Berezino is normally the place I head to gather supplies if i wanna hit up the NEAF after spawning on the east coast. Searching all the buildings around the tank in southern Berezino is a good idea, a variety of loot there, frequently double barrelled shotguns with ammo aswell, there is also a well, i go to the hospital which is a bit further north to pick up some meds, and then proceed to head further north towards the church and loot the police station, this should get you kitted out well enough to be able to head NW towards the NEAF.
