From the basic bicycle mechanic they can quickly move towards motor bikes and off road bikes, which would allow them to design and test all those mechanics you mentioned. They are just taking baby steps in the process. Personally I hope they don't over do vehicles, I don't want to see military grade vehicles and the game map already seems small enough without adding in vehicular travel.

Not a big fan of it myself either, I would rather they had spent that time upon something critical. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying we shouldn't have it but it should have been some where near the bottom of the list of things to do.

Will 0.49 stable bring persistence to everyone
Briljin replied to theirongiant's topic in General Discussion
Well hopefully they will start cracking down upon some of these servers that are trying to run "persistent" servers right now. Because 90% of the FL ones run by "Gameservers" are just persistently f'ed up and down... -
One weird trick to avoid upcoming character wipe
Briljin replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
We hope, otherwise they are just going to piss off a bunch of people once the duping starts up again... -
We don't have an accurate view of what the game is going to be like to really make any kind of discussion about this. They are still tweaking item spawning and rotting, not to mention we have a 40 man cap and probably less than 10% of the servers are running any where close to that number. I am sure once we start getting 100+ man servers and a fine tuned item spawning system things will be a bit more difficult.

persistent servers not being persistent
Briljin replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
Well all the FL servers are basically broken again, stuck at 14:00 and unable to join. If they are getting a valid response back then they need to completely redesign that system because it shouldn't be testing to see if they are up but up and ready for game play. -
What kind of horrible ass snipers do you have on first person? Do they just stand in open windows waving flags around? You act like it is impossible to shot someone while their target it completely unaware unless you are peeking around a wall...

Many times I have been fired upon by those who declare themselves as "friendly". Lets be honest, just because someone says they are "friendly" doesn't actually make it so and often it is just used as a ploy to get others to lower their guard. As a friendly players, it is something you just have to accept and be ready to deal with.

Has dayZ succeeded in being a different type of game?
Briljin replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Pretty dead one. A PvE world will quickly become static and easy to deal with once players learn it's "rules". The true wild card is going to be interaction with other players, we are the truly difficult part in any PvP enabled game. You act like the choice is between having a gun or having food. Not to mention someone with a gun could just take your food... I seriously doubt loot is going to become rare enough that this even becomes a problem and if it does, banditry would go thru the roof. -
Odd because my experiences raiding various military outpost have been radically different. I am having a hell of a time keeping up with 5.56 ammo for my M4 and I have actually found more ammo for it from copter crashes than any place else. I find a f'ing ton of empty mags (often ruined...), so maybe they are clogging up the loot respawn on me.

One could argue that neither have ambient sounds... That has been my experience as well. I thought it would make a decent zed gun after they f'ed up the melee hit boxes but I found that it would still attract zeds in the nearby area.

persistent servers not being persistent
Briljin replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
Well it made me a bit more blood thirsty than normal. I was running really low on 5.56 rounds and I couldn't find any no matter what military outpost I went to (they were either completely empty or badly damaged boots and berets) but I came across another survivor with a 101. Needless to say I was thankfully to add the mag and a half he had to my wares. I probably wouldn't have killed him before for ammo but I didn't give it a second thought this time around. I kind of felt bad when less than an hour later I found 2 heli crash sites with ammo... -
A couple of times I got stuck in a loop of the zombie aggro noise. It was like every couple of seconds I would hear one scream out, it freaked me out the first couple of times but after a couple of minutes it just became annoying as hell. I even stopped looking around to see if a zombie was actually after me and eventually I just had to log to clear it. The really need to refine the ambient noises.

Two helicopter crash sites at balota in one server
Briljin replied to willhelm's topic in General Discussion
I found two at the east end of the NWAF Saturday. Saved my butt as I was down to about 20 rounds for my M4. -
I have not seen one stopped by a single door yet. Walls, yeah they don't just clip through them any more but doors may as well not exist for them...

persistent servers not being persistent
Briljin replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
I noticed something odd as well with the servers. I have basically all the FL servers on my "favs" list (friend and I are both in FL) and after a reset Sunday morning only half of them actually came back up. The reset would show up in the list but were forever stuck at 14:00 and you could spend all day at the "waiting for host" screen and it wouldn't matter. Matter of fact almost all servers seemed to have an excessive "waiting for host" delay, even when I hadn't played in a couple of hours. Honestly they need to do some better policing of the servers on the list. If they are not getting valid responses back from there, they need to be locked on the server selection page until they are fixed. -
This game is and always will be way too military focused by players
Briljin replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Today it's military gear, tomorrow it is Mosins and SKs and the next day it will be rocks are OP. Some people are just never happy if someone else is enjoying themselves. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Briljin replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
They are glitchy as hell but not really OP. They do tend to make you bleed a lot and they probably do way too much damage to gear but the one that that annoys me the most is their ability to detect me from f'ing miles away. I was helping a friend gear up and after hitting up the Pavlovo military outpost and leaving town we spent the next several minutes deal with zombies coming from that town. We killed ONE in town with a fire axe and for that we spent the next five minutes killing one and twos charging at us while we where well outside of the town and never firing a shot. -
Please wait... (while someone puts a machete in your face)
Briljin replied to sachad's topic in General Discussion
That is great, if only the world was perfect and Day never crash, you lose connection or there at least gave warning before server resets... -
Same here, I played last night and didn't notice any key binding changes. I could still double tap "W" to to run just fine.

Is it any less cowardly than ambushing your target at close range? If you want an honorable fight, you are living in the wrong century.

POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
Briljin replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
It's not that they don't want to survive but lets be honest, the majority of the time you are rendered unconscious your not coming back. You may sit there for several minutes and still die due to blood lose. I would be fine with 30 seconds because by will give a player who might want to interact with me enough time to do so and for me to determine if they are just going to be a prick who wants to screw with me or not. Seriously, did you just say "realism" while talking about a play style in a zombie apocalypse? Yeah nothing screams realism more than the undead and honestly, that is not even the most unrealistic aspect of the game... -
DayZ Standalone makes my internet connection struggle

This happens to me all the time when I am on experimental, it's not an issue on stable. -
POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
Briljin replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure that is already the case. I believe logging out while unconscious kills you or am I wrong and that only applies if you are restrained? And? They still can do that. No one is suggesting that going unconscious would result in an immediate respawn. They can hang with it and see it through to the end if they want. I wouldn't care if I am just being robbed, I can replace the gear easy enough. It when you get into the force feeding me crap, breaking my legs or other BS that I want to be able to just respawn. That and I don't want to sit there for 5 minutes slowly bleeding out, only to die... -
POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
Briljin replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
And this why you are clearly not a game developer. Nothing draws in the player base more than rewarding them with sitting there staring at a blank screen for 10 minutes, just so they can probably die at the end. Not to mention it would just be quicker to exit the game and sit out the 3 or so minute timer (and that only applied if you recently changed servers). I could see adding a 30 second pause before you can respawn but lets be honest a second. The chances that things are not going to go down some dark path while you are unconscious is not that great and forcing players to endure what someone else calls "fun" is not really in the best interest of the game. Yes it may not be realistic but try and remember we are talking about a zombie apocalypse. Yeah, totally realistic there...
