Odd I don't have any issues with rain causing my FPS to drop.
-
I really hope this over heating is a bug. I just logged out because I was bored because I had just spent the last 15 minutes sitting in a pond (at night, in the rain) and I was still over heating. I was finally getting the :"I am slowly cooling off" message, in between 5 or 6 "I am over heating" ones... I am starting to think we may need to play naked...

Are high capacity vests currently spawning?
Briljin replied to Ransurias's topic in General Discussion
Yeah they are out there, I am currently wearing a green one and my buddy found a black one. We found 3 US crash site, no M4s but some mags, ammo and butt stocks. -
I ran into this last night. I was playing cat and mouse with two less than friendly players around the NWAF and I started getting this message. It was night time and raining, so I took off my gorka jacket and got myself soaked. It lowered me to just "hot" but if I put the jacket back on I would start warming up again. I eventually just ditched the jacket for a non gorka one and used the rain to try and cool me off. I did notice that my hydration seemed to drop much faster, so I would assume that as long as you can stay hydrated you should be fine.

[0.58] Persistence Breaks Servers
Briljin replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well to be fair, they were wiping persistence like every week on EXP and I do remember a couple of post mentioning really bad interaction lag when around very large camps. -
Hand gestures are only going to take you so far. I tend to be very cautious around people without mics, more so if they don't even type in direct.
-
Let me save you a headache and tell you where to NOT setup camp

The northern and western edges of the map are among the first places I plan to look once I get some basic gear tonight. I just know people will actually believe these areas are good hiding spots, they did on EXP all the time... -
Building basic sheds or shelters is very easy to accomplish and does't require all that much in regards to tools. As a teen I had built servers hunting blinds, stands and a portable ice fishing shed without much trouble. Now I am more interested in building able to build up and secure already existing buildings. I could easily see taking up in some hidden away cabin as a base of operations for my friends and me, with a shelter out someplace with a backup stash.

Whatever happened to the zombie increase promisses?
Briljin replied to kumando's topic in General Discussion
I am sure we will see more and more AI entities once they can get them working without being a huge drain upon server resources. That is the real problem with them right now, when they added the hordes on a test server recently it ran so much worse then the other EXP servers that they brought it down in about a day. Just give them time and things will get sorted out. -
What are you looking forward to most with 0.58 stable?
Briljin replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
The return of the M4! Ok, that and a half decent CLE with persistence and the guard shacks fixed. -
Yep no one would abuse that period of immunity to fall damage. Not like fall damage is the only way to kill yourself (even with the suicide option), it is nearly as easy to drown yourself or just let a zed kill you. Don't get me wrong, I am not for a player being able to pick their spawn point but I would bet a lot of people do it so they can get closer spawn points to friends. God, not me. I hate both of those spawn points with a passion. I would much rather spawn in the north or west sections of the map. Hell even Svet is a good option.
-
Then unless they are willing to add some kind of suicide penalty, people will continue to do it to try and get a closer spawn point. I am fine with random spawn points, I just wish there where more of them inland or on the northern/western sections of the map but then I tend to play alone so I don't have to worry about trying to get back to my friends.
-
Agreed, add to that a better variety of spawn points. It would be nicer if you could be redirected to ones closer to friends but outside of them adding some kind of grouping system I am not sure how that would work. Oh and I like spawning in Svet, it's a nice town wtih access to major northern resources that almost no one every visit. Call me crazy :)

For point blank in their face CQB, the sawed off every day of the week. Yet outside of that point blank range, the SMG starts to gain in strength. Honestly, I am more comfortable using a 74U for CQB, just wish it could mount a red-dot sight...
-
Now that the Mosin no longer takes any kind of long range scope, it has become a second tier weapon. That AK74 will be off much greater value, having the same range and better CQB value.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Briljin replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
All you have to do is look at the population of 1pp to 3pp servers to see. If "the majority" of players wanted to play in 1pp only mode then the 1pp servers would be flooded and the 3pp servers would be empty, yet it is the opposite. So clearly the 300'ish votes is not indicative of "the majority". -
Yeah, learned that the hard way. I found a tent the other night and quickly went to finding a secluded spot to stash some extra gear only to find out a few minutes later when the server restarted that tents are pointless...

Briljin replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't rage about it but I would just quit playing and move on to another game. I have enjoyed my time playing Dayz, so would still feel I got my moneys worth and just move on to another game. -
Discussion about weapon slots on your back
Briljin replied to Zyryanoff's topic in General Discussion
Try and remember that in real life, putting something in a back pack isn't the only way to carry items. Weapon can be slung over a shoulder or left to free hang with a combat sling, with some rope and duct tape you could create a make shift sling for that axe (not to mention a machete tend to have their own sheaths for carrying them around). Yes the current system is not realistic but not just not in the way you think. -
I am always a little shocked when I go from Arma 3 Epoch to Dayz. The FPS is so much better in Arma 3, even with graphics cranked up. Hopefully the optimization will come soon and make a large improvement, I have certain areas I just try and avoid because I know they are an FPS hell hole...

Bullets don't go through walls, why do zombie attacks?
Briljin replied to DesertSage's topic in General Discussion
I just recently starting messing around with Arma 3 Epoch and that took me by surprise. It makes you think a little hard about that flimsy picket fence one would normally hide behind. -
They can, they just have to pay for a PRIVATE server. Otherwise their public server is open to anyone who wants to join it. Thus are the rules, people either play by them of get the fuck out.
-
I am really liking the changes to northern part of the map. Now it's not just some long abandoned road and train track. Several decent size towns and a dotting of smaller villages, makes for great out of the lay looking.
-
Just in the last several patches they have added hunting, fishing, farming and now cannibalism. Even if they made these harder, there are still enough options (plus canned and fresh food) that food generally isn't going to be that difficult to gain. Sure right now these mechanics are a little too easy but then who the hell eats and entire deer and then is hungry a few hours later? Both systems are unrealistic and will probably be changed together. Because in a game were resources are slim, there will always been the "risk vs reward" debate. If the reward from killing the other player for their resources is worth the risk, some people will do it. And your situation is cute, because you assume the absolute worst possible outcome. The attacker could just as easily shot the target in the head, leaving all the gear in untouched and taken no damage. See, I just did exactly what you did but I took it to the other far extreme.

You have to remember that you are talking about two completely different settings. Today's world would look nothing like an apocalyptic and yet people are still committing violent crimes every day, now imagine what it would be like with resources stretch and a non existent police force or legal system. And you shouldn't be looking at homicides but violent crimes, because the numbers would be much higher if you removed the current day medical system we have (which won't exist in an apocalypse). We are just lucky that in Dayz treating knife and bullet would requires a rag and a couple cans of peaches.
