I posted this as a suggestion for duct tape (currently has no uses?!), so I concur! Should be able to tape any container; medkits, protector cases, bags, with a character limited space. EDIT: Dat Link

The vests are only spawning at the static sites. The problem with their spawning, though, is that it does not spawn at server start, and only through the loot respawn mechanic. Somebody from Reddit explains this.

It's a nice idea but the chances of it happening are close to zero. You would need somebody already on the server in the general location within minutes, or else that baddy is long gone.

Ammo box and protector case spawns?

Lmao I found 3 can openers at the chernaya polana fire station while looking for protector cases last night -
Has dayZ succeeded in being a different type of game?
doctajones replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit like walking dead season 3. We've learned that zombies are essentially irrelevant, but are still annoying and necessary to put down. As such, the "survival" comes from surviving the mysteries of strangers and their intent. The presence of zombies is a fact. If it were to be entirely focused on them, we'd have thousands running around, and I believe the devs have said this won't necessarily be the case. -
Not gonna quote your monster post dale, but you can just as easily imply he meant the sawn off, as that is the point of the post. Pretty sure it was tongue in cheek too, judging by the emote..

I get how that can work in your example, but once again, it is unnecessary. I am sure most people (i am positive at least one in your group) recognize the unique sounds of specific firearms in DayZ, and you can definitely recognize if there is a firefight going on rather than a one-sided affair. Just look at the geared guy's weapons to see if it matches what your heard. You don't need to be a detective to put those clues together. Also, my point from before was people will hardly let you get close enough to check their pulse which is instant, let alone letting a stranger feel them up for several seconds of standing still with zero benefit to them. Thus, you would need to handcuff people or hold them at gun point to even use this feature. By that time, you are either a bandit and don't care about the person anyways, or you are a hero and already have your suspicions/evidence to be holding someone up in the first place. The situations where this would be useful is probably less than 20 in 1000 encounters. I can't seem to recall any time in my ~250 hours of playing where I could have used this feature for any worth (and yes, I play a friendly character). As I have said previously, it would make sense for dead people for determining the recency and cause of death, but for a living character the use is so limited I don't think it is worth implementation unless INCREDIBLY easy and quick to code. Which, with my limited experience in coding, is never the case; the time is simply better spent elsewhere.

Duct Tape, or tape in general, is a very useful product in life. Unfortunately, it is useless in DayZ. Here is a list of potential uses that I think should be added. To govern these uses, Duct Tape would need a percentage based usage, like that found in bandages, food, etc. Tape Notes to Walls/Doors I saw a suggestion that written notes needed a graphic, like scribbles, to make them more apparent to passersby that somebody had written something. This prompted me to think, what if we could tape notes to flat vertical surfaces? Not only would it be readily apparent that somebody wrote something, but you could warn people of trapped zombies in a room, a stash of food, or even the classic "Keep Out!" Tape for Labeling If you have several protector cases or several ammo boxes, you could tape a simple label, visible form the outside, to your container for ease of discernment. I suppose this could also be used for water bottles/canteens too, once purification is needed. We could either write on the tape directly, or tape a piece of paper to said container. A character limit may be needed, or perhaps just scale the text down to accommodate length. Tape Magazines Together The first time I saw the 60 round STANAG magazine, I thought it was just a user craft of two 30 rounds taped together. I think we SHOULD be able to tape magazines together for ease of access. You wouldn't have 60 continuous rounds, but rather a quicker reload, perhaps using the R key. Tape Players Mouth to Mute For the ultimate torture session, tape over the mouth of that noisy bastard to mute them while doing whatever dastardly things wish... Besides forcefeeding, I suppose, which would require removal of the tape. Tape Flashlights, Knives, etc to Weapons By taping a flashlight or knife (as a bayonet) to a weapon, you could save some inventory space at the cost of accuracy, due to weapon instability. These crude attachments should also "wear out" after some time and fall off, either dictated by use or just time itself. Tape Cooking Pot & Lid for Makeshift Container This would make a limited use container. Place the cooking pot on the ground, fill it with items, and tape the lid to the pot to close it. The caveat is, whenever you want to use something from the pot, the tape is removed. If you keep the pot in your bag, the items become "loose," and either fill up your bag accordingly or simply fall out to the ground. That's all I got for now, if you have any additional suggestions let us hear it!

These buildings have a shed/workshop, accessed by usually open doors on its right side. I seem to find them there this patch.

The most important meal of the day! (dayz suggestion)
doctajones replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
I'm sure this will be changed as we near the final product. No reason to have testers constantly dying of starvation and dehydration when we are more valuable alive. -
I don't think you understand what I am saying. There is a possibility that ANYONE is a bandit, regardless of the presence of wounds or lack thereof. Same as how there is a possibility that ANYONE is friendly, regardless of the presence of wounds or lack thereof. Any stranger could say they were attacked and survived, and they could be telling the truth. It is just as plausible that they are lying; they attacked someone and met retaliation, yet still survived the showdown. The point is, having visible injuries is irrelevant, because it doesn't tell you anything other than some shit went down. What exactly happened? Nobody will ever know except for those who witnessed it. If I have to make it any simpler: Everybody gets shot at some point or another in this game, regardless of what they are doing. Thus, knowing that somebody survived a gunshot does not tell you anything of importance. You cannot deduce the type of player from his wounds because everybody at some point will get wounded.
-
So what is the point? You cannot possibly make any sound judgements based on if a person was shot. It doesn't tell you if they are the instigator or the defender. Handcuff marks? So he got preyed on and survived. So what? And second, I understand it would be time consuming. What I was saying is people rarely let strangers get close enough to check their pulse which takes 1 second. Why would they let them check for wounds for 5 seconds? If you are already that trusting to leave yourself exposed and stationary while checking them out, I'm the results wouldn't sway you in any way.

Weird Unexpected Death. Can someone explain?
doctajones replied to Devil's Toast's topic in General Discussion
Happened to me twice in the same day in the same room (different town): upstairs police station, left most room near the shelves. I was able to recover my body the second time thanks to a fortunate spawn... But strangely it was outside the building on a different side than the room: directly behind rather than the left side (if facing front). -
I just don't really see the point. The only use I can imagine is if a player is dead, when you check their pulse it says "bob has no pulse. He has several gunshot wounds." Or zombie scratches or something to say how he died. As for the living, most people won't even let you check their pulse for their name, let alone meticulously examining the body for signs of their past.

The most important meal of the day! (dayz suggestion)

You could still eat the ingredients (which at the moment, fruits/veggies besides zucchini are a waste a time), but creating a meal would provide a far superior energy gain. -
Ammo box and protector case spawns?
doctajones replied to Tyrianrage's topic in New Player Discussion
Only places I've found protector cases were at fire stations and once at the red single story inn. Ammo boxes I've found at jails, barracks and once at a construction site -
Do composite arrows have metal arrowheads? They should be able to open cans too if so. Improvised arrows are wooden heads, so that shouldn't do the trick.
-
For me, pressing the button 3 times seems to work most if not all the time. Twice and 4 times aren't good because you often take out the weapon just to put it back. If you have to hit it 5 times, might as well get used to doing it manually as that works all the time.
-
The axe has a sharpened edge to pierce the can, rather than a crowbar which is used for prying. I agree though that more food should be lost with an axe. Not sure how much is lost with a machete but it should be less than an axe.
-
From a pistol, maybe, but from a rifle it would still retain its lethality on some animals. The problem with distance and the .22 is how light it is, and over increasing range it is increasing susceptible to wind, and to a smaller extent its loss of energy. I'm not sure about a kill, but a player hit in the hit from 100 yards with a sporter should at least be knocked out.

I didn't like this idea at all when I first read it. But after the shower I just took, and we know, all the best ideas come from the shower, I thought of a tweak to this to make it less harsh but still potentially useful and annoying to continuous hoppers. Note that I could care less about stopping server hopping, but I just wanted to help improve your idea which seems a little harsh, but it is not a bad concept. Basically, you may log out anywhere you want like you already can, making sure you find a safe spot so nobody will kill you in your logout animation. However, certain areas of the map, particularly military bases, airfields, and large cities, shall be spawn restricted. Say you log out in one of these 'High Value Areas.' Upon logging in, you will be spawn in somewhere in the light wilderness in the general vicinity of the area, outside the restricted spawn zone. A measure would have to be in place so that your random spawn would have to be more than X meters of the nearest player, whenever possible. Continuous log outs in the same HVA could be counted, and your next spawn in could be farther and farther away. For players who are changing servers without the intent of continuous looting, this hardly be a hindrance. When I log out, I find a secluded place outside of high traffic areas anyways, and thus I would not be affected by it. I am sure I am not the only one who practices this log in/log out tactic. If you did happen to get your spawn in changed, you could simply run a few minutes to where you were, loot and be on your way. It is just with consistent logins found with server hoppers, they will be running just as much as they are looting, much like how it is for us non-hoppers players anyway :D

The most important meal of the day! (dayz suggestion)
doctajones replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
I'd like to see more of this 'dynamism' for foods. Adding water to milk to hydrate you rather than energize you with the dry stuff, and of course making cereal is a good idea. (Would we need a bowl too?) Or even simple stuff like heating up your spaghetti or beans and it gives you more energy or something. Since fruit is a pretty shitty food source, it would be cool to slice up some bananas and apples, throw in some peaches and make a fruit salad that is actually worth eating, energy wise. -
It seems all fruit is fresh now, I don't think I have seen a single rotten ____ since the update. I'm kinda bummed, because my pristine banana is no longer very rare. Seem to be finding weapons fairly easily, but haven't seen a single box of 7.62x39. Only a 15 loose stack right before I got killed at NEAF and several drum mags seem to be the sole providers.
-
I have a Pristine SMERSH Backpack for trade. Looking for an AK101, but I will consider an AKM, M4, HiCap Vest, or any other offers. Also have several magazines: Two 75round AKM drums, 30round AKM, 30round AK101, 10round Sporter, 10round Amphibia, 7round 1911. I'm on US Third person, mind you.
