I would like to begin by saying that I understand the need for difficulty. A challenge is always fun. But DayZ is almost impossible now. Now I understand why the player no longer starts with a pistol and I'm fine with it. I also see why the zombies were made a bit more aware. I also get the argument of 'realism' but I find it's non-applicable (once zombies can no longer behave like ghosts with x-ray vision it can be looked into). But these factors, combined with the occasional glitch (zombies seeing you through walls, zombies killing you through walls, zombies running through walls, zombies seeing you from 10m away even though your HuD says no sound or visibility), how zombies spawn indoors and how weapons are pretty rare, have come together to make DayZ nearly impossible (or so hard that only luck can keep you alive long enough to get a weapon). Let me illustrate my point. You spawn in unarmed, so your first priority is to find a weapon. Now weapons are only found indoors in towns which are where zombies spawn. Since you are unarmed your only hope is to sneak into a building, hope it has a weapon inside and sneak out. This is possible, but it requires more luck than skill to pull off. Why do I say this? Well suppose there are zeds in said building, or there are no weapons in it, or maybe even a zed sees your through a wall. No amount of skill can save you there. Oh and running away doesn't work most of the time. Now my suggestion to fix this and make DayZ possible again is to either give the player a weapon on spawn or to tone the zombies' alertness a bit down (Zombies with X-Ray vision and the ability to 'phase' through walls is getting a bit annoying.).
