Two of those bad boys really would have come in handy during the last flash mob I went to. I only had one drum mag but ended up being the sole survivor of the overwatch squad, killed around 12 players (6 armed hostiles, 5 bambis who went into psycho killer mode after we got raided, and 1 friendly fire [he aimed his rifle at me even after i'd stated my position so i had no choice, made up for it later by giving him my makarov]). Went through 200 rounds and had to take out my drum mag to reload repeatedly. The armed players only took about 30 rounds total to kill, most of my ammo was expended on the fast-moving bambis in close quarters, where I didn't have the opportunity to aim careful shots and was just trying to save my friends and myself from getting knocked out and/or axed. One bambi at the end surprised me trying to knock me out and I wasted like 40 rounds putting him down. I'm amazed that I survived but I am definitely finding a second drum mag to bring to the next event or PVP situation I get involved in.

Can someone explain the character reset situation?

This is NOT the thing about disconnecting after you die in the changelog. That's something different. I lost my geared character and then my new character from server resets last night, and I didn't die. And yes I made sure I was on public hive. -
Rocket said that this is not going to be addressed for a while because sound is relatively easy to do and they want to leave sound stuff until the end and focus on harder stuff first (fair enuf). I hope they deviate a bit to fix this though, if they are going to bother with stuff like the mouse acceleration. Hearing those sounds kills my immersionz.

I wasn't comparing the two so go look for straw men elsewhere. My point was that domestication of animals preceded modern civilization, so their use would presumably continue if civilization were to collapse.

More struggle than maintaining a car with an automatic transmission tho? We did domesticate their wild ancestors at a time when most humans were barely surviving through hunting, gathering and subsistence agriculture.

In my case it's usually a combination of: impatience, frustration with the perceived cowardice of my teammates, urge to avenge fallen comrades, and faith that the desync gods will let me shoot my opponent before he can even see me standing in front of him.

Battleye will probably ban him within a week or two, but until then, he gets to ruin the game experience of dozens if not hundreds of other players. Even if admins see him speedhacking and noclipping, they aren't allowed to ban him. This is why I and several other ex-server owners I know from the mod have no interest in renting/hosting a server yet. What's the point if we can't even ban hackers? -
Getting punshed, knockout immediately & melee weapons all the same dmg?

The hard hat is the knockout-proof headgear in my experience. I walked up and down the coast with one of those and I was the undisputed boxing champ. No one could knock me out (until I got shot). -
Wait, the RIS handguard? You can put that on the AKM?!

I think the worst subculture in the game is the Bryan Silvas (Bryans Silva?). A few weeks ago every bambi I ran into would say "That fufu lame shit I aint wid it, I send some shots at yo fitted, GRATATA." There aren't many of them left now but I keep my finger on the trigger just in case..

When I log out in the woods I usually stay in my position for over a minute to make sure no zombie is following me. It can get tedious after a while.. I wish it were optional to wait out your 30-second logout period ingame for this reason. (like if you could wait the 30 seconds in game for an instant logout but if you alt+f4 or logout immediately your character would still be there for 30 seconds)

Yes, I know. Why do you think I said private hives wouldn't be a complete solution on their own? They would however solve the main form of ghosting, server-to-server ghosting, and a lot of other issues with player bases.

Pretty much this. Wouldn't completely solve the ghosting issue though, you can still have time-travelers who sneak into the base when everyone is offline, logout, then log back in at peak time and shoot everyone in the back.

The mod had more variety in ammo types and I thought that it encouraged bartering and made people more conservative with their ammo, both of which were good things for a survival game.

No need to get defensive .. I was implicitly praising BI by mentioning EA. If you read the thread, a few people were saying they'd pay for new maps. That's what I was responding to. -

Paying to play new maps would be EA-worthy BS. The least lame thing they could do DLC-wise would be custom player appearances like the hats in TF2. Beards, moustaches, hairstyles, hair colors etc.. but even that would be lame to charge money for. -

I don't see how too many ammo types is a huge problem. It's alpha, we can put up with it; it could be countered by adding a chance for guns to spawn with a loaded magazine and/or some ammo for them nearby. And actually I think it would kind of be a good thing, to have more ammo types, the great variety of ammo helped promote trade and risky looting in the mod. If it's harder to get the ammo you need that would make it harder to get fully geared for PVP. Not that I'm against PVP, but the game is more interesting when you have to make decisions like "is this worth some of my few remaining bullets for this gun?" instead of it almost always being a good decision to just shoot anything that moves. -

It's spelled "melee," but at least you obviously pronounce it correctly, unlike a lot of people. I think the Xbox controller defaults might not include a button to raise weapon. You have to go to main menu -> Configure -> Controls -> Assignments, and under Infantry Weapons there's a command called "Toggle Raise Weapon." -
The mod numbers are obviously off .. see here: http://arma2.swec.se/server/list Steam charts says 59 people are playing DayZ Mod, but at the same time the Arma 2 server list shows it's over 1,000 just if you count the DayZ players on the front page. And the statistics here show that DayZ Mod is still getting around 10,000 concurrent users per day at peak time, and dropping to 4,000 at the lowest : http://arma2.swec.se/game/statistics (see chart at the bottom) It probably isn't showing up correctly in Steam charts because that only counts people using the "DayZ Mod" vanilla game in their Steam library, but not the people playing submods like Epoch through Arma 2+DayZCommander.

Why would you assume that he hops around low pop servers? I like to play on full servers and I see the hoppers appearing left and right at NEAF, like winged ant queens popping out of the ground on the first rains of Spring. I could just as well assume that you never played the game or the mod, you just watch twitch streams, so you've never experienced the BS of securing a building/area only to have someone magically spawn in behind you and shoot you in the back. -

How did it help combat loggers? Common sense says it hurt combat loggers, and helped ordinary players cover their asses when a logger/hopper spawned into a popular building behind them. -

It's awesome that they are finally fixing the zombie noclip, but they should not have tweaked zombies at all before doing this - (Just like they shouldn't have nerfed the kung fu run speed before adding vehicles, and they shouldn't have added a server hop penalty timer before adding loot respawn, or at least fixing the broken button for Play [rejoin last server] ... etc.) - and i hope they don't touch zombies any more at all until their noclip issue is fixed. Everything else involving zombies is trivial compared to that single noclip issue. -
There are many servers and people, but it's extremely annoying to play due to rubber-banding. Only play experimental if you are fine with being stuck in a building for 20 minutes, and then finally thinking that you got out, only to teleport 50 meters in the air and fall to your death.

If you don't like the Berezino PVP, don't go there. It isn't like just any other PVP shooter at all because it takes 5-10 minutes to get back to your body .. that's already like a respawn timer right there. If anything, you just shouldn't be able to respawn near your own body. A long respawn timer would be a crap feature, only fit for a crap game like WarZ. Bodies should stay as long as they do because they're great people-bait and seeing them disappear kills immersion. A body is already unrecoverable if you die out West... no way you can run back there in time. Simple solution is just to just make more unique stuff in the West (AK parts and heli crashes already accomplish this).
