There are some threads that can teach you how to be (relativly) save while approaching others, you can read about that here or on reddit. It generally doesn't matter that you are a girl, but it gets abused in larger groups quite often so that made more experienced players careful. KOS is part of the game that is just how it is. If you can't deal with it the game is just not for you. There are certain general behaviors that will get you killed, but that also depends on the individuals you are dealing with. My personal reasons to potentionally kill people I'm interacting with: Your weapon is drawn You run around constantly when we talk You ask me strange question about the size of my group or similar You don't talk or write at all. Normally I will tell people how to use the chat ingame, if they don't react at all I will kill them. You are walking around in military structures There are many that are to afraid or have no interest in talking to others, for them it's a straight shootergame. You will always find players with this kind of mindset. Also some are just switching roles depending on their mood. It happens. Your gender has nothing to do with it, if someone wants to find a reason to kill you they will.

use a fully zoomed in lrs with fov reduced as much as possible and come back before judging

First off stuff that people claimed would help but really doing nothing at all: vitamins, morphin, splints, painkillers. If you sprint you are way to soon out of breath. I think I found part of the problem with weapon sway or maybe the main problem: I noticed that, if I zoom in as much as possible with the lrs I have incredible high fps looking at some far distant points. When the fps are extremly high the weapon sway is fucking insane (I had around 120 fps). I started recording lokking at the same point and the fps dropped as low as 40 and suddenly the sway was nearly gone. So maybe that is not the mainreason but it effects me incredible hard. This is happening in 10/10 tests I made. This also explains why some claim they have little problems while others have huge sway. but even if this is correct for long distances the sway is still to high. also: the sway is the same on all distances/magnification so the longer the distance is the bigger the problem obviously

Hey folks, just a little thought that just crossed my mind: With the new pathfinding and the incoming patch that includes more animals, how about you add cats and dogs in the city (non eatable/skinnable). The extra movement could spice up the fights and add to the tension that can overcome some while moving around. My friends got surprised by some rabbits the other day so I think this could really work. also: wolves/ animals that attack zombies and/or players I don't know if this was suggested before but if it where just delete my thread please.

Exactly that is what I'm trying to tell those here who obviously never touched a gun in their lives before or had any kind of professional training. And before someone says the characters in DayZ don't have training also, this is a post apocalyptic world setting, POST. How did you think they survived so far without having the training or learned in the past to do what's necessary. Also why does seem to be so hard to understand that we absolutly FOR realism and weapon shaking. just not in the extreme way it does now. @blacklabel morphin OR holding your breath did nothing.

Since you didn't either wtf are you complaining about others complaining than.

You didn't even read my comment. I wasn't even adressing you. If anything I was supporting your argument, that is why I quoted your post and not emigrates. That and because you stated that you are talking from personal experience. You might want to read my above comment carefully again. I didn't even once adressed the actual content of your quote. So what exactly are you talking about?
-
I spent some years in the military as well and I had to do routine target practice aboard a moving ship and there wasn't as much movement as right now with a lrs. So sorry to say that "emigrates" but ignorant or inexperienced are the right terms to describe your comments. I also keep reading that you can't mount a rail type bipod to a mosin which is wrong, it just requires a bit of handmade modification. I also keep reading 700-800 meters are too much of a distance for a mosin which is also wrong as can be seen here: (800 yards equals 731 meters) and here: New rifles are more accurate obviously but that doesn't mean that older rifles weren't. We are not talking about early revolvers from colt here after all. There are also other factors that played into the development of newer rifles like weight, amount of ammunition that can be carried (also relates to weight), size of the weapon aso. So if you want more realism it could be necessary to find a screwdiver and a costum modification set to add the bipod to a mosin but it should stay in the game.

Could someone from the official team give us a statement regarding weapon sway? If it stays that way I request that you rename the game "Micheal J Fox's Zombie Shakedown" and add his face to all charactermodels at once! Also add offcial buildings labeled ministry of silly walks and tophats for everyone. Also maybe circuses? With russian bears and giant clownhammers as meleeweapons? It reflects the patch perfectly. You could also add giant pits randomly all over the map so it makes sense when you fall to death. At Least I can pretend a spartan kicked me down.

What is going on with aiming? since the patch my scope is making jumps like crazy! Is this intended?!?!?! This is retarded ! No rifle is moving that much when you are prone !!!

So... my friend got kicked yesterday for a faulty gear_cookingpot.pbo or something but he never changed his gamefiles. can you replace missing or corrupted .pbo files by checking the game content in steam or what? Also I hope you see by the filename alone that it would be pretty pointless to be able to see through cooking pots  -
Animalskins: what would you do with skins so small? if you have a practical use I wouldn't mind. Eatable: given the fact that dogs and cats are mostly domesticated animals and living in urban areas the likleyhood that all animals that survived the apocalypse in those cities would have a very high probability of carrying diseases in form of bacteria or viruses or any kind of substance toxic for the human body. I would NOT suggest eating domestic animals if an shtf scenario would ever occur; source: I work in a company which makes a large bandwidth of biological and medical tests for humans and animals. In the dark ages it was common along poor folks to eat rats and small birds because of starvation and look what beautiful sickness this provided us with, killing nearly 1/3 of europes population at that time. I'm aware there where other factors as well regarding the black death beside the one mentioned.

Help with keeping my cool when meeting players?
TyrDaishi replied to JJ_'s topic in General Discussion
Right... because ignorance solves problems since like... forever. Just sayin' -
Maybe one way to even out the fight against automatic weapons would be to implement weapon jaming for automatic rifles. It would be realistic but could end up being frustrating for players. If Rifles like the blaze couldn't jam it would balance the weapons just fine. I'm thinking of m4 on auto: possible jam = you need to push reload to shoot again after 1-3 seconds, m4 on semi auto = no jam.

DayZ Dictionary Word of the Day: Friendly In the old days friendly was a term that gave you that warm fuzzy feeling in your belly. Remember the days with hot chocolate around camp fires with your friends? Or the friendly soccer games where middle aged woman would pray on young single dads while their daughters played a "friendly" game of soccer? Well guess what. Those days are over boi. The word friendly means now that a 12 year old russian kid will scream at you while his 45 year old dead sneaks up to you with a screwdiver and trys to stab you in the neck. The word friendly means now that even hollywoodstars like morgan freeman will get robbed of... well his freedom as well as other... bodily fluids. Check here for proof: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy5OkG7_WR07nbgkDLDXZYQ Friendly in this new world means that even the zombies learned to scream friendly with a french-russian accent to lure in newspawned bambi-pray. SO BEWARE. In Order to stay alive you will need to become a hunter, the beast who will rip apart others just for a can of beans. So if you meet players, meet them right between the eyes. Problem solved. If that fails at the first attempt try the so called "tactical breathing" (yes, it really is named that way and I would like to rip off the balls from whoever thought of this cringe worthy bs name). It goes as followed and can help you to get rid of the anxiety as well as get your mind of the danger for a few moments: Inhale through your nose, deeply, expanding your stomach for a count of four – one, two, three, four.Hold that breath in for a count of four – one, two, three, four.Slowly exhale through your mouth, completely, contracting your stomach for a count of four – one, two, three, four.Hold the empty breath for a count of four – one, two, three, four. Happy Hunting my friend, and may your weapon never jam at a critical moment. -
Dude... take a hint. I was making a joke in the sense that germans don't make mistakes, ever. There was no reason whatsever to explain what you meant. It was understandable the first time.

Hi I'm German. Just a quick question: What is this "mistake" you speak of?
-
The problem is not wether the game should display realistic guns or not, because it absolutly should. The problem is that right now the guns that are in the game can fill in for specific tasks . Without the bipod, compensator or LRS there is an important part in the game missing that many enjoy right now. If you really want the changes of the guns for realism, you need to include the weapon that was made for the task (e.x. sniping) first. I don't want 50 .cal rifles or even halfautomatic DMRs. But I want my bolt action sniper rifle tbh. the game wouldn't be the same without it for me.

YorkMorgan is right in my opinion. Telling us there is a new engine isn't really news unless you guys tell us what advantages and features we can expect and around what time it will be truly relevant? (6 months? 12 months?) Can someone please explain what kind of features the engine will have? How will this affect the physics in the game? Does this mean no more broken legs falling from 30 cms? How will the bullets be affected in terms of muzzle velocity, gravity, and aerodynamic drag? Will wind play a role in the long term? Will the performance drop issues in cities be solved? What about objects like grass in the far distance? Can we ever hope to see grass when we are 1000 meters away or is this simply not possible with the current engine and average computerspecs? I would like to play this game with higher graphic settings but even given the fact that my PC specs are not bad I have to play on low settings for specific situations.

I started the game 3 weeks ago, I have 160 hours now and I'm geared out completely for about 1 week now on regular. (Played hardcore only 2nd week). I fooled the reaper for... I dunno maybe about 15 times now?; getting shot at, evaded zombies, fixed broken legs falling from stairs and being mostly around the most dangerous places berenzino, NEAF and svetlo. Personally I will never stop looking for trouble geared up or not. I fucking love this game to the max. My only disappointment so far is the bugs around sniping. Not seeing where the shot hits, no mildots in the scope, inconsistency in player model placements, desync. What is the point in maxing out my gear if I don't get anything out of it? Don't get me wrong I would absolutely hate if they implement stuff like infrared scopes or DMRs that are to precise on long ranges. The gear should be important to survive but shouldn't give too much of an unfair advantage and destroy the survivalist (and stealth is necessary for that) feeling! But that you care for the stuff that you could lose should be one of the most important aspects of the game! After all it helps you staying alive. And not in a night fever sense.

Well I was thinking that I asked a valid question in this thread and I never recieved any kind of response at all. So I can understand the frustration of some people here to some degree. After all they are complaining because they really like the game, because they care about it. And that in itself can be rewarding for the one who makes it, no matter how poor the choice of words might be or initial intention ;)

So I did a lot of long range shooting (starting at 500-600 meters) the last week and I must say I'm still confused about it. Just some information on what I did: -Mosin with lrg, compensator, bipod all pristine -range estimation with maps and without (using mildots method or pure estimation of the range) -shooting at objects, zeds and players (moving or still; standing, crouching or prone) -all ammunition used was pristine -I have no chain of doom most of the time I play All in all I'm confused why 1. It seems completly random if I can see where the shot hits (smoke puffs, blood on players, zeds) 2. It seems kind of random (even considering desync, lags, high ping) if I hit shots I made from the same position (same heightdifference, same distance to the target, target has the same height) 50 times or more 3. Even the Time the Bullet travels seems to be inconsistant (yes even on buildings; non moving targets) ranging from ~0.5 seconds to ~1 seconds at 500-600 meters. What's up with that? I don't think this is all related to lags, desync? Are their mechanics in the game that give every bullet a unique behavior? Is it possible to change server values that influence this behavior? Any tips?

I wanted to do testvideos last night but when I got into the game my fully geared character was wiped. I need to go and get my stuff back, but that will take some time.
