I have a few interesting ideas that me and my clan were discussing earlier which I thought would make for some awesome character ideas ingame. 1.I know this has been requested many times before so I would like to add to it just so it may help them decide that its a popular request and decide to put it in. But facial hair growth over time. Cut it with a knife if you want it short. Boom, thats that one out the way. 2. I noticed that if you find an epi pen, it says that it is commonly known to treat allergic reactions as well as waking unconscious people. I'm liking the idea that there is random character system in play that happens when you spawn as a bambi. Iwhat if any player had a VERY small chance your character starting with an allergy to certain food types. For instance, berries or peaches. Only way to find out is if you eat said food and you get sick and become unconscious unless you get an epi pen to cure you. Then get told "It seems i am allergic to peaches." When you die, it no longer applies and may or may not come back for a while. 3. Going further with number 2. How about randomly spawning in and after you become healthy & only after this stage, do random players find out they are diabetic and have to find insulin from time to time to stay healthy. It would add a new survival dynamic into the game and people would have to loot hospitals to find medication for you, because you know, this sort of thing happens often in zombie films. I know a lot of people will probably be like "I don't want to play with diabetes, that sucks." Well yeah, try telling that to someone that actually lives with it. Nobody wants to live have it, but if people have it and in an apocalypse it adds more to team work and looting to keep ill people who require medication alive. I mean we have syringes and only a limited amount of sickness ingame, so why not? we even have a blood type system in, so why not go further with it? 4. have different body types when chosing your character. Have tall and small people, have fat people (cant run as fast or as long as everyone else.) Mix it up a bit so everyone isn't '6'2' and the same body size. 5. Ok so i guess 4. was a bit far fetched because they would have to do a lot of work making clothes fit and the basic character mesh has to be universal, so why not have different ages for your characters? Have dean hall young, dean hall middle aged, and dean hall old. You wouldn't need to change anything in the mesh of the body at all and it would literally be just a bit of photoshop on the body textures and turning the hair grey and adding wrinkles or removing hair all together for older players. 6. With the debate going on about helicopters and the fact that random people realistically just wouldn't be able to fly them, well this isn't strictly true. Many people in day to day life have a basic pilots licence for small aircraft its not THAT unreasonable to believe that 1 out of 10 people may actually have the training to fly one. SO to prevent full out server wars with clans all owning choppers and flying about trolling the place, why not have it so your player has a 1 in 10 chance of actually being able to fly something. For example, if you spawn in and you draw the short straw you can jump into a heli as a passenger but thats it. If you are lucky enough to get a long straw, you can jump in and fly it because hey, looks like your player actually had a licence before the apocalypse.

they are just basic suggestions, and im sure there could be ways to tweak them or even turn on or off when you select your character. Like switching on dependencies on medication or random allergies etc... It makes for a more in depth play style because having everyone play as an equal as you put it, does sound pretty dull. Not everyone is an equal and not everyone should be an ideal fit person. And you say that people know if they are allergic to things. Not necessarily. You can go your whole life not knowing you are allergic to tuna, but in an apocalypse when you are starving and all you find is a can of tuna, yeah your are going to find that out. Secondly. We have syringes in game, and limited amounts of uses for them. sicknesses and poisoning is also very limited, so again why not? I could alos see the syringes being used to inject players with poisons or drugs to screw with their aiming and vision, but hey, what do i know, my ideas are shit.

so then why not just put the game into beta now and then say "Modders, add your own content and finish the game, we are done?" because they are adding content for everyone to enjoy. the fact that you seem to think that by working on helis when YOU don't want them means they delaying content you do want is a little bit selfish, really. I dont like half the crap they add in like brooms and hay hooks, etc, but i don't think they should stop adding stuff like that just so they can add everything i want
-
I think there is a way to make everyone happy. many people want heli's while just as many don't want them. If the devs chose to go one way or another, someone loses out, so later on down the line, why can't it be down to server administrators to decide? servers with no vehicles servers with land and air vehicles servers with just land vehicles servers with just air vehicles so if you dont like helis/planes in this game, then dont join a server where they are active.

the only reason i think this would be a good idea, is if you are trying to keep to the theme of "beginning of the apocalypse" where the last pockets of military are bombing towns and such to try and save whats left of humanity. For what most people play dayz for, i say NO. It is feasable to say that a good number of civillians may be lucky to have a pilots licence and are able to fly a censer or a helicopter, if you have the money and time to do that as a hobby. But Ramp starting a fighter plane? Really? I play DCS world and can do a ramp start on an a10 Warthog in about 6 minutes, get it combat ready and in the air within 2 minutes after that. No standard civilian that worked at walmart or a cop is able to just jump into a fighter plane, switch it on and even get it rolling, let alone take it up and do straffing runs, its just not going to happen. Even if they did manage to get the right ramp start sequence right, the fact it takes ground crew to fuel it and many other things taken into play. Just keep the civillian aircraft in game, that would would normally find at an airfield. Cesner, bell ranger helicopter and a microlight. On the flip side, Building a mozzie from spare parts collected round the map would be an awesome touch. All you would need to do that is nothing more than a lawnmower engine, a chair, some scrap metal & chopped wood. With a bit of fuel added into a canteen. There you go. why find a vehicle when you can literally go full scrap yard challenge and MAKE one, it would also fit the apocalyptic theme of improvised crafting

why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!
archamedes replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I know what you mean, I want the biped to fit on the makarov, but it won't. Damn, even if it could mount the zuccini would be a bonus, but it doesn't, because its not designed for them, just as it's not designed for the mosin. -
Anyone getting bored of Standalone?
archamedes replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I like the banter me and my friends have. We have just recently changed style of play and gone onto a private persistence server because we like the idea of setting up a campsite, calling it home & struggling to find loot when in non persistent servers loot spawns everywhere and replens after 2-4 hours. That said I spent a lot of time playing Dayz Epoch, met a lot of people via the side chat, made a lot of allies and friends who i would bump into and not get shot by because we had all spoke at some point on the chat and knew who each other were and how we played. Dayz epoch also never got boring for me because i literally spent months building my base, slowly collected all the supplies, traded when needed and even had a nice little safe house set up at a spawn point. Was good fun. Dayz standalone with persistence on kind of has the very small elements of that, instead of feeling like a bunch of hobos robbing houses. -
Animals spin in one place. Humorous bugs FTW!

animals and zombies dropping dead when running down a hill -
just been on 2 villayer private persistence servers and both are respawning loot after restart. Also one of them is run by my friend and he has it set to 6 hour restarts, but everything he tries to assign gets disregarded and changed back to 4 hours and turns persistence off. Anyone else getting this?
-
i actually haven't no, because I assumed others already knew about it & I have seen pages and pages of people repeating the same issues on the dev blog that I didn't want to be another one
-
yes every time I set up a camp site somewhere, a few days later there is a loot bomb in a circular location around whatever buildings are nearby
-
i have found that if you are on a server with persistence on and you find a few buildings with massive amounts of loot, it usually means there is a tent nearby. True story
-
I'm using a private persistent server, its late in the week, canned goods are rare, weapons are very rare, so any rounds have to be used as a last resort. So with that I set up camp in the woods, make a fire, dig a garden plot with various vegetables I gained from harvesting seeds. Then I survive using water from ponds, and rainwater while feeding on hunting and crops. When I have cooked my steaks I then craft clothing from animal hides & become a real life frontiersman. This is survival, this is the apocalypse, no 5 minutes of getting fully geared by tripping into a town and finding everything within the first few houses. Its challenging, its testing your limits and it is survival of the fittest. Forget your camping bandits and kill on sight players, I survive using the crafted bow and arrow & crafted knife, kill what I need to & not contribute to the end of the human species
-
i could but cooking fish is bugged at the moment
-
So far about 3 days. With persistence on, loot only gets replenished after the Wednesday maintenance so we have 7 days of no loot respawn. With that in mind if you have cleared out everything in a town you have to travel further and later in the week other players are more reluctant to shoot you because every round they find counts and if they miss or get caught in a firefight it's not worth the risk

Got a couple of suggestions, not sure if any or all have been mentioned before, if they have then i guess the more people that ask may get the ball rolling so to speak. 1. Canned food should be rare. I mean come on its the apocalypse, these would be the first things to go. I hate walking into a small town and getting fully fed within minutes of spawning in. I think canned food should be ultra rare forcing players to actually use the horticulture, hunting and fishing feature. 2. Making fires using sticks instead of matches, going old school by rubbing them together. Its simple, a classic survival tactic and helps with survivalists who want to avoid using gear from towns. 3. player goes into a sleep animation when spawning out, and waking up when spawning in. Even better touch if done inside a tent. 4. Actually having proper recipes to mix food with and gain better energy when a full meal is crafted. Likes rice & beans, steak & potatoes, fruit salad & tomato soup. This would work better if it actually took a lot longer for your character to heal when you first get energized, or recover from wounds. Instead of eating a can of cold beans, actually get healthier if the beans are cooked and mixed with a variety of different recipes to make a proper meal. 5. Actually pull an ashwood stick from an ashwood tree instead of cutting it down with an axe (Mainly for survivalists who want to avoid using factory made tools) 6. Using hemp to make rope instead of finding rope in a garage to use as an alternate for a bow/improvised fishing rod
-
ok then have a slight chance of finding a stick in the woods when searching for kindling that can be used to craft a bow

.53 upgrade New item list? Let's start one!
archamedes replied to danfinger (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
nope. you either take the risk, or empty the canteen there and then and fill it up yourself with water you know is safe -
.53 upgrade New item list? Let's start one!
archamedes replied to danfinger (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
poisoned canteen. Yes I'm not joking, the new trick ingame is to fill canteens and waterbottles with gasoline and leave them for players to drink. Instant poison kill. Its genius really, you don't even need to risk getting into a firefight and after they die you can loot their bodies and put the canteen in a new place & do it all over again -
Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?
archamedes replied to BC_Hawke's topic in General Discussion
I like that they are adding newer and bigger buildings, we have to remember this map was originally meant to be played as a military simulator, where most if not all the action happened outside and all the buildings were merely only decoration. Look at the old arma 2 apartments, compared to the new ones. look at how huge the prison complex is, I literally got lost and still found more areas i missed earlier. Also the leaked screens of the new high school, which will hopefully replace the current school. loving the fact that they are thinking of bigger and newer buildings to make the game deeper and have more life. I only hope they make a newer bigger hospital with different departments, unlock that big warehouse building that was open in arma 2 which is actually closed in dayz sa. In general there are huge buildings they could potentially add that players could get lost or hide in, like a walmart style supermarket. Even a chernobyl style abandoned theme park -
i had a chinese for dinner, surprised me actually, came in large portions

So yeah, about that new Alcatraz island............
archamedes replied to darkrider400's topic in General Discussion
all i wanna do is capture a player, strip him down nd lock him in a cell -
do you ever see Daryl Dixon Eating cold beans out of a can? Fuck no, he's picking cooked squirrel and rabbit out of his teeth bruh. I think the canned food should only have a positive effect in game if its cooked. For instance throw a can of beans onto a fire and you then see the name change to "cooked beans" Even have a little steam icon above it, same with spaghetti & bacon. Help foece the canned food to be cooked rather than chowed down raw. Secondly, I want to actually create usable recipes like fruit salad, soups, cooked rice in the pot mixed with water from the canteen, damn even get drunk effects from drinking too much rasputin kvass. I know thats not related, but wanted to say that one for a long time but didnt want to dedicate a whole thread for it

my fireplaces keep vanishing when i place the 5 sticks onto it.
