Are dogs worth 2 months of development time?
trauma.au replied to MasterSith's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If they can; Draw zombies away from an area (lure them away then lose them and come back to me). Defend me if I go down. Silently kill 1 or 2 zombies. Silently track near by players. Break a zombies legs with minimal risk to the dog. Draw zombie agro off me. Be quiet when I tell it to. Then, I would be keen. -
Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
trauma.au replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Of course it should be removed. Benefits: None. (Used purely to grief, zombies walk through it, cars run over it.) Cost: Critical gfx glitch that has greeted tens of thousands of new players and has been shown in interviews/vids worldwide. Easiest cost/benefit analysis of all time. -
It's just a type of civilian. One of the ones used for the infected.

They do only take 5 slots.

Can we get a 1.7.2.6 that removes the dead bodies and nothing else. The damn graphics bug is so annoying.
-
Prob because Six is not dedicated to Dayz, handles a lot of other mods.
-
Just updated but I'm not going to bother even trying to get on after reading this. Side not for Rocket. When you have an issue as bad as the current gfx glitches you don't wait a few weeks to put a patch out, you hotfix it (hot meaning it was fast) and you exclude all other changes, planned or otherwise from the hotfix. Take it or leave it but as I see that big player counter adding thousands of players who will all be greeted by this critical bug I can't help but wonder what you're thinking.

Hackers - A server Admin's viewpoint
trauma.au replied to gtok's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Agreed, this needs to go passworded to survive at this point. My group has encountered around 8 script kiddies in the last 2 night, none of us are bothering anymore. Passwords or GTFO. -
Awesome, keen to be able to go to miltary areas again.

Rangefinder distance-display always shows 0
trauma.au replied to Frotty's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You were too close to an object, go into the open and stand up to be sure there is no obstruction. I currently have them and they work fine as they always have in Arma. If no go post screen shots. -
Also confirming for Stary tents. 1.7.2.4/95417. Worst I've ever seen it, I did check the area for those damn useless (unless you're a griefer) wire traps. None there.

Should armed vehicles be added to Dayz?
trauma.au replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just look at what people did with the last lightly armed vehicle in game. There is your answer. -
What's the rationale behind this change? I'd just rather not have to reload the game with out DayZ mod to access the editor/my firing range.

To Admins/Clans who cant deal with getting their camps raided
trauma.au replied to Donkamints's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I came across a blown up bus (my teams from the previous day) and all the trees were knocked down around it, which means one thing, explosives. There was a few bodies around as well and then I noticed a player with an AS50 come to loot them, I killed him with my SAW and then a while later we found a camp with a bus in perfect condition and full fuel and all the tents had high end gear in them. About 10 mins later I had all my gear simply removed from my body apart from my pack and toolbelt, just like when you use a ghillie and end up swimming. Though I of course did not risk my gear with one nor did I have one, also I did not end up swimming in the ground. Moments later my legs were broken, no shots. no one near. I disconnected. About 15 seconds later I get back in and there is an ATV and someone is looting the body of the well geared player I killed about 10-15mins before. My mate and I waited a while before going back in and there was no one around, looted some more stuff from the camp, put a grenade under the bus and took the ATV... the ATV was in perfect condition with full fuel just like the bus was. All very very sus and it was on US 265. -
There was a system that changed the player model of your character to a bandit (german KSK was used). This happened when your humanity dropped below 100 from memory and you of course lost humanity when you murdered people. So you could always tell who was a bandit, hence shoot on sight became a norm. The system had a lot of bugs and eventually Rocket pulled it, the underlying humanity system is still active though. Once it was removed it was going to go one of two ways, either people would consider it a clean slate and be (somewhat) trusting of others or they were going to be paranoid of everyone because they don't know if the player they have come across used to be a bandit or not. It was the latter.

Best moment in Dayz ruined by a server restart
trauma.au replied to BuzzBurridge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not unarmed people on the coast, no. -
Have not read all posts but will give my brief answer. To start off there was a lot of teamwork because players didn't know what to do, they feared the zombies and sought strength in numbers. As people learned that the zombies pose little threat they felt safe enough to go it alone and sought a challenge else where, que Banditry. Some less significant drivers are that for a fair while in game voice chat was broken, so there was almost no direct communication when players crossed paths, outcome should be obvious. The bandit model experiment was the first time the 'shoot-on-sight' mentality became a norm, after the bandit model was removed the mentality was already set in stone and that's pretty much it. With out some strict control mechanics it will not change.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
trauma.au replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only early on, in starter towns when faced with other starters, I'm sure if I came across someone a bit geared at a starter town I'd be shot. -

trauma.au replied to BuzzBurridge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Prob reset because there was a chopper griefing unarmed people. Says a lot about you guys. -
I've found it twice recently and both times it was bugged, I can see the rifle laying on the ground and it shows in my scroll manu but it can't be picked up and used, in gear menu it has a quantity but no name/icon/info.
