The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
ColonelBurton replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
I need to blow some steam off, so here goes. This is one of the hottest threads on this forum, and that worries me. The game would be quite fine with the guns it has and another, say, 5-10 additions. The real problem of the game, something that urgently needs work, is the melee system. Just saying. Keep it in mind. There is so much talk about military guns that lots of people are so keen on seeing in DayZ because they rocked it in another video-game like Battlefield, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor or whatever. But this is DayZ. It is about survival. And survival means that if a dude with an M4 is hunting a slightly geared bambi in Svetlojarsk, the bambi actually has a good chance of defending himself when hunkering up in the top floor of a building wielding and axe. Because YOU WOULDN'T SWING IT DOWNWARDS when the guy enters the room BUT LAUNCH IT SIDEWAYS into the doorframe in order to have a 99% hit chance with the only question being WHAT DO YOU HIT! Check out Krav Maga videos for some strategies of unarmed melee combatants against people wielding guns. These kinds of fights were very common in World War II when Germans and Allied Forces faced off inside town buildings because rifles are a b*tch to handle indoors. Fact is that somebody in a closed environment that is wielding an assault rifle has less of a chance against an unarmed combatant than somebody wielding a pistol due to maneuverability. The game incorporates NOTHING realistic when it comes to close quarters combat. Maybe we can all put a lot of focus on this. Don't take it personal if you've been posting on this thread often, I have too, and I understand why the topic is so hot. But the threads I've posted on concerning melee are DEAD although this is one of the major weak points of the game and merit more attention than "do we need the G3 or the FN FAL in the game"? -
Deer Stands - What Do You Want To Spawn There?
ColonelBurton replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
This is the kind of thinking I don't get. Why "primarily clothes"? Why would you find a pair of pants there?? Do hunters take craps in the deerstand while suddenly getting overrun by the zombie apocalypse? Or did the hunter just always keep a pair of spare pants there? Jackets and shirts, okay, you might take those off on a hot day and forget or leave them there just so or due to necessity of flight. But why would you find boots or pants in a deerstand. My list: Common: - olive and black tac-shirts, camo jackets, camo hats - matches - rope - burlap sack - food like MRE (alternately "hunters meal") or canned tuna - water bottle Uncommon: - hunters backpack - canteen - map & compass - machete & knives (the game needs way more knife spawns - you find far more guns and machetes than decent knives which is super unrealistic!) - binoculars Rare: - mosin - SKS - double-barrel shotgun - blaze - LR scope and PU scope - small quantities of both 7.62 ammo (mosin and SKS) types and buckshot rounds, but no full packs (no snaploaders or clips) - other than black and olive tac-vest, no military gear at all! I might be missing something, of course, but all in all, I think this is what I can come up with -

I agree fully. Guns like the M14 or M16 should not make their way into the game. Let's just leave these relics to rest in peace. If you add the M16 you might as well add the Chauchat FM1915 *LOL* -

Why ask for your 30 dollars back when some day, the mods will make this game awesome ;o) Also, what is your problem with the PM-63 since you're not really saying why you think it's ridiculous. I mean, Colt Python I really can understand, I think this one and the Blaze have nothing to do with Chernarus. -

In general I guess the tendency will be to make it a more mainstream game. Later you'll be respawning with more and more gear the more experience points you gathered from killing zombies, players and even bambis. Mark my words... -
I get the impression that since the update, bodies disappear faster. Recently glitched off the stairs but was right back where I died within 15-20 minutes, and my body gone. And even on high-pop servers I have not found a single dead body of a person yet.

Well I know about boars, deer and cows (though I haven't seen a cow yet). Today out hunting from the deerstand I noticed that rabbits move differently now. They seem three-dimensional now as opposed to a two-dim sprite that sort of slid past the screen, now they actually seem to hop through the grass. Then, just now, a zombie aggro'd into the town I am nearby. First, I thought this was going to end in a PvP confrontation and got prepared. Then I noticed the zombie was chasing something that was hopping in front of it! Definitely not a boar, too small. So, seeing as the zombie was apparently hunting a rabbit... can you hunt and eat rabbits, too??
-
The game needs handbags ;o) At least I'd find it hilarious to see a zombie lady roaming the town with her handbag still in her hand.

I guess this is slightly off-topic, but I didn't want to start a new one. Anybody else get the feeling that since the update, some weapons and long-range firing plain and simply sucks? While everybody else is running around desperate to find an AKM or heli crash site, I've been getting into firefights with any weapon I could find, and gone on some hunts. Here are some excerpts of my experiences since the update -Fired about 25 shots with the Magnum at a stationary zombie out of the firestation tower. Range about 120 meters.. Tried all sorts of bullet drop etc. Dumped the thing afterwards cuz it was no longer pristine... - Double headshotted a stationary guy wearing a motorbike helmet with the Blaze (the first was a 100% aim). No hit. Then switched to SKS and hip-fired 5 rounds at him, all missed. Average distance 3-4 meters! The guy wasn't moving and I had no high ping or desync. What the hell???? - Fired two buchs with double-barrel (not sawed-off) at a guy. One at distance 4 meters the other POINT BLANK!!!!! No hit. - Fired ten bucks with double-barrel (not sawed-off) at zombies moving up to me. Distance ranging from point blank to 3 meters. Three hits. WTF????? - Fired about 5 rounds with the longhorn at a stationary zombie at distance of roughly 300 meters. Tried all sorts of range-finding. No hit - Fired about 15 rounds with the SKS at a stationary zombie at a distance of roughly 300 meters with a worn scope. Tried direct aiming with zeroing at 300 and also aimed a few too high, too low, slightly left, slightly right. No hit. - Fired about 10 rounds with SKS at zombies approaching me. I would say definitely 90% were clear hits, but I only scored three hits. - Scopes jump about erratically although I am not injured but healthy. Apart from that, I already had two encounters with zombies in the game where I got hit ONCE and immediately my riders jacket / green hoodie went from pristine to either ruined (riders jacket) or badly damaged (hoodie) and all the gear inside ruined. The game has literally become almost unplayable for me. I wonder if I am just extremely unlucky since the update or if anyone else has noticed this. Because if the devs changed something to make shooting those guns harder, then that means that players wielding the M4 and AKM are the only ones with a chance at winning a firefight, whether at close range or medium range because they have high rpm and a lot of ammo (up to 75!!) in the gun. EDIT: I have to add that before the update, and even on the latest experimental build, I did not have these issues when using the same gear. I once sniped a zombie at 400 meters with the SKS with just three shots, or shot a boar at 250 meters with just two shots. So it really isn't a lack of skill.
-
Maybe someday when they fix the double-barrel, hunting for rabbits will make some sense ;o)
-
I think it should stay that way.
-
It's funny you should say that, because since the update, I feel like all the scoped guns jump and skip around like crazy. Just fired off a few shots with the SKS (worn scope) and a pristine longhorn. Target range about 300. Roughly 20 shots, not a single hit. And I really dropped off each single shot when I was at least 99% sure. They've done something to the scope precision and to the zeroing.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
ColonelBurton replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
I don't know why it would fit the scenario and why the fact that it is a specialised weapon could make it be good with gameplay. I do agree that there should be something like a .50 sniper rifle as mentioned earlier, one with massive firepower, range and accuracy that can rip a car engine apart in one shot. But with really rare ammunition. But if this is implemented, it should 1.) be a complete weapon (not parts scattered all through Chernarus) 2.) Gun should be more than extremely rare 3.) ammo should be extremely rare and only found in small quantities of 1-2 pieces 4.) should hinder movement massively But I also agree that there is a drive towards too many military weapons in this community. I also think that more weapons commonly found within civilian ownership should show up more often in the game, particularly those of European and eastern European make. Also, I think the game should have way more handguns (including clip!) and less rifles. I find more SKS rifles in the game than I do Sporters or Double-Barrels -
Game crashes after new server update.
ColonelBurton replied to General Zod's topic in Troubleshooting
Does it happen to you when you join for the first time? Or does it only happen after a reset or joining a new server? I ask because I get this too, had it about three times this morning. But only after admins abused their powers by constantly resetting the servers. Crashed roughly 30 - 90 seconds into the new server join. -
Wow is it me or has server / admin abuse run RAMPANT since the new update??? My favorite servers keep restarting, then one guy runs around in it password secured and after 10 minutes, the server is opened only to be restart again after roughly 10 minutes. Took some screens, one italian server admin is really going over the top with it ATM Any way of reporting this??

Random chopper sites. I found my AKM on the top of the factory building South of Berezino by the way. The hard part will be finding a clip. I searched the airfields roughly a dozen times and didn't find a single one! But later I was surprised to find one in a construction site building

I actually went up to a few saying "Are you the one?? PLEASE!! I MUST KNOW!!! ARE ... YOU... THE... ONE??" None ever responded but they sometimes put their fists up and went for me => instakill Most ran away sadly. The idea was to tell them that there is reason to celebrate (then offer them a Rasputin Kvass), since we have now found the cure for the outbreak. Then tell them, that unfortunately, the cure is in their head and I have to take it out of them (EDIT: then go for my axe). Then run after them trying to convince them that this is for the greater good of all humanity!!

Thanks for the info, I think I was wrong with Cherno. I'm at the spot where I thought it happened but no containers at the docks. Are they at Elektro? EDIT: Forget it. It seems that it was Guba Bay / Svetlojarsk where it happened. It's the only place I could find with that large hangar like building and some freight containers right by the docks.

So after playing for 200 hours I had some weird experiences with cover and concealment. To make it clear what I mean: Cover: protection from enemy fire Concealment: visually being concealed / harder to spot First off, I noticed that grass and plants hinder you when sniping, but do not offer concealment when being scoped. That is a bit of a nuisance and obviously needs to change in some way towards finalization. I suppose that all plants that surround a player should go through a separate rendering process. What I also noticed is that you can take fire through, say, a wooden wardrobe, but will find cover hiding behind a bush (or at least certain bushes)? Also, I blasted a guy through a mesh wire fence with the sawed off (less than 4 meters distance) and he didn't take a scratch. Could be chance, could also have been lag (I always have bad lag and rubberbanding in Polana) but it seemed like the fence was giving him cover. Anybody else consistently notice stuff like this?

So I'd like some advice. I recently got murdered as a relative freshspawn, and I think it was in Chernogorsk though I can't be sure. Almost knocked the guy out but he had an M4 with seemingly unlimited ammo. According to my subjective, personal opinion guaranteed in Western society by a variety of basic rights, the guy was a n00b (boy did he suck at shooting) and a douche, and I figure most people that run around fully geared hunting freshspawn are that type of person. So I'd like to go out and hunt the hunters as it were. So in your experiences, where do mass murdering people tend to hang around? I'm not asking about people looking for conflict such as at NEAF or NWAF, I mean people that come in geared like special forces to go hunt freshspawn that just started gearing up.

I noticed on stable the M4 ammo is so common some people are literally loaded down with it, then go to towns to mass murder freshspawn. The ones I encountered doing it couldn't shoot for shit so they really needed that much ammo, too. But I can tell you there's going to be one LMG that people won't have such a hard time finding the ammo for: the PKM ;o) -

I see, you're talking about Anti-materiel rifles then? -
I still don't understand why it shouldn't be possible to find an extremely rare "Picatinny for G3" item that enables using the M4 scopes (ACOG etc.) As long as they find a way of making the player feel the bulkiness and weight of the weapon along with scarceness of the ammunition, this will make most players think twice about picking the gun up. After all, surviving in this game is not only about how powerful the weapon is but also how you move around, how you keep an eye on your surroundings. Besides, a noob with a scoped G3 will be as useless as with the SKS and a progamer with a G3 will consider dumping the gun when he sees how much more common the Mosin ammo is. Regarding why the Bundeswehr ditched the G3 for the G36 I got another input from a friend. He said it might have to do with the "aim to maim" doctrine, seeing as 5.56 is less likely to be lethal than 7.62 - but I think the main reason for the change was the fact that the role of the Bundeswehr changed from "Holding off the Soviets at the Fulda gap until NATO moves in" to more urban combat roles such as in the Balkans and Afghanistan, and the fact that the G3 needs a far more skilled rifleman to handle it properly Speaking of skilled riflemen, check these guys out. They really know how to handle an AK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zuc5qxSYjUs

It's about the awezomenezz I guess I don't really care, give it to them. Let them spend five hours looking for some spoilt US Colonel's prestige sidearm, then another five hours looking for the clip that mysteriously got separated from its' weapon.... then let them knock themselves out firing it for the first time ^^ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cWZqkCQ57A
