Give all current full auto only weapons the select fire ability

I am not 100% sure of this, but I THINK I remember Hicks or someone saying they were going to add selective fire to more weapons eventually, but first they would like to implement a way to check which fire mode you are in. I don't know why they can't just put an indicator in the corner of the screen. The arguments against this seems to be 'we don't want screen clutter' or 'you should have to check to see what mode you are in.' Well for one, we already have a display for zero distance, and second, you can tell which fire mode you are in by simply holding the gun and feeling the switch with your finger. There should be no need for any animation for checking firing mode.

I'm surprised so many people are having trouble regulating their temperature. I may get a few "its chilly" or "i'm sweating" updates, but I've never been dangerously hot or cold, sprinting across Chernarus in the sun/rain/etc. Had no problems wearing Gorka Jacket/Gorka Pants with Helmet, gloves and combat boots and no problems with Tactical Shirt/Cargo Pants with cowboy hat, gloves and jungle boots. Both the Gorka Jacket and the Tactical Shirt prevent you from getting wet, which is nice. Melee is seriously pretty shitty. Perhaps it was random chance but I seem to have better luck using the pickaxe rather than splitting/fire axes. I think the pickaxe may have a longer reach. I've also noticed that the zombies take 2 hits to fall... They may fall in 1 to the head, but its an achievement to even strike their torso at all.

The static Mi-8s like this do not smoke. The smoke comes from the dynamic (randomly spawning) Black Hawks like this. The Mi-8s do spawn loot, but extremely rarely. The only way to get the SMERSH vest and RAK are from these static Mi-8 crash sites. See the quote below for one theory/strategy for Mi-8 looting. It references the current stable patch, so I would assume spawns are enabled in experimental too. I guess we won't know 100% until someone reports it.

    Why won't my AKM shoot?

I thought it was fixed, but I know last patch sometimes picking up a gun formerly belonging to someone else rendered it unusable UNLESS you: 1. Log out and log back in 2. Spray paint the gun

    Loot Respawn and Persistent Loot

On Stable, server names with 'PERSISTENCE: ON' will have loot respawn and persistence through server resets. On experimental, all servers have respawn/persistence. Be warned, though, that the system is still a work in process and a bit flawed. Many towns are completely empty, then one day you will hit the jackpot with more loot than you can shake a stick at.

    Friendly? oh please..

If they are saying friendly, they aren't. Hold a conversation as if there is no danger. More often then not, there won't be.

    Another experiment

I actually do this quite oftenwith positive results. Just last week ran into two guys fighting zombies, helped them fight off the horde and gave one of them my mosin. I then proceeded to watch him snipe a different guy on a room with said mosin  Although, I usually don't carry a weapon on my back. If anything, I'll have a sawed off shotgun or pistol in my bag, and run around with the medkit in my hand. I seem to have good luck meeting people, though. How do you approach them? What do you say? DayZ is very much a psychological game, and impressions and mannerisms are everything.

poor soda cans into canteen / bottle

As far as I know, sodas aren't spawning in the wilderness. To get those sodas in the first place, you would have to venture to a loot area to even obtain them. If you are venturing into said areas, you are most likely near a pump, river, lake or pond anyways. If you are gonna carry those sodas until your canteen is out, then lootspace isn't a problem. My point remains. Should it be an option? Probably. Is it necessary to do? Rarely, if ever.

    some ideas for realistic-ness

It obviously would need tweaking, I came up with it in about 2 minutes haha. But it was more of the point. Something that may challenge decision making to save time, but works fast enough to not drag on when fun is to be had elsewhere. The Kit as a container crossed my mind but I didn't include it in my post, as I figured it would just hold all the parts when stripping. That isn't a bad idea though. Replace what you think is wrong, or do the general cleaning. I think that weapons (and all items, for that matter), should deteriorate with use. Using the cleaning kit often will keep it pristine, while letting it get worn>damaged>etc will make it jam and malfunction more frequently. If you replaced say, the trigger from your Mosin with your extra from the Kit, should the replaced piece be consumed (disappear) or go into your inventory? I think they should be consumed to punish an unnecessary repair, but this also means that weapon parts need to spawn outside of kits (like how you can find blood bags, IVs, etc outside of medkits). This also opens the possibility of removing essential pieces from unwanted weapons, rendering them fairly useless to people who discover them, unless they too have the missing pieces.

poor soda cans into canteen / bottle

There is water literally everywhere. And if you have 3 soda cans, you would have to go somewhere to loot.... And did you even read my post? I said it was viable. Or do you need a thesaurus to go with your ad hominem posts. Should it be possible? Sure. Is it necessary? I think not.

Been running around with cargo pants and green hoodie and switching to rain coat when necessary. Having no problems with temperature. Seems to be a bug where you can wring out your clothes immediately with no animation if you have a weapon in your hands.

poor soda cans into canteen / bottle

It's viable yeah, but I don't see why you just don't drink the soda immediately... 3 cans of soda will easily keep you hydrated enough to find the nearest water source. If you are brown stuffed and thirsty, you are doing something wrong...

    some ideas for realistic-ness

First, lets try to avoid the term 'realistic' here. I hate to open this can of worms but Dean doesn't want DayZ completely 'realistic,' but rather he wants to create an 'authentic' experience. Everything should be openly interactable and behave like their real life counter parts, but we can also do things like mending fractures with a splint without it healing for weeks. The car parts I am ok with. You find a vehicle, inspect it, and get a general idea of what's wrong, like in your example. Then hopefully you can find the part, attach it, and see it's status now. My problem was with gun stripping. There are 2 "realistic" ways I can think of that this could be implemented. 1. You add a stripping minigame, something like WoG, and I am not a fan of that. Minigames only really work in single player or games where you can stop time; DayZ is realtime, and at any second you may be in danger. 2. You add a bunch of new items: bolts, springs, screws, etc (for each gun) that need to be detached and reattached in a certain order. That is a LOT of work that I would prefer to be spent elsewhere, such as adding vehicles, base building, interactable world (swing axe, get wood). Plus, you would have to hold on to all these little pieces or risk dropping them, taking up loads of bag space. Perhaps an "authentic" suggestion would be: - Gun jams, inspect to get an idea of what maybe could be wrong. - Use weapon cleaning kit, get multiple options such as "clean bolt" or "replace spring" (I'm no expert so idk the causes/fixes for jamming. it would obviously have to make sense) - You can use any of the options, but only the right one will fix the gun. - Perhaps there is also a "maintain weapon" option that has a bit of a lengthy animation, but can be done to prevent or heavily lessen the jamming probability for X amount of time. You could do it before entering a military area for example, but not in the midst of a firefight without huge risk.

What if we get rid of Zombies?

With private hives I am sure people will do this if its possible. I for one agree with Maia, they are nice indicators of many things, despite their annoyance.

    Experimental Branch: 0.49 Discussion

It makes sense, we know that. And in my ~250 hours of playing, I had never been to the town I stumbled on today with all of the loot. I wasn't a fan of spawning people all across the map before, but it may be a valid option now if something cannot be done about the loot spawning. That, or loot deletion needs to be fixed (or added?). Things that aren't touched should have a faster timer. Things like weapons, backpacks, and often used 'valuables' should have timers that far surpass the length of server resets. Other things, such as civilian clothing, tools (screw drivers, spanners, saws), books and perhaps even food/drink should respawn upon server resets or their built in timer, which ever comes first.

    some ideas for realistic-ness

There is a point where quality of play surpasses the need for realism; this suggestion is far beyond that. I am all for guns jamming without proper maintenance and requiring specific parts to fix a vehicle, but the meticulousness of ACTUALLY doing that is completely unnecessary. And, as I imagine, far from fun.

    Experimental Branch: 0.49 Discussion

This is exactly what is happening. Spent hours running along the towns near the coast/spawn towns finding nothing and starving several times. I then made it to Vyshnoe and the Zub castle and hit the jackpot. This means loot respawn does work, but the cleanup of untouched loot I think is the problem. In some places you will find a million books, taking up the spawns of any other loot because they are not being removed. In other cases, like mine, all loot piles up in 1 (or several) untouched towns. Here my album of jackpot trip. Maybe it will help people see where loot can spawn, as well as what types.

Of course it is, i'm just saying i'm in agreement, just like I am with this post. The more we circulate the ideas, the better chance they get implemented!

That makeshift bayonet was also a suggestion of mine :P Well, it was more of attachments in general.. Bayonets, flashlights, etc. I'll try to find the link! Found it!

    Hacksaws uber rare now?

Hate to be this guy, but that is coincidence, not irony. Man... I feel like one of those "ITS MAGAZINE NOT CLIP" guys   On topic... While yeah, they seem more rare, I seem to be able to find them in either the building I posted above, or the small train station warehouses you sometimes find. They are wooden sheds raised above railroads (one near novo, one near svetlo, one between Electro and Cherno).

    Loot distribution

With the loot respawn mechanic, things seem a little more sporadic. Those places you know that spawn "good" loot still do, but since they are more often frequented without a consistent respawn (server reset), you must look elsewhere. Note that this mechanic is only enabled on select servers.
