Pending Update: Build 1.7.2
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The only reason the game can cope with the number of zombies present on the map currently is because the AI for them runs on each client and thus spreads the load, I'd guess it would be a really significant change to do otherwise.. A really simple change would be to make the zombie spawn radius around each player the same as the current draw distance (which of course changes with the weather etc). This way the 'zombie radar' as I like to call it wouldn't be any use to detect players. There would be a great deal more zombies on the map as a result though and increase server load. -
The quantity of barbed wire around loot spots is due to a duplication bug thats fixed already in the next patch I think.

i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
TrackIR if your lucky enough to have it or something similar removes the need for 3dp even in vehicles. I'd imagine alt looking would work too, never tried that. -

Only someone who had hacked it in would be so reckless, surely if you had found and fixed a chopper up you would care about its fate and value it. -

I really dislike 3rd person, for me it ruins the immersion, I want to be able to see fuck all if I am crawling through the grass etc, it seems 3rd person is being switched on more servers all the time, ruins the experience for me, not to mention the peeking over walls cheat bullshit. And yes I'd agree that many of the people that demand it being switched on can't hack the game in 1st person. -
Share servers with SIDECHAT enabled
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to robindencoola2@hotmail.se's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really miss sidechat, its not realistic of course, but its fun, a day or two ago on a 3DP=0,CH=0 server my group while staking out a known bandit group observed 2 noobs chatting over sidechat and struggling with Zs etc, it was great fun to watch them through binoculars and listen to their chat, we would have even gone over and helped them a little had we not compromised our position badly. The point is without sidechat people have one way of interacting with each other, and that is to shoot, the range on direct chat is too small to really be that useful most of the time. Just so we are clear I don't want us all to hold hands and play pve; that's really boring, but right now it seems that there is very little cooperation outside of groups using external voice comms that already know each other. Yes there will be brainless comments like "Who is shooting in cherno" and so on and yes there will be hackers lapping up the tears but there might also be people using it to get within the vital 50m or whatever the range of direct is and cooperating. I guess the idea is to put radios in and then we have long range comms, however unless those are really common and I don't think it would feel right if they where. They aren't really gonna solve the problem, when your low on supplies right at the start and want to group up with some people most wont have the radio so your back to the 50m comms range. TL;DR No sidechat increases the shoot first don't ask questions tendency and makes coop with people you dont already have comms with difficult to coordinate. -
Empty cans, no loot, no weapons, dead body flies everywher
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to fart11eleven's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Weapons and food are harder to find on the coast now because everyone needs one, they will take anything/everything they find. The increase in flies is due to people not being able to handle zombie agro without having a weapon and corpses despawning, player corpses seem to despawn quicker with recent patches IMO. EDIT: Solution, get off the coast and gear up in the barns and deerstands etc. -
New NVG Spawn location?
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to clintmbaptiste@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't be at all surprised if a significant proportion of NVGs in game currently are duped or hacked in. -
rsync might be a better choice, as you dont really need revision history and all that stuff.

Anyone else using TrackIR?
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to djkling's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The software amplifies the movement a great deal, so say you turn you head 10 degrees to the left this results in say 60 degreee view change in the game, you decide how much amplification. It works surprisingly well once you get used to it. -
From an Eve-Online Player...
vincent.cheesbrough@gmail.com replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I totally disagree with that, doing that would almost certainly mean a dumb down and that would be a disaster for this game. I recall one shootout I had, I could barely aim with the mouse my hands where shaking so much. What game, except perhaps eve gives that level of emotion. (Also an EVE player btw, only played it for the few months leading up to monoclegate) -

Personally I disable the Z axis that usually zooms in when you lean forward. One thing I especially like is being able to pop up the iron sight or optics aiming at a doorway or whatever yet still maintain SA by looking around slightly. Really increases immersion in ARMA2 and is great fun. IMO for Flight sim titles its pretty much essential IMO.
