In my opinion there isn't one thing that this game does well besides the concept. It's an alpha... that is correct however an 'alpha' (especially one being sold) should have a good base to start with. Let's take a look at why this game would have sold NOTHING without the concept. 1) Networking: - This game has some of the worst netcode I've ever experienced. The entire game is based around multiplayer yet it's almost unplayable in that aspect. - I don't think I've ever been in a gun fight where there wasn't some sort of desync/teleport lag. - It's very common to see other players walk through walls. - Inventory desync and ground item desync is awful. - Server performance is abysmal, resulting in hourly server restarts for performance issues. 2) Client Performance: - Okay sure it's true client side performance optimizations usually occur in beta however this is mostly never the case for bohemia games. - Giant performance loss when looking into cities (probably the most common). This issue has existed since the first Arma and still exists even in Arma 3. (Engine limitation?) - Overall terrible hardware utilization and outdated rendering (DirectX9) 3) Controls: - This is basically self explanatory to most players. Mouse controls for this game are horrible mostly from using an outdated engine base. - Object collision is a joke. I don't even need to mention zombie AI or lack-there of in a game based around a zombie apocalypse. So my only question is why would anyone develop a game on such a terrible architecture if they weren't doing it for a cash grab. This kinda reminds me of a game many people had hope for at one time; WarZ. Now the name has become a joke.

Yeah because Alpha means nobody has the right to criticize it or give opinions about development progress...

Funny how old this thread is yet it is all practically still valid. Inb4 locked.

I keep reading everywhere on the forums and subreddit that this game needs "optimized" and this will not happen until beta stages. While it's true that many features in this game needs optimization, those are not the core issues in this engine. There are clearly systems in this engine that need completely replaced to provide a stable foundation to build the game on mostly related to performance (server and client) and this isn't the first game developed by Bohemia that has these same problems. I just can't seem to understand how people think that these core issues can simply be "optimized" in Beta stages. You can't perfect something that needs to be completely rewritten/replaced and has so many other dependencies that will only grow as you add more to the engine. An example would be implementing a new renderer, you can't simply wait until Beta to replace something so huge in the engine. There are obviously major issue with rendering cities that needs to be resolved but many people keep saying that there won't be an 'instant' fix for performance in cities. Why not? There is clearly something broken in the engine that needs to be replaced to fix this issue, such as implementing a new renderer with better occlusion culling. Now I'm not saying that this is the specific issue with cities, because Arma 3 has a DX11 renderer and I still get terrible performance in cities. If these core issues are not resolved in Alpha, the likelihood of them ever being resolved is very small. TLDR: I feel like there is too much misinformation being spread around, you don't wait until Beta to fix core engine issues such as these because so many other systems rely on them. Why can't we get any official answers regarding this from the developers.

It's not a misconception. They both started from the same base engine. In fact DayZ standalone has taken many features from Arma 3 itself. DayZ still has remnants of 'Arma 3' in it's source code. So please learn something instead of deleting messages and jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else.

DayZ 0.5 first impression after long break
instynct replied to Zing Freelancer's topic in General Discussion
There is not 'plenty' to do and there are no 'cool' new features, same old kill on sight deathmatch. This game is hardly a survival game at all. -
Let's talk about client optimization
instynct replied to zak.preston@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
The major performance issues will most likely never be solved judging by Bohemia's track record. For example: Arma3 has a new renderer. Arma 3 has the same performance issues and everyone said it would be resolved in Beta yet to this day it's still not resolved. Hell most of the new features in the standalone were ripped directly from Arma 3. Proof is in the source code SQF files that still contain copy pasted code with references to Arma 3. -
So basically they are working as slow as they possibly can because still nothing is finished.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

Thank god I'm not the only person who's been thinking this same thing. However you can't put all the blame on rocket, it's Bohemia Interactive in general that is the problem. -
POLL: What if DayZ was made by a different company?
instynct replied to The Aquatic Land Walrus's topic in General Discussion
Well obviously if dayz was made by a different company they wouldn't be using an outdated engine and trying to polish it. -
What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?
instynct replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah man that's funny because I have 2x GTX 780 Ti and a i7 4770k and get shitty fps in cities too. Same issue in Arma 3 multiplayer. -

instynct replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Play multiplayer on an expensive pc and see how you get shitty fps no matter what you do or what server you play on or what settings you play on. -

instynct replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It doesn't run like dog shit just because it's in alpha. It runs like this because it's using an outdated engine just like every game by bohemia. and they don't care as long as they keep making money. -
Please fix the Performance. Massive FPS-drop in cities.
instynct replied to thechris80's topic in Troubleshooting
You mean like h1z1 that can run at 100+ fps and planetside 2. Anyways.. it will probably never be fixed because it's an outdated engine flaw which has existed in every arma game. -
I think priorities should be on fixing desync issues, server performance, and client performance considering all of them are absolutely awful at the moment.
-
I'm praying the new rendering api is implemented soon... that's what i've been waiting for since the project was started.
-
Why would you push an update to stable with melee not working.... I don't understand the logic.
-
It's very hard for an unprofessional development team. Honestly whoever is the lead on this project doesn't seem very smart at all or at least very inexperienced. Honestly I think the game was dead on arrival just because of the company who purchased it.
-
Yes but the animations are still shit and completely unpolished.
-
So now everyone keeps playing dayz mod instead of standalone like usual. Last patch was mostly anti cheat.... so it's been over a month since a major patch.
-
There needs to be some major changes this update like at least zombie pathfinding.... but knowing them it will probably just be a new weapon and some new clothes...
-
Wow they must be desperate if they put early access on sale again.
-
It's highly unlikely 'infusion' will change anything,.... it's just a modified version of the current engine which is complete garbage. And do you not see how slow the progress is?
-
Could they develop a game any slower? I don't think so.... warz had faster updates than this.

EXP Rubberbanding fixed - Pushing to EXP to confirm, then Stable
instynct replied to inphared's topic in General Discussion
It's not like there's anything to do on the game except KOS anyways so what's the point.
