I've seen this already: you save someone else's ass and he attacks you afterwards. I was inside the hospital in Berezino and saw this guy being chased by a female zombie. I shouted to him and had him follow me upstairs (zombies have problems to climb stairs). Then he started punching me. So that's how I got new boots, helmet and a knapsack full of items, and how he learnt (for his next life) not to go bare fists against someone armed with an axe.

Some secret military bases could store them. But it agree that it would be much simpler to allow the player to kill himself with a knife or gun.

Same problem. Server glitched when I was on a ladder and I broke my leg. Luckily I was on the top of the NWAF and was able to fall to my demise. I agree, game should allow players to use an axe or machete on trees to craft sticks. And suicide should be implemented too, via cyanide pills.

Thanks for all your advice. I've looked a bit around and seen that definitely gaming laptops aren't worth buying. What would be the best configuration you suggest, for instance for an AlienWare desktop machine? Money is not a problem. On the other hand I simply don't want to spend for useless gizmos. For instance, is a double graphic card worth buying?

Col. Robert Neville here, U.S. Army (not my real identity!) I tend to play solo. I help other survivors whenever I can but try any dirty trick and I'll put a bullet in your head.

Another first - did I just witness a zed kill itself?
Robert Neville replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I witnessed this today. A zombie soldier was running towards me down a very gentle slope -- it was pratically in plain. I lift my axe and prepared to strike when he dropped dead a few meters from me. Funny. -

What do you mean by "double-tap"? -
Sometimes I join a server and I am able to eat/drink only once. The second time I attempt this (on a can of beans, can of spaghetti, soda, canteen, bottle...) the popup menu has only "Inspect", not "Eat" or "Drink". I am forced to log off and join another server. Connection issues probably?

wall glitchers caught on twitch last night

I hope developers get this fixed soon. Players exploiting game glitches are very annoying. -

I tried to use this trick today. The zombie didn't slow down and since I was uphill he managed to hurt me in the leg. Luckily I found some morphine in a nearby hospital. -
Sometimes cannot eat/drink
Robert Neville replied to Robert Neville's topic in New Player Discussion
That's exactly the problem I have except that for me it does not resolve itself - after a while I am forced to join another server if I want to eat/drink. -
Well done. How did you manage to find the bad guy again? Chernarus is huge.

Hey Toasted Duckie, you were even too nice. By the way, you took a big risk to approach two well geared players in such a way. Be sure to always have an helmet to protect the head, so that nobody can knock you out when you're giving them an IV or anything else. With an helmet it's hard to knock someone unconscious in a single blow. And if they fail the first blow... well... they won't have the time to strike the second.

Unfortunately I haven't much space. I can find room for a desktop machine, but not for a standalone screen and keyboard.

This is a 2-year old laptop on which DayZ can be run and played decently, with most graphic settings set to low and screen resolution reduced at 50%. Laptop Monitor resolution: 1600x900 CPU: Intel i7-2670QM @ 2.2 GHz Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M RAM: 8 Gb No SSD Windows 7 I am going to buy a good gaming laptop (had a look on Alienware products), any suggestion is welcome.

I don't kill friendly people. But I defend myself when someone wants to give me trouble. My first kill was a man who attacked me when I was exploring a building. We got into a fistfight and I knocked him off for good. When he woke up he attacked me again and I knocked him off again. Then I finished him with his firefighter axe. Apart from his axe I got from him some nice gear such as a black biker jacket, sunglasses, and food. Miserable schmuck!

Sometimes cannot eat/drink

Huh. I wasn't aware that there was already a forum profile with the name and picture of The Omega Man. But given that it's a game about surviving zombies, it seems logical. ;) I've now changed my profile pic to avoid confusion. -
Just a question, Mobsix. How do you attain the status "Healthy" (shown in your character status)?

Sometimes cannot eat/drink
Robert Neville replied to Robert Neville's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that the popup menu hasn't all the available actions. But yes, sometimes I'm empty-handed, sometimes I have a weapon in my hand. This does not seem to affect the glitch. -

No, I can take items and open/close doors. -
Same problem here. When I connect to a server that has a delayed spawn as such, at the end of the countdown almost always I cannot join the game as it shows "Please wait..." indefinitely. Why is it so?

Carry medical supplies (bandages, rags, purifying tablets and all the stuff). Have a spare can opener so you can give it to other survivors. You're doing a great job.

Journal recording 5. May 21, 2014. At the beginning I really thought they got me this time. Woke up in a beach which, according to my calculations, is on the eastern coast. Attacked almost immediately by zombies, managed to escape but badly hurt. I bandaged myself with medical supplies found in buildings nearby. In the same buildings I was also able to get some good gear. I was walking on the road by the shoreline, going toward south, when I was attacked again by several zombies. Was hurt again but managed to run away. I heard two men calling me; they were on the beach, in full camouflage gear, and had a rifle each. I took the risk to approach them as they seemed friendly. One of them had just started bandaging me, when all of a sudden the zombies I thought I left behind attacked us. The two men started running around shooting but couldn't stop the zombies. One of the zombies attacked me again and I lost consciousness. This is the last thing I remember before dying.

Journal recording 4. May 16, 2014. Entered Svetlojarsk. Found quite a good amount of canned food, drink, medical supplies, and some useful gear -- a hard hat and winter pants with a lot of room for items. Was also able to find a double-barrel rifle and a old soviet SKS, unfortunately unloaded. Finally met a couple of friendly survivors; one asked me for some ammo (which I had none) and eventually gave me a can of spaghetti. While searching an upstairs kitchen in an abandoned house I was attacked by a survivor. He started punching me as soon as he entered. I defended myself and knocked him out with a good couple of blows. While I was deciding what to do with him he recovered consciousness and attacked me again. I knocked him out for good and I finished him off with the axe he was carrying; otherwise he would have killed me. The stupid schmuck should have attacked me with it instead. Frisked him and took most of his belongings: a nice biker jacket, his sunglasses, a gun holster (with no gun), and some canned food. He was carrying an unloaded SKS too, with a rusty bayonet attached. I am hydrated and energized by now. Proceeding southwest: my aim is to pass through Olsha to the airstrip nearby and hopefully find some weapon and ammo. No annoyances en route save a few encounter with zombies; for that I had to take shelter in a gas station for a while. Managed finally to arrive to the small village of Olsha. Found a canteen with still a bit of water in a tabernacle. Exited the village and took the road through the woods. After a while I arrived on the border of a lake. I must have taken the wrong road since there's no lake between Olsha and the airstrip. This could be the Black Lake, according to the map. Saw a rabbit there, trying killing it with my axe but it managed to escape me. Started retracing my steps: night is falling and I want to take shelter to Olsha. [server disconnected, joined another server] It is daytime now. Reached Osha and found the correct road to exit the village. After a while on the road I saw a cross planted on the border, near to the wreck of a car. I couldn't help myself but scoff at it -- the poor bastard had a chance to die before the zombies apocalypse began. Reached finally the air base. I have to be very careful as it might harbor bandits. A man armed with a rifle was guarding the base. He seemed friendly but hurried me to leave saying it was a dangerous place. I left, not before searching all the buildings. I wasn't able to find much gear there, but at least I was able to exchange my boots. Exited the air base. Decided that my next destination would be Krasnostav, the biggest city around. I was walking at a fast pace towards it - equipped, fed and hydrated, with no zombies in sight - approaching the city via a road that runs through an open field. I realized this was a mistake when a bullet killed me. The sniper must have been hiding on one of the tall buildings on the city borders.
