    Remove In-game Player List

You're assuming that most players want to be in low pop servers, and leave when it gets full. What about those of us who want to stay on a populated server, and leave when it gets empty? Anyone who wants to stay in an empty/lowpop server could still just open Gametracker in steam browser or another monitor and check the server population that way.

    That stupid bird...

Haha, I remember in the mod/Arma when players would spawn as birds, I met a guy who had 3 birds following him.. there was a sniper shooting at us and he told the birds to find him so they flew up to the hill and started circling around where he was.

    Setting things on fire

There were some Arma 2 mods where you could set people on fire, and even some stuff with forest fires and firefighting (but I heard it was expensive on performance). The graphics weren't amazing but there's no hard reason why they couldn't add more fire stuff in SA if it was worth the time developing. People on fire - Forest fires/firefighting -

A Simple Appeal to Server Hosts and Providers

Right. I'm hoping it gets fixed eventually, because one minute is plenty of time to type "shutdown" and some admins have figured out they can cheat death like this. xD

A Simple Appeal to Server Hosts and Providers

Ah, maybe they fixed it then. My last few restarts though I seem to remember losing a few minutes of progress when the server went down. I'll have to keep an eye out when I play this weekend. In any case it's not a major issue at all, just a minor nuisance, although server owners sometimes abuse it by restarting when they die.

    Thoughts on the AKM?

My favorite thing about the AKM is that the muzzle brake is cut diagonally like it should be, unlike the "AKM" in Arma that was really a flat muzzled AK47.

    Thoughts on the AKM?

Anyone know what the folding stock does apart from looking cool? Does it trade dispersion for handling like the M4 CQB stock?

A Simple Appeal to Server Hosts and Providers

Anyone know if there are plans to change how restarting works so like, instead of just killing the server, a manual or scheduled restart is an event where the server saves all player data and sends it to the hive before shutting down?
  9. If you are ripped enough you should be able to pop open your buttoned shirt just by flexing your pecs. The buttons could go flying as physics objects .It would be a great way to intimidate someone before a fist fight. :)
  10. Dispersion is fine as is, these are supposed to be real guns not some Airsoft toy that you can spray full-auto with perfect accuracy while standing up after running at a full sprint for 20 minutes.

    Tandem bikes.

    NEVER FORGET
  12. Only if we can spawn in crouching or prone, then the sound should be restored. As is, having to spawn in standing up makes you an easy target and causes every zombie within 500m to run towards you, which is more than enough of a giveaway.
  13. DayZ can not affect you physically by making you hungry or thirsty or full, or shooting you, or whacking you in the head with a baseball bat. But playing the game does affect your mental state, it can terrify or excite you, it can make you feel gratitude or remorse. And that's its main strength - the adrenaline rush in combat, the mix of emotions you don't get in other shooters or RPG's. Having to read someone by their actions and the sound of their voice, not knowing whether to trust them, without the help of a big red marker that says "THIS GUY IS EVIL!" If I'm looting at night and a zombie or player scares the shit out of me, I don't need the game to tell me that I'm scared. If I'm getting shot at and I am about to lose several hours or days of looting by getting shot in the head, I don't need the game to tell me that my heart is racing. And what if it tells me that I'm feeling the opposite of how I actually feel about what just happened in-game? A sanity system would be worse than just an unnecessary gimmick, it would actually kill a bunch of unique aspects of gameplay and player interaction.

broken tank or apc at an army base

Tanks and fighter jets wouldn't get destroyed in a zombie apocalypse, but they would fall into disrepair. Lots of people want to drive a tank in the game but how many of us are tank mechanics who could fix up a tank that had broken down or even been stripped for parts, and get it moving again? Likewise the army wouldn't get defeated, but with no government to pay, feed or supply them, and soldiers randomly turning into zombies and eating people in their beds, discipline would collapse. Individuals, groups, even whole units would desert for a better chance of survival. The destroyed military hardware lying around the map could easily be explained by the pre-apocalypse insurgency and peacekeeping operation in Chernarus, a conflict that broke out or got aggravated by the fact of zombies being everywhere, and/or the breakdown of society as desperate survivors rob and kill each other. In any case, tanks and heavy weapons would be terrible for gameplay (and they were terrible on some servers in the mod). The backstory excuse is less important than how unfair and stupid it would be for people to be driving tanks up and down the coastal road, blowing up fresh spawns with HE rounds.

    Chess board

Wow, I hate those people. Fuck them and their happy life that's better than mine.
  16. If scripts should simulate the player's mental state when playing the game, why have players at all? Why not replace them with bots? It would be much easier to control "player" behavior then.

    log our protection

There doesn't have to be a choice between A.) an in-game wait before you quit, or B.) a 30 second wait and logout animation after you quit. We can have both. Waiting the 30 seconds in-game (without moving, shooting or doing actions) could let you skip the animation and log out safely and immediately at the end of the 30 seconds. But if you leave the server by alt+f4 and get kicked by client not responding, at any time, even if that happens 29 seconds into your in-game wait, then your character would stay in for another full 30 seconds and do the logout animation as happens currently. And if you don't want to wait the 30 seconds to quit you could just click "log out NOW" and again your character will stay in game for another full 30 seconds and do the animation.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Wasn't making stuff up - that's just what I heard from people in the Arma 2 modding scene. If it's not true then I'm sorry for propagating a rumor. I don't get why you put me in the BE hate train though, I was trying to defend BE in that post by saying that infistar's "antihack" is garbage and that they should give you more money.

    Admins kick to kill you

No, I don't think you know what you're talking about, because this is common sense. Bohemia wrote the features (kicking and logout animation) and they can change how they work.

    Bird/Animal Cages

You should be able to put players in cages too. Although they should also be able to suicide by logging out (a la handcuffs) so the game doesn't become the Ariel Castro/Josef Fritzl Simulator.

    Some RP items and 'minigames'

There's a new game on Steam called "Tabletop Simulator" that has the perfect approach, DayZ-wise, IMHO. Basically there should be no rules, no winning/losing, that's all up to players to determine. You can just move pieces around on a board, or hold cards in your hand/put them on the table. It's up to you and the other players to decide how to regulate turns, if people are following the rules, who is the winner/loser, if someone cheated by moving the pieces or pulling a card out of their sleeve when you weren't looking, to grab the prizes in the middle when you think you won, or even to flip the board/table over and pull out a gun if you think you were wronged. Everything, down to whether the game is fair or not, should be completely player-driven. A freeform model would also allow players to make up their own versions/rules for any minigame for which the set/pieces get added as content. For example, chess variants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_variant
  22. Does anyone know if they are planning to make it so scheduled/intended resets (either a #Shutdown or #Restart command) make the server pause and send all player info to the hive before it actually shuts down? That would solve the problem I think. It would also stop naughty admins from being able to come back to life their stuff by killing the server when they die.

    Trouble with racist names

Kicking is not a solution, because one or two kicks might work on a mature/sane person, but the people you actually want to ban are generally not sane and mature at all ... they're attention-seeking sociopaths who will just keep coming back because they love the drama and love being the "bad guy" in the situation. It's a lot of work and it gets stressful after a while, which can lead decent admins who have lives and limited time on their hands to just give up on running a server at all. I play games to have fun and when I pay to host servers it's to create a space to have fun ... so if they're hacking or dropping N-bombs I just want to ban them and be done with it. I don't want to waste any of my free time being a surrogate parent to problem children. I remember when I first hosted an Arma 2 server and didn't know how to ban someone, I kicked the same hacker probably 100 times and he kept coming back and spawning fields full of helicopters, finally I had to lock the server and when I took off the password he was back again. Sometimes even if you banned people they kept coming back with names like "U MAD ADMIN?" so everyone could see it when they got kicked on join.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Of course infistar could make an anti-hack, because he was writing the hacks too, he knew exactly what to look for. He's only good for making a quick buck by ruining the game and ripping off server owners. Historically BE just had one guy working for BI part-time, that's why it was always sub-par. It can be a perfectly good anti-cheat system with a few good full-time employees dedicated to monitoring and banning script kiddies, so they have to buy new copies and they become a source of profit for the game, instead of the game being a source of profit for assholes like infistar.

    Admins kick to kill you

A kick is not just text in a log, it is an active command with an effect in game (actually kicking the player, forcing them into logout animation). The dev team aren't modders any more, they have full access to the engine, so there is no reason they can't change how kicking works. In addition to kicking the player, a manual kick command could tell the client/server/hive to make an exception for that manually-kicked player to skip their logout animation. The only problem would be that server admins would abuse it by kicking themselves to instantly combat log. Reporting is a time-consuming process and GSP's tend to ignore it because anyone could make up a bunch of false reports from different email addresses to shut down the server of a clan they hate. Even video/screenshot evidence would be easy to fake.
