Instant KO, resulting in death.
trauma.au replied to Psycho (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It's not a bug, rather a bad mechanic and there are other threads about this. -
Forth server I joined (US2) since update took a bit to get in but was otherwise fine. Until the server itself went down :(
-
I've joined 3 servers since this update, all broken. First one sat at receiving data for a long time then went in fast, second two moved past receiving fast and hung at waiting for servers response for a long time and then put me into the wilderness with no gear (essentially killing my character). Now the first server that did go in worked but it still had the zombie spawn issue from last version, there were no zombies spawning in chernogorsk and only about 200 server wide for a full server (50 slot). The second time I ended up in the wilderness unable to move I respawned and was again put in the wilderness but I was able to move. I could only see my character in first person freelook, 3rd showed nothing. The character model was the new bandit skin. I'm at 2500 humanity.
-
This is happening again tonight, um dallas and NY (can't remember numbers) servers not spawning zombies. Edit: On dallas 1 atm, server is full with less than 100 zombies, it is spawning some zombies but not often, I have moved through two towns and nothing has spawned.
-
I like it.
-
I'd like that, but with a min range from tent needed and a tent respawn cool down, like 30 mins.

I've had the well known issue of losing all my gear from my pack but there are two more issues. First is that I did not swap back to survivor when I hit 1000 humanity again, worse still is that when it did finally swap at just shy of 1700 humanity it did so while I had around 30 zombies after me. Given that I was in this situation when the screen went to the requesting character data thing I disconnected to avoid being killed. (note: disconnect while model swapping is fine, I had to do it when I became a bandit because I had zombies on me then too and it worked out fine.) Second, upon rejoin I was in the wilderness and under fire from another player stuck there. I disconnected again and went to another server, this time I rejoined in the ocean surrounded by other character also in the ocean. So yea this was a pretty bad series of bugs to say the least. Personally I'd like to see this system removed until the model can be swapped with out a black screen and wait time. Date/Time: May 1, 1:55pm AEST What happened: Model swap initiated at bad time, forced to disconnect. Where you were: Farm house a few hundred meters SSW of Vybor. What you were doing: I was herding a large group of zombies for a hand grenade kill, the hand grenade failed to go off. Seconds later the model swap initiated. *Current installed version: 1.5.2 *Server(s) you were on: NZ server, then US 4. *Your system specs: i5 2600k, 8gb ram, GTX560ti, X-Fi titanium pro. *Timeline of events before/after error: Kiting larger pack of zombies from lopotino to a farm house. After disconnect, I reconnected in the wilderness, changed server, reconnected in the ocean.

Standardize Servers + Lock First-Person View
trauma.au replied to naizarak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not going to get into the old and very very tired debate about 1st/3rd in arma but I will say that I'd stop playing if it were locked to 1st. I've just about lost the will as is. Standardized settings would be fine though. -
So I just noticed that the Dallas 2 server provided by Legion is passworded, and has 12 players in game... all legion players. Screenshot Now on one hand it's their server and they can do as they please with it, but on the other hand they can farm gear/vehicles and then use said gear on other open servers or just remove the password when they are ready to. So how does this sticky situation play out? Can it be made so that players on passworded servers won't be saved? Just to be clear I'm not calling out or naming and shaming the legion guys, any server provider can do this and I think this has come up before. In fact I thank them for providing a much needed server, though it's still a serious balance issue.

Stun system to force bandits to loot survivors instead of just killing them
trauma.au replied to anothermartz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So what you're saying is that in addition to being insta-killed by death matchers all the time' date=' you also want zombies to insant kill you as well? Or that nobody ever pays attention to each other because they're too busy fighting zombies to be able to do anything else? [/quote'] Somewhere in between. I'll give you an example from last night, I was in the firestation at NW airfield and had another player creeping up on me. I put a 12g slug into the side of his head knowing that it would pull several zombies in the area to me, if I believed the zombies were a real threat to me I would not have taken the shot. Players need a challenge to stay interested, play enough and you work out that zombies are not a challenge, but players are. Not rocket science at that point. There will of course still be a time/place when people will fell that they can get away with a player kill, also harder zombies will encourage players to team up and this will 'spread' trust through the player base. -
Possible to use Shacktac's fireteam hud?
trauma.au replied to That Lamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty sure that mod requires you to be in a group, currently there is no grouping system. -
Stun system to force bandits to loot survivors instead of just killing them
trauma.au replied to anothermartz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Or just making it so zombies are more of a threat than players... -
Made a new bandit skin for you guys
trauma.au replied to Mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pro work Mojo. -
RNG's do have their place, for example the loot spawning is an RNG of sorts... will it be cans or NVG's? That's a good and believable use for it. When that RNG is the decider in whether or not you die to some trivial threat and along with it hours of effort... yea that's just bad design.
-
You don't get it, there is no mechanic to convey what you are saying, I agree you can trip, you can get jumped and bitten from behind but when there is no good way to communicate it in game you need to make a believable substitute, a random number generator is not a believable substitute.
-
I've had it as well, before some dog killed me while I had a pack of zombies after me. It says you need the engineer pack to do stuff with it.
-
It really doesnt. What I'm saying is just that it is your very own fault if you even let it come to that. The risk of getting knocked down can be avoided by keeping your distance to the zeds. So its not like you dont have control over it. So I'm meant to avoid easy to kill zombies that only have a poor game mechanic on their side at all times? This last KO I had I was running backwards while killing several zombies in front, I've played enough to learn how to make them unable to hit you on the move in the open... didn't see or hear the once sprinting at me from the left though, 1 hit down I go. A blurred screen, staggered, slowed etc. would have been fine, but put on the ground just so you can watch a group of zombies tick away at all your health is nothing but frustrating, games are not meant to piss you off. Then those times that you have just a little bit of time to save yourself after he 'wakes up' and you get the triple animation thing...... frustrating.
-
The realism at all costs angle eh? Ok well I want the rocks that I trip over modeled into the game, I also want the zombies on top of me holding onto me while a kick and thrash for my life. When I'm not moving I'd them to stop KO'ing me through walls and then eating me while I'm out... speaking of which why can I still see when I'm unconscious, that's not realistic at all. In all seriousness, it's about giving believable feedback for the given situation, how to communicate what is happening in game in a believable manner. You can be belted around the head in real life and you will know that you need to stop that from happening again or you will be KO'd. Given that this cannot be modeled in a believable way in game it needs game mechanics to substitute and communicate what's going on. Currently the KO's are just annoying and far too gamey. This is not a table top game, I don't want all my effort to hinge on the roll of a dice.

I agree they should not be too good with ladders, or doors for tha matter but they are modified normal AI, give it time. Alpha is alpha.
-
Just died to this.... yet again. This is the ONLY way a zombie can kill you if you're familiar with how the zombies work. That is not an angry over reaction, I have only ever been killed by a zombie by being unlucky enough to get two bad rolls of the dice in a row. 5% to knock down trigger, then a long wait to get up = one shot (even from full health). I'm all for making the zombies more deadly, their weakness is the single biggest issue this mod has. I've thought about how it fits into the game and honestly it simply does not. I like the knock down but it can't be a roll of the dice thing, it makes the player feel powerless against it, even though the zombies are a total joke on their own merit right now they may just chance into a kill. It's like if in an MMO I did and average of 250 damage per hit but sometimes I crit for 12000. Now for a suggestion. Implement a way to show that you are being belted around, something audio/visual similar to what is there already, but have it build up worse and worse with each successive hit to let you know you are in trouble and you need to do something before they beat you down, literally. Then either remove the second roll of the dice in favor of a fixed duration or dramatically tighten the range of time it may roll. Edit: Arma 3 pipedream stuff ahead. I would love to see euphoria added so we could have zombies physically knock you down or make you stumble from them hitting/tackling you. If that were to happen at first I would be like, then I would be like.
