DAYZ - The Good, The Bad & The Infected here is the cartoon series I'm putting together. I'm making a whole bunch of shorts that sums up DayZ Standalone in a comical way, using all funny & annoying things that makes it the way it is

just so people are not confused, this is not going to be a comic, but an actual real animated cartoon series with voice acting

Radios : A Cure for Player Interaction
archamedes replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in General Discussion
I have said since day one, that lack of global communication with the whole server is primarily the main reason why KOS is so high. Having a radio in your inventory that allows you to effectively side chat to anyone else who has a radio may mix things up a lot. Too many people have killed someone out of panic/fear or self preservation, only to find out they weren't armed. The fact that side chat was so common in the mod made it easier to make alliances, team up, find out who is going on a rampage around cherno killing everyone and who wanted to meet up and trade. The fact that player interaction would be so much better when you get used to the regulars online, means you find out who to trust, who to shoot and who to ignore will make a massive change in gameplay. That said it wont stop kos or campers, because these people will still stay as they are and wont interact with other players via radio to keep their identity secret, meaning people would have to guess who the killer is or call on everyone to come to cherno and flush out the camper. -
Why I prefer the DayZ Mod to DayZ Standalione.

much better playing ride of the valkyrie. Really sends the message home. -
Leaving cholera water filled bottles and canteens around fresh spawn areas a pet bottle holds more water than a canteen so if you poured 100% contaminated water from a canteen into an empty pet bottle it would then sit at 80% that sounds delicious to a freshie with a mouth like ghandis sandle, some people get suspicious of a 100% bottle just laying there but you can get any percentage you want if you use some of it to water a garden plot to make it look less obvious that its spiked. even if you empty the bottle first and fill it up with clean water, the bottle is still contaminated. you have to empty it and disinfect it first

So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
archamedes replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
reading some of the comments does make me laugh. They didnt roll back because they gave in to the whining, they also didnt roll back for everyone to get a breather and gear up again. They more than likely did it because the first installment of central loot economy was troublesome for certain servers and private servers got the brunt end of it. Not to mention the loot bombs in the outhouses, because they were neve originally assigned a loot position and the programming got confused and loot bombed it. They are more than likely going to be going over everything to fix some of the issues, try to make sure that military loot is configured right for military buildings and the same for civillian so you wont find an m4 in grannies house, and you wont find a teddy bear in the military jail. I'm looking forward to the 2nd iteration of central loot economy, I just hope that tents are avaliable in all houses again and not just at apartments like before & currently now -
gas doesnt work. you throw up and are fine in 2 minutes. cholera kills you slowly
-
yeah but its actually something to do and takes time to do, instead of just shooting people on a hill because you are bored. "blasters, so uncivilized."
-
lol no he starts with an advantage. Still hungry and weak

name a fresh spawn at a spawn area that starts healthy?

Cooking tips in 0.55 (I have tried them all) You WILL need a cooking pot. I found a frying pan but it didnt turn the meat red so frying pans are not working. When you have your pot, go kill an animal, collect both the meat and the lard. You can now cook this 2 ways. Either with a cooking tripod which you will also need to find or you can craft a stone oven by finding 8 stones. Make your fire place, with kindling sticks and one of the following a book, a piece of paper, a rag a bandage or by getting a knife and cutting bark off of trees with thick brown trunks. You then need to stack some logs onto the fire place too, you can stack up to 5 logs on top of each other to make it last longer. If you add 4 stones, you get a nice fireplace look, but only works if you are cooking with a tripod. You do not need to add water to the pan, I never have done but after you add all 4 steaks, you add the lard which does not take up any cooking space. Light your fire or your oven and keep a close eye as it cooks faster with this patch. When the meat is ready, it actually looks like its been burned because the meat turns a very dark brown, its this color because of the lard that turns it into a nice dark steak, it will energize and slightly hydrate you when eaten and gives you more health benefits than a cold can of beans. Dont even try to catch fish yet, because as soon as you try to prepare the fish with a knife, all you get are the guts. Fish have been bugged ever since the game forced you to cook with the pot, so don't waste your time just yet. You can also put out your fire by pouring a canteen over it. If the flames go and it looks like it is about to die out, add more logs and more sticks then blow air into it and the fire will roar back up again. There you go.

I play only on a private server (cant hop) and the private ones are supposed to be the ones with the less loot than the public ones and i can't complain because I always seem to find something because i take my time to look and dont expect to trip into grandmas house and have loot fall on me like before

My tips on dealing with the zombies. 1. Crouch in towns, if you turn a corner and one stops and stares at you. This is your only opertunity to get a quick headshot in before it charges. You know its about to charge because their head rolls about. 2. In any situation Sprint!!! Go in a straight line or hurdle fences, they snap right at your heels, but they no longer hit you so long as you do not stop, this is because of their new attack animation. Trust me, they do lose interest fast and slow down. after this point they won't even bother chasing you if you run back past them because they are too exhausted. 3. Run into a house and shut the door. If you have a small horde of them, just stand by the window, they end up beating each other to death. Just single head shot the last one with a pistol. 4. Try to lock a zombie in a house, this tactic is actually harder and you may get hit by doing so. 5. Run around and agro every zombie in a town and lure them away from the town. When they give up, circle back and loot the town unbothered. 6. Have a friend agro all the zombies by driving through a town in a truck, they are like magnets. Then park it up, turn the engine off and wait. The zombies climb onto the back of it and stay there. Even if you climb out and stand right in front of them, they just stare at you & will not move. 7. if your friend is being chased by a zombie do not attempt to fire shots at them, chances are they are so close up your friends ass that the bullet will pass through and kill your friend too. you will also alert other zombies to your location. Its just better to sprint for 20 seconds and let them wear out. So there you have it, zombies may be more dangerous and harder to fight up close and personal, but if you adopt these tactics you can get round them without ever taking any damage. Please bear in mind, that with future iterations and patches, may make some of these steps redundant in the future.

My tactics for dealing with the 0.55 zombies
archamedes replied to archamedes's topic in General Discussion
Nope not had that. They do give up. Its easier if you can jump fences because they have to run round them. Also because zombies can no longer see through buildings like they used to, they now cant see through chain link fences, because it seems to be programmed the same as solid geometry instead of a transparent plane, which is what the fences actually are. The textures to make the fence are a normal fence image, but with a transparency map to make them see through. The only issue is, the zombies see it as a solid object, so you can shoot them without being seen -

Fight them bare handed after you have exhausted them. They dont react as fast and they stumble as you continue dishing out the hurt -

Zombies are normal humans with virus?

4th message down on first page http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223425-power-grids-character-zombies-after-death/ The poster obviously didnt read my opening message because he claims the current game engine cant handle it and i even said AFTER the new engine comes in things like this could be easier to do -

but when i put in a suggestion about players becoming zombies i was told no no no no, it goes against the dayz lore, so if you are saying there is no lore then what is the point of having a suggestion page whenever everything that gets suggested gets thrown out? -
do you not understand how persistence works? If there is nothing in a house before a reset, there will still be nothing in the house after a reset either, this isn't new to 0.55 persistence has been like this for ages. before new loot would replen after the wednesday maintenance and that was all you got for the whole week. Now its up to admins of servers to chose if they do a server wipe, the central loot economy is designed to be self sufficient.

if you strictly play as a bandit then you are going to have a bad time. The devs say they dont force anybody to play in a certain style and its true, but since .55 a bandit is now going to be much harder, especially if you chose to be the guy sitting on a hill sniping people for sport. Count your ammo wisely because chernarus is now more like its a year into the apocalypse and every version before was like it was only a week into the apocalypse. There are over 2 million spawn points on the whole map, but you will only find 250k units of loot anywhere at any one time, so saying there is nothing is bullshit, you just have to work for it now and not be lazy expecting to find everything you want in a small town like you did before. If it seems to hard and you cant pvp anymore, then this is not the game for you and its never been a secret about this either

So after the last week of seeing people complain about the zombies, complain about the loot issue etc even though it is the first installment of an ongoing development to better zombie ai and the early steps to central loot economy, Dayz has finally hit it with how harsh survival is. Every version of dayz up to 0.54 was just the training. It was easy mode, teaching people how the game works, how you gear up how you craft and how you survive and then you pressed the button and0.55 came, suck t up princess its now survival time. Perfect example of this is about 2 weeks ago. I would wander into a town and be all like "can of peaches, can of spaghetti, look another can of peaches. You know what I'm not carrying all this stuff, I got enough. Right now lets go hunt some people at nwaf." Thats not survival. Then last night for an hour and a half, I'm just staying neutral (Not hungry and not energized) by feeding off berries and apples, looking as many places as i can. I even said "I can't find anything, how can I survive this?" Until i came across a small village, where i found acp rounds, a mosin and a can of peaches. Oh my god, when i picked that can up it was like i was holding the holy grail, it felt like such an achievement, I just may get to survive this after all. Thats when it all came together, the little things mean so much and everything you used to do before to pass the time no longer seemed important. You now dont have time to camp out on sniper hill or do drag racing with trucks. You are putting yourself in danger when you need to establish a base using tents and gather supplies to last the next few days. Its harder yes, but what rewards do you get when you find a town full of food?
