I have had stairs break my legs a couple of times (it has been a while) and I have died once from a ladder but it was because the server lagged and I some how fell off it. Other than that I really haven't noticed any issue but then I tend to avoid ladders, not due to being worried that I will die from them but how utterly defenseless you are while upon them.

No more so than magically healing a broken bone with a rag and stick. Just eating human flesh doesn't automatically mean you will get the crazies, there is just a chance that you will. Yes in real life it would take a long time for the effects to actually kick in but this isn't real life or at least I haven't seen an zombies walking around my office yet today...

Of course your correct, he could just allow them to charge him and knock him out with a lucky punch. Sorry but I am on his side here, charging head long at someone isn't friendly regardless of you yelling it out. Now if I am in a forgiving mood I will only take out a leg but otherwise I will leave their broken body and walk away shaking my head...

Welcome to the JUNGLE - 24/7 Daytime - Active Admins
Briljin replied to The Riddler (DayZ)'s topic in Servers
Spent some time playing on your server the other day and it was nice. Ran into some none KOS players, had some good PvP and even got to play during some night cycle. Added to my favorites list and I will be spending more time here, very good server. -
Clearing up the "No message received for x seconds" message
Briljin replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
I sat here and thought about it for a few minutes and I can not remember once seeing a message warning that a server was about to reset. I have seen a warning on logging in that a server will reset every <insert number here> hours but not an actually warning in advance of the reset. -
Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
Briljin replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Yeah because nothing screams "realistic" like, oh shit wait. I am being attacked by a zombie at my desk!!! No one is against more realistic game mechanics but saying that something needs to be changed simply because it is unrealistic isn't a good enough excuse, unless you are going to suggest we remove zombies? I think we can all agree that is probably the most unrealistic aspect of the game and yet we both know that isn't going to happen either. You have to reach a balancing point, between realism and fun. Again I am not against slowing down movement, (hell I stopped using sprint expect in emergencies or when I need to quickly cross a danger area) but there are far more unrealistic game mechanics that could use some improvement first. -
Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

And eating half a cow keeps me full longer than an hour... -
Well then you have had much better luck with players than I have over the holiday. I ran into 2 people who were friendly (in one instance we exchanged shots but he was spooked by my presence and I only shot him in the leg), the other dozen or so were completely violent encounters. Two of them with cannibals hunting me down while I was a bambi. I tried being the nice guy but I am back to shot first, shot second and shot once more just to be sure.

I would be fine if they made the running more realistic but it would have to come with a revamp of the rest of the current movement system. Even Minecraft has a better movement system. -
In the four hours I have played tonight, I count myself lucky if a server stays up for half an hour...

I started playing with 2 friends, both of who have basically quit at this point (bugs and hacking turned them off of beta) and now a days I am almost always lone world. The game is very different when you go from playing with friends to solo, you have to be more careful because you no longer have someone watching your back.
-
Unless I am with friends and they can secure my body, I don't bother trying to run back unless I spawn really close. I would just rather start fresh than spend time killing myself over an over just to hope I can get a spawn closer to my death point.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Briljin replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Twist and twist, keep twisting those numbers until they support your point of view. Clearly those that voted that 3pp should be changed (which I was one of) would never side with the camp that says it should be removed. So while they both support a change, it is clearly not the same change. Removing a play style is not the same as fixing a "bug" with that play style. Like I said, I could easily look at these results and say that we should remove 1pp because clearly the vast majority of players don't like it! The numbers clearly show that, who cares if that isn't the actually intent expressed. -

Briljin replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Well that is only if you include the camp that thinks 3pp should be removed all together. If you only include those that want 3pp but thing it needs to be changed, it is a little more than half those that think 3pp is fine as it is. Seeing saying something needs to be changed isn't the same as saying something shouldn't exist. The funny thing about numbers, if your willing to twist them enough you can use them to prove anything. Hell I could say that according to that poll we should remove 1pp because nearly 75% of the player base doesn't like it. -

Actually it just reduces the dumb ass factor, those people who don't actually know how to find a good place to sit in ambush. Sure you have to expose yourself but there is plenty of concealment in cities for one to hide in, the roof is just the easy way out and actually tends to be countered by snipers who know better. It gives everyone the same advantage, just not always at the same time. Just like someone can peak over the roof of the hospital to watch for players, you can peak around the corner of a hallway before you walk into a trap. Like most advantages in Dayz, they just don't always apply equally all the time. And while "peaking" isn't realistic, neither is our ability to observe our surroundings in 1pp because it only represents two senses (and doesn't do a great job with those two). The dynamic camera could be a decent idea, at least worth looking into but I would be worried about the camera jerking around as I move between buildings and such. I don't want to fight with the camera to maintain a point of view, I just don't want it drifting over a wall or around a corner. Anyone have a decent video from a game using this type of system? -
I would be fine with less found, provided the stream line the requirements for things like fishing or cooking. Then adjust the system for burning off food and becoming hunger once again. I mean how many of you can sit down and eat almost an entire pig in real life and then be hungry an hour later?!? I am all for a more realistic system but that doesn't just mean less cans of food.
-
Well considering we all know how to hunt, clean and prepare wild game. We can not only operate but maintain every weapon in the world, have great first add skills (how many of you can stitch up a knife wound, let alone remove a bullet or set a broken leg). So yeah, a few years into a zombie apocalypse I would imagine those still around are there because they aren't ordinary citizens.

That is my one and only concern with them trying to "fix" wall peaking. A change of this size would require a lot of testing and this couldn't be released as so bug ridden feature. If done correctly it would be a nice improvement (as I really dislike 1pp and wall peaking) but it has to be pretty damn perfect or a large percentage of the player base will be pissed off that you ruined their game experience to deal with something they don't see as an issue. -

Briljin replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Not surprising, the polls show that 3pp is still very popular with only about 20% completely against it. So about 30% still like it but think some changes could be made, not really a surprise. -
I would be fine, provided they actually fix the issues that lead to needing a wipe in the first place. This problem was reported several times during the testing and yet, here we are.
-
Are you crazy, that is almost instant death! Oh wait, your talking RL and not Dayz... I am all for more realistic game mechanics, once they actually fix the current movement system to be more realistic.
-
I am willing to give BE the benefit of the doubt that they are only looking for cheat related activity (lets be clear, we can only take them at their word unless we are allowed to decompile the code to see for ourselves) but I sure hope they have this code secured and it is heavily monitored to ensure it is not compromised. There are a lot of complaints about cheating, so they are taking a rather large step to try and root it out. Hopefully it works.
-
Yes, it should. This is not just some small annoyance we are talking about. I am fine with small bugs flying under the radar while they work upon more important stuff but when going above the first floor in a building can randomly result in your death, that isn't a small thing.

This has fooled me more than once in that large field and the worst part if you are the one that triggered the re-explosion on yourself. So in essence you just trolled yourself :)

One of my biggest gripes about the game at this point is the horrible jumping system. I was blocked in a barracks room this weekend by a dead zed and player, after spending a few minutes trying to escape I finally gave up and logged out to avoid someone investigating the gun shots and shooting me like a fish in a barrel. Honestly, how did "vault" survive this long? I heard the movement is something they are working upon but it can not come fast enough. Thanks for the tip Ricp!
