  1. Seeing your posts around, I'm not sure you know what cheating is. On topic, no need to look up the town on a wiki, the DayZ DB map has both the English and Russian names on it.
  2. The option for respawning while handcuffed already exists to an extent; if you log while incapacitated, when you log back in you will be a fresh spawn. More on topic: I can understand a minute of 'forced' unconsciousness, but 10 minutes? Really? Do you really want to sit around your computer doing nothing while some 10 year old kid is cussing you out? Even if this wasnt the case, it would take much less than 10 minutes to log out and log back in just to find yourself as a fresh spawn anyways. The only argument in favor of this idea is realism. You are knocked out, so you should be unable to do anything. Well, there comes a point where quality of play surpasses realism, and this is one of those points. If you are unconscious, yeah you can revive and be helped. But that is up to YOU as the player to decide if you want that or want to believe you will be saved. Most of the time, becoming unconscious means you are going to die or lose your gear anyways. We might as well keep the option to expedite the process.
  3. I would NOT recommend what jflies said. I'm pretty sure that spawn will not be around forever, and you will neither learn anything nor have any fun suiciding time and time again until you get a specific spawn. Hell, I have never even seen that spawn, so who knows how easy/hard it is to get. The game can be a bit intimidating when you first start. Instead of suiciding, just find and loot towns that you come across. Start to learn which buildings are worth looking in first, which buildings hold weapons or food, and get the hang of taking care of zombies. Find street signs on the major inlet/outlet roads of the town and look them up on a map. Soon enough, you'll start to grasp your bearings and towns without needing to check the map. This sort of knowledge will NOT come from continually suiciding.

    Friendly or Bandit?

I play experimental servers pretty much exclusively these days. People are definitely more friendly on average, and with loot resets common nobody is really attached to their gear. Experimental is about exploring and discovering what is newly new in DayZ, and I feel people respect that and are willing to be friendly and roll together more often than not. Just in this past week I have met 5 new friends on steam, and that's not counting all those random encounters in game where we exchanged hellos, items, and goodbyes before never seeing anyone again. No joke, I have even found a missed connection by describing our fate on a reddit post. On the other hand, both my characters (core and hardcore) on stable are decked out in gear. I only play them with some friends looking to do some PvP. We probably kill on sight half the time, and the other half we are holding up people at gunpoint anyway. The point I'm trying to make here is, there is no single way to play DayZ. And I take advantage of the multiple server types and characters at my disposal to play the ways I want to play when I want to play them. You don't have to choose to be solely a hero, solely a bandit, or solely Bear Grylls alone in the wilderness. This is the beauty of this game, you can literally do whatever you want, and this is why I love it.

anyone found the new smg or mak?

I found a ruined makarov yesterday on experimental, along with tons of ammo, but no magazines, and no PM63.
  7. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/177951-all-dayz-standalone-changelogs/ Lots of stuff. Zombie navigation improvements, many new weapons, fishing/hunting/animals. No vehicles. Loot respawn/persistence implemented but turned off in stable. See link for more info.

    balisitc helmet

I disagree that people will KoS no matter what if you are a lone wolf. While sure, it does happen to time to time, but recently I have been rocking exclusively cowboy hats and police caps, and through multiple experimental characters and close to a month on my stable character, I have not been KoSed. Maybe all you KoS complainers just have your approach and appearance all wrong. Or all you do is hang out in Berezino on high pop servers. Either way, DayZ is as much a game in psychology as it is in survival or shooting. More on topic... For me, I don't trust strangers in military loot. And that means helmets, full camo gear, high capacity vests, etc. If I am with a group, I probably will shoot them. Chances are they have some valuables. If I am alone, I will only confront them if they have no weapon out and I have the drop.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

I can't believe people actually think there is are "arguments" against this. People already macro it or put things in their keyboards (i use a toothpick), not having something so simple is just an inconvenience. If people want to AFK for periods at a time, why not let them take the risk? Let them learn the lesson through a couple of deaths, or finding out they have been running into the same rock for 15 minutes. Hell, if AFK running is the reason against auto-run, why not just log people out with no input after X amount of time? Stamina a problem? If you run out of stamina, you fall into auto-walk. You wouldn't automatically go back to running when you have sufficient stamina, you would have to do it yourself. I fail to see how this is an argument. People will run themselves out of stamina with or without an auto-run key. Or the "argument" that it is a simulator, so we should do all the actions. We have auto breathe, right? Should we have to press B to inhale then release to exhale? Hell no! This is obviously an extreme and silly example, yet it drives home the point. Something so elementary and common should be optimized for convenience. A better and more apparent example is crouching, walking and crawling (prone). All three of these are toggle-able, yet in real life we obviously have to be conscious about it. Maybe we should also have to hold C to crouch. Hell, we already have auto-walk (double tap shift), should we remove that for consistency with running? People will find and have found ways to combat it; every person I know who plays this game has it macroed or finds other 'manual' ways of auto-running. There is no skill to holding W. Being "too lazy" to hold W does not influence anybody except the player themselves. Nothing will change, except for the increased integrity of a their finger. Worried about alt tabbers? I'm no programmer, but I am sure there is a way to combat this. All in all, I simply have yet to see a solid reason not to implement auto run. That is because there is no solid reason.

    lose the flashlight

I honestly don't even know why a flashlight is the starting item. I think it would be cool to have a wallet with your ID in it, which could also carry paper for notes/pieces of paper. Then whenever you kill someone, you could have the option to take their ID and see if they wrote any death notes/backstory for themselves. Or, you could see how many people that person killed with all their confiscated IDs.

http://www.twitch.tv/hicks_206 Check it out. From what I've heard so far: Experimental servers ARE resetting. Vehicle work has started, but not coming "anytime soon."

    My first death.

It is kind of an unwritten rule that strangers at military bases/airfields are to be killed on sight.
  14. Just need red at the other military bases/airfields and you got it

    improvised leather backpack?

I could be wrong, but I think you can only make the backpack with a wild boar pelt at the moment. Rope + Boar Pelt, then sticks.

    lose the flashlight

I always find several compasses at fire stations. You can find 2 near elektro, 1 in Cernaya Polana, 1 at the NWAF, among others perhaps.

First experience: "I just say Hi"

DayZ's most common last words "Hi."
  18. It's simply the Laws of DayZ, most definitely in the same family as Murphy's. 1. Whatever you need, you will not find. 2. Whenever you find it, you will die. You know you can rummage the forest floor for sticks, or chop down bushes with an axe right? Sticks are terribly easy to gather these days.
  19. Items in ruined clothing are definitely more susceptible to damage. You won't lose them in that they will not disappear, but more damage will eventually ruin them as well. Try to keep your essentials in your backpack. I like to keep ammo boxes (unopened ammo, not the 300 round cases) in my shirt/pants, since when those are ruined you can still open them for the pristine bullets inside.
  20. Basically, Pristine provides the most protection, with ruined/nothing being about the same. The results seems rather linear from pristine>worn>damaged>badly>ruined=nothing. Also, clothing type doesn't seem to matter. Although wearing a chest piece like a assault vest provides extra protection. Note that these small sample sizes means it could just be randomization, so take it with a grain of salt, but I mean it makes sense from a logical point of view.

    Why can't I find a good server?

High Pop Servers = People at Berezino for PvP Low Pop Servers = People at airfields and military bases for looting It's all about the 20-30 range in my opinion. I have found countless friendly people all with different agendas all over the map. But as mad wookie said, as you continue to play, favorite the servers you like so you can always easily get back to them.

any point in having a sidearm?

I like having them around because they don't take up much space, and when I meet up with a fresh or near fresh friend I can arm them immediately. It can also help to hold onto a sidearm if you don't have much ammo for your primary.
  23. It thought MP5 had a single shot mode. Either that or my mouse glitched?

    portable stove

What is nice about the portable stove is you can have the 2x1 stove, a 1x1 or 2x1 gas canister, and the 2x2 cooking pot all assembled together in just the 2x1 stove inventory space. Then when you want to use it, you put it on the ground and turn it on, then put the meat in. Actually cooking the meat takes a while, I got impatient after 5 minutes and said screw it, but I've heard it only burns the meat anyways, but I cannot confirm. Edit: Oh, a frying pan works too if you find that rather than the cooking pot.

    MP5 extremely rare?

I seem to find MP5Ks in stable all the time. Maybe a week ago I had even posted a pic of one run through an unlooted svetlo, yielding 3 MP5Ks and 1 15 round magazine. They almost exclusively spawn on Police Cars, svetlo is a good place to look because there are 4 or 5 police cars around, then also the small chance of them spawning in the station. Novo is also good, with I think 4 cars, but they are more spread out and Novo is usually more dangerous. Out of the maybe 8 MP5s (estimate) I have found, only 1 was actually inside the station.
