly at least ^^) Let's be honest: When a zombie apocalypse would accour and you would be one of the few survivors, do you really think you would participate in gunfights? Probably not, but then again, in reality there wouldn't be many people that would kill other people without an extremely good reason since every survivor could be a valuable companion ^^ I can understand that this update is a bit harsh, since you really have to fight zombies and hunger to survive and I think this will get a little better since I've heard that persistence is not functioning entirely as intended (which is one of the causes for so few loot) but I personaly like it quite a bit, since it's a real challenge but absolutely possible to survive, when you know more of the map, than the coast and the NWAF ^^ Stay save in Chernarus ^^

My idea on how to make in-game maps worth looking at.
fujitaka replied to Rags!'s topic in Suggestions
If you would have read my post to the end, you would have noticed, that thats exactly what I mean, and that I don't see any progress in discussing something like this. Thats why I will give you another reason why I don't agree with your secound suggestion: It makes the game to easy! Why do you think dynamic events are dynamic? Why do you think there are that much more possible heli-crashsites than actual ones? Because you're not supposed to know where they are before you find 'em. And because it would make the game much more easy than it should be! This game is about problems! And about finding solutions to these problems, with your brain and skills! And I wouldn't call looking at a map a skill... I don't wright this because I don't wan't your Idea in the game (even if that's the case). I wright it because I wanna give my opinion to your suggestion, because thats why we have to wright our suggestions in a forum. To discuss them! And it's ok that you dissagree with my opinion ^^ It would be very hyrocriticle of me to trying to shut you up because you dissagree with my disagreement. But it seems to me, that you're just trying to argue with me, so I eventually agree with you, whtich is absolutely not the purpose of a suggestion thread, because it doen't matter if I agree with you or not! The dev-team has to agree or disagree with you, and just like I'm trying to do here, they will have to discuss it with criticle thinking! Just because someone has something to say against it, doesn't always mean it will be dismissed as a whole, but that it needs to get more thought, and thats why we discuss it beforehand! So do me a favor and reply to my criticle thinking about you'r suggestion in this post and not how the game is supposed to be in your or my opinion, because thats for behomia to decide not for us! As long as I don't get a constructive answer (positive or negative) I will not answer to this post since it will just lengthen the threat and ultimatively give the devs a pain in the ass to read thrugh all this unnecessary stuff... Thank you and stay save in Chernarus ^^ -

It seems like you don't get what "as realistic AS POSSIBLE" means,,, That means that they wanna make a game, that's as realistic as it can get, without making it a shitty game... So of course zombies and players respawn... Wouldn't really be fun when they woudn't ^^ And that's the point that SFRGaming and I are trying to make! And it is a no-brainer that the technoligy doesn't allow them to make a 100% realistic game (that probably nobody would buy) because I'm not even sure if humankind will ever be able wo create a "game" thats 100% realistic, since that requires far better hardware than a keyboard, a mouse and a screen to play on! P.S.: By the Way: I don't see why this discussion about how you or I think bohemia want to design their game is relevant in a suggestion thread... -

It's true that you cannot scribble on it freely as you say it, but I personaly don't thin that that's nessecary (but maybe I'm alone with this opinion ^^) yes it is persistent ^^ I Gave my map, that i marked green mountain with the note "trading post" on to a player I encountert on DayZRP one time, and he could read it just as I could, even though I wrote it about a week before that encounter, so believe me, it is persistent in that way ^^ Yeah I see what you mean and it's not a bad idea, but I think after a while, I would have to choose between like 5 maps from 5 different servers or the loot that I just found and I'm sure you can understand that I would choose the loot. And after one or two characters having to do this, i would simply just stop gathering more than one map... At least in terms of public servers, for privat hive servers, that would be a way to go, but I don't think that it is worth it to configure it differently for privat and public hive servers, since time is money and stuff... But it's a cool Idea none the less ^^ I'm sure someone could wright a mod to implement that, as soon as mods are a thing in satndalone ^^ -

I think what he means is that there are certain elements that you cannot change for realisms sake ^^ otherwise there would be a need tor toilets in this game XD But the devs have stressed more than enough that they wanna make a game thats as realistic as possible and the players clearly like that, so thats why I'm asking ^^ -

hi ^^ I've got some little problems with these suggestions: 1. you CAN wright and "scribble" onto the map XD You just have to dobble-klick where you wanna mark something and then you can choose from a wide variety of markers (and flags) in many colour-variations along with a note to this marker (whitch is optional of course) ^^ And you can give these maps to other people and they can look at it, while on other maps, there's nothing you have written onto yours ^^ 2. How do you explain that someone knows about these events before or very shortly after they happen? that doesn't seem very realistic... I also see some improvement-possibilities, but other than having the townsnames in russian (instead or alongside the western letters) and the option to open it without having to drag it into your inventory I got to say, that the map is already a very useful and handy tool ^^ Nice post any way ^^ -
Hey guys ^^ I know that the ingame-map isn't really usefull at the moment, since there is no real reason to wright anything onto the map (with persistence not functioning correctly and stuff...), but i think it could be much more usefull with just two small improvements ^^ 1. Since this is a map normaly sold to tourists before the apocalypse started, it would be much more accurate when the townsnames were written in western and cyrillic letters! I mean, when I go to say Russia and I wanna cruise around, I wouldn't like it when the map can tell me how the townsnames are pronounced, but not how I can get there, since I cannot read the cyrillic roadsighns that would lead me there... And it would be better for new players as well, since they most likely cannot read cyrillian letters, so they could search for a map ingame and figure out there location much better with the roadsighns. Believe me, I was pissed when i started the game first time and couldn't figure out where I am, even though I had a map and stood in front of a roadsighn... (that was a long time ago ^^) 2. Give us an option to show people the maps without them having to drag it into there inventory, putting it in to the hotbar and pressing the respective key... I see a lot of potential in the map, since you can set a wide variety of markers with different colours and even notes right next to them. So the moment that persistence is fixed and basebuilding is implemented, this will be a very usefull tool to plan strategies, how to approach other groups bases, but it's just exhausting if every single groupmember has to go throu all these steps, just to know what the fuck the groupleader is talking about. I would recommend to implement an option when rightklicked to "open the map" or "look at map" so one member can essencially just throw the map on the ground and everyone can look at it at the same time and listen what the leader has to say in regards of strategy. That's pretty much it for me ^^ Stay save in Chernarus ^^

This is an intressting idea, but its pretty hard to implement... What you say about the ammo as currency is definitely right and I won't argue with that, but they can't just throw cigarettes in and expect the players to use it as trading-items... These items need good reasons to be used. The suggestion that cigarettes could stop hunger for a short time would be a start, but i don't think i would use them, since there are (and will be) enough food to find and hunt. in case of alcohol, I really can't see what positive effects it would bring me, when I'm drunk in the apocalypse. Coffee woulld be a good idea, thogh! Since coffee has the effect of a short-term starmina boost, it would provide a good reason to use it, and the side-effects aren't a huge problem, since you simply get tired after the effect wore off, or maybe worst case you get addicted. (which isn't a really big deal in case of coffee) In an RP perspective it's certainly something i would add, but the majority of DayZ-Players aren't RP-ers, and even then they think before they use. I mean, I'm an RP Player and a smoker IRL but i wouldn't use cigarettes in game, since there are much more negative effects than positive ones. (addiction, increased stamina loss, higher visability at night ect.) I think we need something that is usefull, but not OP, so it wouldn't really matter when we trade it. Like I said, coffee would be a good Idea, but that about it... But I'm sure some brilliant mind will come up with more and even better Ideas for this kind of stuff ^^ See ya in Chernarus ^^ Stay save! P.S.: Dinking acohol tincture has an effect...you get sick... so don't drink alcohol in the Zombie-Apokalypse, kids ^^

Same problem here! I've played with a friend just about half an hour ago and after a short dinner-break, we both weren't able to start DayZ at all... No message or anything. It just showed the normal "Preparing to launch DayZ" and after that... nothing! Even the colour of my avatar whitch switched to greed (in-game) switched back to blue (online) after a few secounds... Hope that gets fixed sa soon as possible... Stay safe in Chernarus and have a nice day anyway ^^
-
Yes i know, but i tried it after they were up again XD
-
Hey guys ^^ I didn't find a topic with this problem, so i opened one myself ^^' I downloaded the latest experimental patch (0.51 #3), but when i tryed to play, i couldn't get the serverlist so show me any experimental servers... all the other servers are listed, but not the experimental ones... Since i saw Septic Falcon playing experimental, i can say that it must be a problem of my computer/connection, but i have no idea, what i can do... The secound 0.51 patch was no problem at all, but since the third patch is out, i cannot play experimental anymore... Hope someone can help me, so i can try the truck out myself ^^ thanx, good luck and see ya in chernarus ^^
-
well... you can, but the problem is that you still can hear it in the same radius, just not as good... and i don't need to understand what he/she sais to track down a position of someone that talks...
-
Hey guys ^^ Wouldn't it be great, when we had an option to regulate the voice-volume? At the momentm its pretty bad to comunicate with teammates in battle, because everytime you talk ingame, you give away your position, because the radius of the sound of your voice is always the same. I Thought about something like Caps Lock + Mouse Wheel to turn the voliume up or down ^^ Would defenitely make sense in terms of realism, since you probably wouldn't shout at your teammate, that stands right next to you, while a group of enemies tries to find you. And it would encourage more people to team up with people they meet in Chernarus. Hope you consider this as a possibilaty of new implementations ^^ See you in Chernarus, folks ^^
-
i just figured it out by myself... [/sarcasm] and thanx for the extremely helpful answer... for everyone who has this problem, here is the (probable) solution: go to: C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\DayZ\DayZ.cfg and set the resolution to your pc's resolution... (yes i know... pretty stupid problem) so thats it ^^
