Benefits and Disadvantages of Carrying Two Long Guns
5p4rtan (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
So, I've been carrying 2 primaries for some time now. A Mosin with LRS and before I got my AK101, an SKS. Recently I've been debating on dropping the Mosin due to the fact that Zombies have been becoming more of a threat, therefore I have been weighing the benefits and disadvantages of carrying two primaries. Pros: Different Ammo types means if I run low or out of one I have the other to fall back on. Mosin is superior for long range encounters as the AK101 (or any other semi auto rifle) is better for CQB and can hold its own out to medium range Versatility Cons: Less inventory space as you are carrying two different kinds of ammunition Have to drop your weapon whenever you have to use something that requires your hands. (Melee'ing a zombie, drinking, eating or applying first aid of some sort) Players may perceive you as hostile seeing you run around with a weapon out all the time I guss it comes down to; does the benefits of the two primaries for different situations outweigh the burden of constantly having to drop one on the ground to use anything else...... The big reason that I'm hesitant of dropping my Mosin in b/c I have accumulated so much ammo for it (200+ rounds) as the AK101 i have 4 full magazines plus 40 extra loose rounds (AK 101 is fully kitted too. Pristine PSO scope, pristine rail hand gaurd with pristine flash light and bipod and folding buttstock) I guess this could all be avoided if the devs put in a (tactical)sling that would enable you to carry a primary on your back as well as hang from the front. What do you all think? -

Benefits and Disadvantages of Carrying Two Long Guns

I hardly ever use a firearm to down zeds. Always melee them down (which is why i hate having to drop a weapon to pull out my melee). The last FNX I had literally broke in my hands. I pulled it out to shoot a zed and it hit me and it wouldn't fire. Melee'd him down and looked at the pistol in my inventory. Yep, ruined everything on it. Red dot, silencer, flash light... everything ruined with one hit from a zombie while it was in my hands. -
It's RoF is higher than that of the AKM. Its default attachments (plastic handguard and buttstock) are supposedly more accurate than that of the AKM.

A: Pistols have a limited capacity compared to a magazine fed rifle. B: Everytime I carried a pistol it got ruined by 1 hit froma zombie.... I swear they're made by Fisher Price C: I'm not a fan of their accuracy at anything past 20 meters...... D: Stopping power is lacking (shotguns and magnums are better, but shotguns accuracy and limited ammo are extremely disadvantageous. Magnums capacity is limited) -
Has the Mosin 9130 been nerfed?

I still carry the Mosin for the use of long range shots and scouting purposes, but once I head into a city the mosin gets shouldered and the SKS comes out. I've still 1 shot people and knocked them unconcious/killed them with the Mosin. -
Surf the clans that are looking for members. Meet up with them and start rolling with them. Things are a lot less scary with people with you, which is why I rarely run with anyone. I like the lone wolf feeling. Once you've done it long enough you start to become acutely aware of your environment. I love stalking people in DayZ. You're not a true lonewolf until you have handcuffed someone w/o them noticing it until it's to late :) Above all, be patient. The lonewolf never rushes into situations w/o having a backup plan for their back up plan. Take a good long while to scope out high player traffic areas. And never trust anyone.

I can tell you from firsthand experience last night that the bottomless magazine hack still lives. Totally naked bambi running around with a fully kitted M4 just holding down the trigger at NEAF. I saved a squad of guys he was unloading on with a well placed Mosin shot. Talked with the guys I saved, checked his body and sure enough hacked magazine. I took the M4 and dropped it in some bushes off in the woods so no one else would taint themselves with this. I've said it before and i'll say it again. If hacking isn't cracked down upon with extreme prejudice, then this game will flop before it ever gets a chance to take off.

Taking the time to assemble a full map of Chernarus should give a little more advantage than it currently does. Right now there is no advantage of having a fully assembled in game map of chernarus as you can get more from the map on http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus Allow us to get a range reading between two points. A "you are here" marker. maybe add the compass (if you have it in your inventory) to the overlay of the map with an indication of where your currently pointing... etc.. Small things that could make it worth the time it takes to fully assemble a map of Chernarus.
-
And why would 99% of the player base do that? Might as well just remove the maps altogether as right now its not worth the trouble and inventory space to collect and assemble them. What you suggest would be giving the player a noticeable disadvantage next to the player that uses the out-of-game map.

Cool story bro.

I lost my 3 week old character last night to rocks.....again..... Climbing up west side of Pik Kozlova to get a good look on what's coming east..... catapulted 100 meters and died.

If you really want to be a hero in this game you need to learn a little human psychology first. How they talk, how they approach you, how they react to you etc.. Once you learn how to "feel" people out, you can start being a hero. Also, stand your ground. Stand your ground does not mean do not back away from people. Always keep your distance. What I mean by saying stand your ground is, if you tell someone to do something, they better listen or suffer the consequences. People will take advantage of your kindness, and ultimately crack your skull if you're overly kind and not willing to pull the trigger when it's necessary to do so. You tell someone to stay back and they keep coming towards you, then you put a bullet in them. Plain and simple. My kindness only goes as far as how well people listen to me. I tell them to keep their distance once and only once and I make that clear to them right from the beginning. You follow my advice and I guarantee you that you won't get melee'd down by a couple bambis again.

Were their names Mr.Moon, Chow and Dimitri by any chance?

1.) Trust NO ONE. 2.) Avoid coastal cities and Airfields (if you need/want gear from these locations just camp the popular entrances and exits to said coastal cities and Airfields) 3.) Keep your head on a swivel at all times (know your angles!) 4.) Avoid shooting your weapon if at all possible. If not possible, do not sit in 1 place for more than 2-3 minutes after firing your weapon. 5.) Avoid rocky hillsides. I have died more to rocks than to people by far.

Not sure how I feel about a grenade launcher. It needs to be super rare, with the ammunition being even more rare.

Did the removed M4A1(M4) in update 0.45

You're the type of person I love running into at the airfields. Especially when you're still in the login phase where you're just sitting their like a deer in the headlights. That's when I like to have you login looking at the end of my barrel. -
Or if you want to be a dick, you can drop it in the middle of the road and just snipe the people stopping to pick it up :)
-
AKM for the above reason alone. Once you have the AKM there would be no reason to ever goto another military base other than PvPing. The M4 does have more accurate automatic fire though. The AKM's recoil on auto fire is a bit excessive.
-
AKM aimed accuracy is very accurate. He may have tried to hip shoot you? Or he was ADS without holding his breath and this caused extreme weapon sway as introduced in the last patch.

anyone having problems with the AKM?(accuracy)

This is a known issue. Saw it in the bug reports where bullets are not going through the open doors on the police station. -
Some props to the devs here. I know you guys probobly don't get much, figured I would give ya's a +1 as it's deserved. So I'm coming back from NWA after a loot and scoot and I come into the town of Stary Sobor. I get to the south end of town and I notice... cows! Lots of them! So i'm all "wow that's pretty cool" then I see zombies attacking them as they start running all over the place trying to escape the undeath carnage that the digital world of DayZ has unleashed on them. I take pity on the cows, throw caution to the wind and unsling my trusty Mosin. Take aim, (get reminded of the extreme weapon sway introduced in this recent patch) and start saving the cows from becoming zombie food. In total i saved 5 cows and killed 3 zombies. Nice immersion there. Came out of the town with a (albeit small) sense of accomplishment.

Thank goodness. Caught a player by surprise and had him at "gun point" but my gun was swaying so much at POINT BLANK RANGE that if he had decided to give me cause to actually shoot that I wasn't too confident in the accuracy... But he listened and we both went on our ways with him being none the wiser of the complete lack of accuracy I would have had with the amount if sway I was experiencing.

Too difficult/frustrating in the beginning?

Actually, the setting of the game is 10 years after the first Zombie outbreak. -
Most binoculars don't have any reticles in them...... And a good pair of binoculars with good clarity glass can run upwards of $1000-$3500......
