Never mind all that, what's the new boomsticks like
doctajones replied to theirongiant's topic in General Discussion
I slew a few people with my full length shotgun in experimental last week. Went through maybe 10 shells, no problems. Can't comment on stable (assuming it's the same) or sawed off (no hacksaw) -
I acquired my M4 from a duper, his backpack was filled with (now ruined) 60 round mags. While yes they don't spawn right now, as long a few people have them they will be duped. I wouldn't say they are common, but they aren't uncommon on full servers with the title "BEREZINO PVP"

Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?
doctajones replied to BoBoSlap's topic in New Player Discussion
A couple of things... First, you cannot expect anyone to be friendly at airfields or military bases. Even police/fire stations you have to be careful. Second, if you are seen with your gun out, lowered or not, you looks hostile. Meeting people in DayZ is all about appearance and demeanor; the game is as much a psychological one as it as a shooter or rpg. I meet friendly people all the time. How? I present myself in a fair and non intimidating matter. I make small talk. I offer assistance. I'm also usually wearing a cowboy hat, which believe it or not, makes you look at lot less scary than a man wearing a helmet. But anyway, I think the number one tip for people wanting to find friendlies is stay away from Berezino. -
Like shrub said, it won't make you invisible, but you can be much harder to notice
-
It definitely matters. What do you think is harder to see, a yellow raincoat or a green shirt running through the forest. In terms of "best camo"? I'm not sure, it's really up to preference. I usually just try to find a set of whatever piece I find first, whether it be gorka, ttkso or whatever. Gotta be matching because swag is the most important survival skill
-
It's not a bad idea, but I think it's just unnecessary. You can already hold a ridiculous amount of loot, might as well keep some control. I do agree you should be able to tie a canteen and tent to your pack, though.
-
Agreed. I think I heard that doors would be reworked eventually to even the point of gradient usage (idk how to word it). Basically, you can open or close a door as much or as little as you want, aka crack it open to peak inside or leave it half closed when you leave. Doors also need to have SOUNDS when they open and close. This could tie in with the above change as opening a door slowly wouldn't make much noise, while flinging it open will slam against a wall
-
We should simply be allowed to tie bandanas/shirts around our upper arms.
-
I think it would be cool to paint doors/walls/floors. Although this would be difficult to control so maybe just text like "DANGER" or "WATER". The interface would be similar to writing notes

Saving animals using medic supplies?
doctajones replied to NagsterTheGangster's topic in Suggestions
Correct me if I wrong but I don't think wildlife has fracture mechanics or lulls into unconsciousness. Perhaps this will change, but it stands that DayZ is a survival sandbox, not a pet hospital -
Dayz Standalone Graphic Guide for better FPS
doctajones replied to mtv@mtv.pri.ee's topic in New Player Discussion
While HDR and Occlusion do affect performance a fair amount, I've noticed that Antialiasing and the "Objects" option under Quality are the real FPS hogs. Perhaps it is different for higher end rigs, but this certainly rings true for the laptop I play on. Turning on AA takes away at the least 10/15 FPS, while tampering with HDR and Occ only account for 5-10 for me. -
POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
doctajones replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
First off sorry I can't quote you Rick, I'm on mobile. Anyway, my post wasn't really addressing you, but more so some of the others In favor; they are saying wait 5:10 minutes or even until death, which could take who knows how long. You say the lamest thing about dayZ is instantly respawning at no cost to the player. Why does there NEED to be a cost? The cost is death, the ultimate sacrifice in which you lose all progress. We already have the option to stay in game and maybe wake up, or you can just fold your hand and start anew. Those situations you mention rarely, if ever, happen. If somebody wants to risk missing out on these sudden changes of heart, make that their cost of instant respawning. Hell, if I get knocked unconscious, I would know within seconds if it was worth it to stay alive or just respawn. Either the guy who knocked you out is talking shit and will kill you, your friend says stay out while I find help, or nobody is within distance and you'll bleed out from that sniper shot or zombie. The 60 seconds you mention is too short to make a meaningful difference, but any longer would be an unnecessary hamper on fun and gameplay. It is simply pointless. Lastly, torturing is possible. Break a mans legs, he's fucked. Knocking him out first just makes the non-lethal leg fracture easier. Then you can do whatever you want with him, because knocking him out means your gear is gone too. Sure you can log, but I imagine when you come back you'll be dead anyways or be stuck with a fracture; I'm not sure, never tried it. -
When .48 hits, 5.56 ammo spawns outside of helicopter crashes. Until then, be sparing or toss the weapon.

Not the barn, I'm not sure how to explain it. It has a gray paved floor an is open on either side. If post a picture but I'm on mobile

With item persistence, traps should DEFINITELY be implemented. For hunting and human use!

Saving animals using medic supplies?
doctajones replied to NagsterTheGangster's topic in Suggestions
Honestly, unless it is a simple task, this is simply a waste of resources to implement this. If (once?) we get animal companions I'm sure they can get injured and need bandages or splints, but for wild animals? Seems pretty pointless. They would just run away. -
Strange that hicks said it never hit stable. I've seen servers in the list where under time, it says x12:31 or whatever, the "x" presumably denoting accelerated time.

I find them often in the long agriculture warehouses or in the inn/pub downtown (corner building with 2 floors)

POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
doctajones replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I don't understand how people think a respawn option while unconscious hurts gameplay. If anything, this suggesting itself would hurt gameplay. Face it, nobody wants to stare at a blank screen. This is pointless time meant to "punish" you for being knocked out. Its simply unnecessary. So what if you eventually get up? More often than not, you will be stripped of all useful items anyway, so you might as well be a fresh spawn. Or what, so people can torture you? I don't think we need to make torture any easier. For how unfun that is to the victim, it should really be earned; there's enough assholes out there already. -
Benefits of the revolver: - .357 rounds are everywhere - no magazine required - breaks legs more often than not - badass
-
Epi pens, like the defib, are used to get another player back into consciousness. Although rarely necessary, I actually needed one the other day. A friend went out due to starvation, we found food but no way to resuscitate him. Force feeding didnt get him back up, unfortunately.
-
It would be helpful to mention if this is hardcore or normal and what to have to offer
-
They definitely seem rarer, I used to find them everywhere - once found 6 in a single clear of the novo tower - but the only one Ive seen since was off a guy I killed.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Carrying Two Long Guns
doctajones replied to 5p4rtan (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I find carrying two primaries is often more a hinderance than a benefit. You always look hostile and thus look like a loot piñata, you drop it everytime you do anything, and to switch requires many buttons and several precious seconds, making it highly inconvenient within a firefight. The only time I carry two primaries is when I am holdin on to one for a friend. On the topic of pistols, I've never had one ruined. Always keep it in the backpack. This goes for any valuable loot; the backpack is the least likely object to get damaged and thus ruined. -
Optimization will come in the Beta period. Alpha is strictly for new content and major bug fixes, whilst in the beta will come game optimization and all the minor bug fixes, such as the annoying sound bugs.
