Heroic Actions(why must we all bandit?)
angel_eyes42 replied to Theheroicbandit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Yes. The people that KOS are ass hats. That is not a fact, but it is an opinion shared by most of the DayZ community that doesn't kill on sight. Not saying that makes it a fact, but you can't really call me out for calling people who go around killing everyone for no reason ass hats. I am not one of those people that says we should make people play certain ways. I stay away from servers that say "peaceful! pve!" or so on and I hate it when servers actually attempt to enforce rules against people that do kill on sight. It's still being a douche-bag. 2. In this case, it kind of is. Yes, there are not zombies in real life, yes, many parts of the game are indeed fictional. But, this game is very, very realistic in many ways. I'm not saying if you KOS or act like a crazy person in the game, you are a serial killer in real life, I'm just saying it saddens me the way many people act in the game and I fear the way people would act in real life. I'm not stating a fact, I'm saying I'm disappointed. 3. Indeed, it has! I have made one friend that I now play games with and talk to on a regular basis. I have also done trading and teamed up with people and come across many interesting and friendly situations in the game. Though, I have had more negative situations. How do you think all of those Youtubers (Mr. Moon, Frankie, Syndicate, etc...) get into good situations? Granted, they are better at the game than me, and are better at being safe when coming across other players, but they still don't just go up to people and blow their fucking heads off without so much as a word. 4. Nah, it did. Read above. I have made a really great friend and have teamed up with several really awesome people just from not being an ass hole to everyone I came across. 5. It probably is, but I am indeed a judgmental person most of the time, so no surprise there. Sorry if you KOS all the time and I offended you. ;) But, I can't help but wonder, WHY are these people killing me? The other day, I was killed whilst geared up to the teeth, and re-spawned. Completely fresh start. I had nothing. Started looting some buildings, shot in the leg from ~70m. Very calmly, "hey. whoever did that... I literally just spawned. Could you not shoot me? Thanks." Shot again. Dead. ........ WHY? I almost have to wonder if they are afraid. Are they literally just so bad at the game that they are afraid I will somehow magically kill them? What is their reasoning behind it? That is why I draw judgmental conclusions, because I feel that people KOS a lot of the time, out of fear and cowardliness. I must say, I can be slightly hypocritical. This is a trying game, and I have at times, been KOS'd so many times that I have decided to do so myself. Though I can count the amount of times I have killed another player on one finger. It's difficult to play the game as a hero, who saves people, gives away their guns, and makes friends. It's pretty damn easy to just kill every single person you come across without even attempting to talk. As I said, this game needs people who KOS. I love interesting situations, both good and bad. But KOSing is not INTERESTING. DayZ would be a pretty horrible game if everyone were to just KOS. Hostage situations, stealing blood, making friends, teaming up against clans, is what makes this game interesting. Sorry if you don't agree with me (no really, I truly am sorry, what's it like?). (JUST KIDDING, I'M KIDDING, that was mean.) Edit: One quick note on your last sentence, "how the person behaves, not because they shot you". I, personally, have to disagree. I much rather come across somebody who is annoying, funny, stupid, think of any adjective you find annoying besides homicidal, than somebody that shoots me. I might be weird, I probably am, but that's just me! -

Awesome! Sounds perfect for me. I will most likely be playing on your server very soon, though I usually play Hardcore, so I'm gonna wait for a devastating death of my HC character before I switch to this. :) -

What about restart times? The only thing keeping me from playing on this server is that it now seems to restart every 2 hours (according to Gameservers page). If you have it restarting every 4 then my buddy and I would love to play on this server regularly! It looks like the best one out there! And I love that you want to incorporate a day/night cycle eventually! Thanks. -
Bump on my day/night question?

Are you serious? I didn't know this for sure. That is absolutely ridiculous. Like I said in my previous post on this topic, server hopping is not an issue for me, combat logging is. But I also dislike the way that the vanilla DayZ mod handles combat logging. I like the way Epoch does it. Anytime you want to abort, you get a 10 second timer, unless you are actually in combat (or in a safe zone or something). It works really well and is way better than the vanilla mod, like I said. The standalone really needs to get something like this and they should just get rid of the stupid 99 second timer once and for all. Server hopping is no big deal. Ghosting might be an issue for some people, but I think we can all agree that combat logging is the bigger issue.

Having played Epoch (or Overpoch, whatever) for a few days now, I feel like I can elaborate on my "opinion" on this matter. I hate the god-mode zones, mainly because if I'm running around in the woods and I am 1. dying, 2. being tailed by a player, or 3. in need of looking at my map or organizing my inventory, I am going to see if there is a trader or some other safe zone near me. Once I get there, I'm home free. I'm safe! And that's unrealistic, and stupid. Also, today in fact, I witnessed some pretty shitty people who followed this guy (fresh spawn, just bought some guns) right outside of the god-mode zone and shot him the second he walked out. He had absolutely no chance. He couldn't do anything about it, but wait in the safe-zone for god knows how long until they decided to leave. God-zones are stupid and unrealistic and lead to ass-holes being able to kill people super easily. I am all for traders in the game and "safe" zones that allow players, and, as suggested earlier, nerfed NPC's, to protect. But god-mode zones are a no-no, in my opinion. I am enjoying Epoch (or, again, Overpoch) immensely but the god-mode zones (along with traders apparently having infinite inventory and money) is kinda breaking the immersion factor for me.

Where are all the DAY/NIGHT cycle servers?!?
angel_eyes42 replied to angel_eyes42's topic in General Discussion
I don't mean to bump my old topic simply to get people to read, but would it be a good idea to post the couple of servers that I have found that offer a day/night cycle and 4hr+ restarts? I have 3 or 4. The only thing keeping me from posting them is that I have seen people say not to post them on the forums because it might lead to an influx in hackers and trolls. Or I could PM anyone interested. Again, I have a list of 3 or 4 hardcore, day/night, 4 hr restart, SA servers. Thanks. -
It's not a threat, but ok. (And technically it is an opinion, but I understand what you mean, I should have debated it.) I just don't like the idea of god-mode safe-zones because I don't feel like there should be any kind of completely safe area in the map for a game like DayZ. Also, I am sure, just as in mods like Epoch, people would camp outside of said safe-zones and exploit players coming and going. What I like the idea of, though, is trader cities and areas that are guarded by the players. I would love Epoch trading cities without the god-mode, it being up to the players to defend it. Sorry I didn't explain my blunt "no". I am simultaneously following another topic similar to this one and explained myself there, I just neglected to do so here. Thanks.

2 DayZ SA copies, 2 Steam Acc., one computer
angel_eyes42 replied to BrianWithAY's topic in Troubleshooting
I dunno. It is indeed an interesting issue. Not sure what's causing it. I just suggested a new Windows side because it's a quick and easy (if only temporary) fix. What!? Ok, dude. There has to be something weird causing this. So, you have two Windows sides, with Steam and DayZ installed, and you are logged into one and your brother is logged into the other, and when you play DayZ on your side, it shows his character in the main menu? ...Have you tried playing on servers? ... It very well could just be showing his character there but really yours is the one being used. That happens when switching between hardcore and regular servers, it shows the other character. Try playing on a server, if you haven't. If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you dude, unless I am missing something or you aren't explaining everything perfectly. -
You explained that very well, thanks. I now understand the idea behind a safe zone and so on, and see how it could expand the game. I think that's the problem with DayZ for a lot of players now; after playing for a while, you don't know what to do. I like what you're saying there. But, I just don't know about having it be a "PvP=off" zone, you know? Maybe a safer zone becasue there are player guards (but again, it's up to the players to keep it safe), but not a god-mode area. I dunno, but again, I thank you for explaining the idea of a trading zone. I am actually super excited to see something like that now! :D *beans4u!* (and now, I kinda wanna go try out Epoch......... hah!)

Yeah, you need to use two different Windows sides. -

And when you say your brother's account shows up, do you mean his character appears in the DayZ main menu? Or... -
Yasss. I like.
-
No. This would make the game boring for a lot of people. And it's not really what DayZ is about (surviving...). Go play Epoch. But it sucks, mostly.
-
I quite like this idea, mainly because you have it pretty fleshed out and have abstained from "let's just turn DayZ into Minecraft". That's why I hate most mods of the DayZ mod. Epoch, I believe, is the one with base building and trading and safe zones and what not, correct? And I will never play it because it simply ruins my idea of what DayZ is. But this, this is pretty neat.
