Hello Everyone! I have created a thread in the new player section, but thought it might also be helpful here as well. I have been enjoying the new updates to DayZ and wanted to share my experiences on how to survive with the new starting equipment. If you are a new player, my recent blog article may help you survive long enough to find a weapon and evade those hungry zombies! Enjoy and Stay Alive! Nightime, Moonlight and Visual Adjustment to Darkness
MissBehave posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I posted this as feedback in another thread but felt it would be better served as a suggestion. Regarding the dark. I do enjoy the idea of having the realism of being in the woods or outdoors without electricity. However in the real world, after a period of time your eyes will adjust to the darkness, allowing you to see shapes and maneuver in the darkness. Having spent time outdoors in the wilderness, whenever you are far from artificial light and the moon is out, the environment is actually very bright. With moonlight and adjustment to darkness you can see quite well in an environment. I would love to see some sort of visual adjustment over time when playing at night and allow for more environmental lighting when the moon is out. Perhaps an option would be to have an effect that allows a visual gradient that improves visual radiant light over time? If you respawn or log in, it is darkness but over a period of twenty minutes you are able to gain some visual accuity at night? I know there are other visual effects from losing blood or being knocked out. I was thinking it would be an interesting effect to have some adjustment so that you don't have 100% night blindness all the time. For someone who plays after work, this means I am forced to spend the majority of my playtime on night servers or try and find the rare server that is at daytime for my PST North America Primetime. (which means playing on EU servers with a very high ping) Thanks! -

1.7.1.2: Dropping weapon drops ~60 hatchets + crashes server?

This is really bigger than a bug report when it crashes entire servers and dumps everyone on it. -

Can someone explain to me how the game works, because I'm failing miserably
MissBehave replied to Enfrozt's topic in New Player Discussion
Welcome to DayZ! The recent patch that went out had some bugs in it that may have made your first experience a bit brutal. Also they just removed the starter gun, food and additional supplies. 1.7.1.2 looks like it will fix some of the bugs and introduce melee weapons in rough form. My advice with the new patch would be to move slow, crawl when in doubt. Crouch run when you think you can but use shift while crouching to walk. Double tapping shift will engage slow walk when standing or crouched and slow crawl when crawling. Stay behind zombies when you can. Being a noob without a gun, if you hear gunshots I would get the heck outta town. If you aggro zombies you can go inside a building with two exits and dodge them out the back. You can enter buildings that have windows you can see into. Zombies slow inside buildings so easier to shoot. You can also lose them by zig zagging around buildings or trees in the forest. Use cans, bottles, smoke grenades, chemlights or flares to distract them and it will help you get around them; however be careful at night as flares can be spotted forever. You can put them in your inventory and select them with the F key. Throw with Left Mouse button. Right mouse button tap will look down weapon sights. Holding right mouse button will zoom, handy for plotting routes. I have a blog entry that might be helpful with some basics about gameplay style. Hope it helps just a bit. Hard Lessons Learned While Surviving A Zombie Apocalypse Good luck! -
You know that 1.7.1.2 is rolling out right now? How can you not want Hawt chicks and melee weapons?!!!

DayZ Mod is hitting Television News!

It gets to them eventually though' date=' that's the problem... [/quote'] So what. People that are conservative, survivalist and gun nuts sound like the perfect kind of people for this game to me. -
I recently wrote a blog article about an encounter with Razor Wire. I would caution going over it, but it can be done. A Cautionary Tale About Virtual Bromance and Razor Wire Enjoy!

PROTIP: Having a hatchet is going to be very useful.
MissBehave replied to ssg (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the entrenching tool and spools of wire, I am really hoping for being able to build some sort of shack or reinforced encampment. A hatchet for felling trees would be perfect; not really need to invoke a melee attack that could require a much longer development or drastic change to Arma. Perhaps even build a root cellar or some sort of cache to store weapons and food? -

Will there be a patch for the food shortage?

Hi there! Rocket just sent out a tweet regarding this: Hope this helps! -
I didn't think I would enjoy the No Gun spawns as much as I am. With the increased loot drops it makes it much more challenging but also more enjoyable as I can equip better than I previously had. (If I can manage to survive to a house). Because zombies are now inside structures when I approach, and I have no weapon, this is making it quite the challenge. Basically I have found that I need to aggro the zombies in a structure and run for my life and try to ditch them. In one particular instance I got a huge group after me when I had no gun. I hightailed it through the woods, ducking and zig-zagging through trees and shrubs. I was able to ditch all of them except one. I was lucky enough to find a very large tree in the forest. What ensued was long battle of a zombie chasing me around a tree in circles, almost like dancing around a maypole. I would work to keep the tree between myself and the infected mechanic who viewed me as his next meal. Finally after much chasing around that tree I was able to keep out of line of sight from him and go prone. I backward crawled away from the tree and left him in the woods still looking for me. Now that the group of zombies was scattered I was able to enter the barn and finally get a weapon. Survivor Victory and Thank God for Trees! Enjoy! I would love to hear other tales of how you managed to avoid zombies and survive with no weapon. :)

How I Eluded a Zombie Horde With No Gun

Anybody else having trouble finding food/water?

This mod is popular enough that it really needs an expanded community team for support, both for Rocket and the community itself. This would help improve communication, provide a more expansive method of collecting metrics and feedback for Rocket and free him up to focus on what he needs to do to improve the game.

Food and drinks impossible to find since 1.7.1.1
MissBehave replied to Jorden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am going to add that there just doesn't seem to be many new drops or the drops are really delayed.. I searched for hours on several characters across multiple servers. Only time I found any food was a pepsi on a dead zombie. The only guns I could find were ones that were rarely looted, like the CZ550 and the most ammo I found total the whole night was 10 rounds after about 3 hours of gameplay and going through cherno, electro, side town, polana etc.. Not 10 clips, 10 rounds from a lee enfield and 2 clips. Deerstands were empty. Store was empty except for wood and empty cans. Couldn't find matches, canteens, flares or even spare bandages. Found a few crosswbows but no bolts. I found a bunch of dead survivor bodies that were not despawning quickly either and they had backpacks full of nothing as well. My friend was checking deerstands and he said he could look in with binoculars and see items in the deerstand. When he got to the deerstand the items would despawn. He would walk away and go back to the deerstand a few minutes later and the items would appear in the deerstand but then despawn when he got close to it. Hope this helps track down the issue that is causing this. I didn't make it to the hospitals to see if morphine is dropping, but after having several broken legs and none in our starter gear.. it makes if pretty difficult to survive at this point. Looking forward to this getting fixed and hope this is useful to those that are going to research it in the morning.
