It is a nice idea, but I doubt DayZ will ever have it's own Stone of Jordan. Loot and death is too random and volatile. An item's value grossly fluctuates; to someone starving, the could be willing to give extra weapons an ammo, while to others food wouldn't even be considered in a trade. In addition, with no complete safe trade mechanism, why trade your precious can opener when you can have a friend snipe the would be trader? A few months ago I proposed a wallet for the following reasons: Carries your ID. Whenever someone is killed, you take their ID and keep it in your wallet. You can keep a tally of your kills, and if you are ever held up, the people check check your wallet to see if you are a killer or not.Can carry maps, notes, etc without taking extra space. I think this would increase the prevalence of death notes and the like(new) keep your dime bag

I sometimes run DayZ on a laptop with every spec lower than yours. With the right tweaks and depending on where you are, I average 20 but can get up to 35 but as low 5-10 as well. It definitely isn't ideal, but at least for me, graphics and frames don't mean everything. The game is still a blast if you are willing to put up with it. edit: if you were curious, i5-3210M @ 2.5gHz 6gb RAM HD Graphics 4000 x64

NWAF is hit or miss. You will either find a battle field or a deserted wasteland. You are always bound to find PvP in Berezino. Whether you will be fighting hackers or not, is a different story. I personally enjoy svetlo/novo. Not as many folk as Berezino, but hacking is much lower and is still just as fun.

It's obviously the place to put your dime bag, since they are planning on adding that too.

Give all current full auto only weapons the select fire ability
doctajones replied to Macbain (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I am not 100% sure of this, but I THINK I remember Hicks or someone saying they were going to add selective fire to more weapons eventually, but first they would like to implement a way to check which fire mode you are in. I don't know why they can't just put an indicator in the corner of the screen. The arguments against this seems to be 'we don't want screen clutter' or 'you should have to check to see what mode you are in.' Well for one, we already have a display for zero distance, and second, you can tell which fire mode you are in by simply holding the gun and feeling the switch with your finger. There should be no need for any animation for checking firing mode. -
I thought it was fixed, but I know last patch sometimes picking up a gun formerly belonging to someone else rendered it unusable UNLESS you: 1. Log out and log back in 2. Spray paint the gun

On Stable, server names with 'PERSISTENCE: ON' will have loot respawn and persistence through server resets. On experimental, all servers have respawn/persistence. Be warned, though, that the system is still a work in process and a bit flawed. Many towns are completely empty, then one day you will hit the jackpot with more loot than you can shake a stick at.

So where have all the Mosins gone?

Here. -
If they are saying friendly, they aren't. Hold a conversation as if there is no danger. More often then not, there won't be.
-
I actually do this quite oftenwith positive results. Just last week ran into two guys fighting zombies, helped them fight off the horde and gave one of them my mosin. I then proceeded to watch him snipe a different guy on a room with said mosin  Although, I usually don't carry a weapon on my back. If anything, I'll have a sawed off shotgun or pistol in my bag, and run around with the medkit in my hand. I seem to have good luck meeting people, though. How do you approach them? What do you say? DayZ is very much a psychological game, and impressions and mannerisms are everything.

You can in experimental.

10 minutes later and im still looking for him in the first picture.

As far as I know, sodas aren't spawning in the wilderness. To get those sodas in the first place, you would have to venture to a loot area to even obtain them. If you are venturing into said areas, you are most likely near a pump, river, lake or pond anyways. If you are gonna carry those sodas until your canteen is out, then lootspace isn't a problem. My point remains. Should it be an option? Probably. Is it necessary to do? Rarely, if ever.
-
It obviously would need tweaking, I came up with it in about 2 minutes haha. But it was more of the point. Something that may challenge decision making to save time, but works fast enough to not drag on when fun is to be had elsewhere. The Kit as a container crossed my mind but I didn't include it in my post, as I figured it would just hold all the parts when stripping. That isn't a bad idea though. Replace what you think is wrong, or do the general cleaning. I think that weapons (and all items, for that matter), should deteriorate with use. Using the cleaning kit often will keep it pristine, while letting it get worn>damaged>etc will make it jam and malfunction more frequently. If you replaced say, the trigger from your Mosin with your extra from the Kit, should the replaced piece be consumed (disappear) or go into your inventory? I think they should be consumed to punish an unnecessary repair, but this also means that weapon parts need to spawn outside of kits (like how you can find blood bags, IVs, etc outside of medkits). This also opens the possibility of removing essential pieces from unwanted weapons, rendering them fairly useless to people who discover them, unless they too have the missing pieces.

There is water literally everywhere. And if you have 3 soda cans, you would have to go somewhere to loot.... And did you even read my post? I said it was viable. Or do you need a thesaurus to go with your ad hominem posts. Should it be possible? Sure. Is it necessary? I think not.
-
It's viable yeah, but I don't see why you just don't drink the soda immediately... 3 cans of soda will easily keep you hydrated enough to find the nearest water source. If you are brown stuffed and thirsty, you are doing something wrong...

First, lets try to avoid the term 'realistic' here. I hate to open this can of worms but Dean doesn't want DayZ completely 'realistic,' but rather he wants to create an 'authentic' experience. Everything should be openly interactable and behave like their real life counter parts, but we can also do things like mending fractures with a splint without it healing for weeks. The car parts I am ok with. You find a vehicle, inspect it, and get a general idea of what's wrong, like in your example. Then hopefully you can find the part, attach it, and see it's status now. My problem was with gun stripping. There are 2 "realistic" ways I can think of that this could be implemented. 1. You add a stripping minigame, something like WoG, and I am not a fan of that. Minigames only really work in single player or games where you can stop time; DayZ is realtime, and at any second you may be in danger. 2. You add a bunch of new items: bolts, springs, screws, etc (for each gun) that need to be detached and reattached in a certain order. That is a LOT of work that I would prefer to be spent elsewhere, such as adding vehicles, base building, interactable world (swing axe, get wood). Plus, you would have to hold on to all these little pieces or risk dropping them, taking up loads of bag space. Perhaps an "authentic" suggestion would be: - Gun jams, inspect to get an idea of what maybe could be wrong. - Use weapon cleaning kit, get multiple options such as "clean bolt" or "replace spring" (I'm no expert so idk the causes/fixes for jamming. it would obviously have to make sense) - You can use any of the options, but only the right one will fix the gun. - Perhaps there is also a "maintain weapon" option that has a bit of a lengthy animation, but can be done to prevent or heavily lessen the jamming probability for X amount of time. You could do it before entering a military area for example, but not in the midst of a firefight without huge risk.

With private hives I am sure people will do this if its possible. I for one agree with Maia, they are nice indicators of many things, despite their annoyance.
-
There is a point where quality of play surpasses the need for realism; this suggestion is far beyond that. I am all for guns jamming without proper maintenance and requiring specific parts to fix a vehicle, but the meticulousness of ACTUALLY doing that is completely unnecessary. And, as I imagine, far from fun.
-
Yeah... He is the idiot because he conned a couple of geared guys...
-
Of course it is, i'm just saying i'm in agreement, just like I am with this post. The more we circulate the ideas, the better chance they get implemented!
-
That makeshift bayonet was also a suggestion of mine :P Well, it was more of attachments in general.. Bayonets, flashlights, etc. I'll try to find the link! Found it!
-
Hate to be this guy, but that is coincidence, not irony. Man... I feel like one of those "ITS MAGAZINE NOT CLIP" guys   On topic... While yeah, they seem more rare, I seem to be able to find them in either the building I posted above, or the small train station warehouses you sometimes find. They are wooden sheds raised above railroads (one near novo, one near svetlo, one between Electro and Cherno).

With the loot respawn mechanic, things seem a little more sporadic. Those places you know that spawn "good" loot still do, but since they are more often frequented without a consistent respawn (server reset), you must look elsewhere. Note that this mechanic is only enabled on select servers.

I posted this as a suggestion for duct tape (currently has no uses?!), so I concur! Should be able to tape any container; medkits, protector cases, bags, with a character limited space. EDIT: Dat Link
