Dont understand why sidechannel was taken out
MissBehave replied to dsm1891's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I miss sidechat. I would love to see a survivor radio and a bandit radio channel. Of course there would always be spying, but I think this would help bring people together, especially new players. I have used direct chat ALL week. Know how many responses I have gotten? One and it was garbled Russian. Everytime I used direct chat all that happened was noone else talking and I ended up getting shot and killed. Having a broader chat or radio channel would be great for enlisting help from other survivors, or bandits, to fight the otherside and work together. With all the different versions of the game right now, you have chat disabled but older versions running it. So now you have players that half can talk, and others can't. -
Broken bones, no morphine, not fun.
MissBehave replied to mrperson666's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You used to see morphine sticks sometimes in houses along with other residential loot. I haven't seen this for awhile now. I think it would be helpful to have morphine drop back in houses and other places again. Right now, you end up funneling all the players to just a few locations and it is really easy to break a leg at this point. -
The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!

I think it would be easier to build some community in game with a better communication system. Better bandit community and better survivor community. There does need to be some tweaking of player vs player damage and zombie AI. However if you want to BUILD a community, you need to support those people by giving them some basic tools to do so. Only a small percentage of your players are using the forums and removing an in-game chat mechanism without any additional support for players isn't going to make the bitching go away. -

More Challenging PvP and the Zombie Zerging
MissBehave posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was thinking about how to make the PvP more challenging and fun. Something that still gives some cushion to newer players, and those players with a more ethical bend to NOT shooting every survivor on site, but also maintains fun for those players who want to define their fun as killing everyone else. I would propose an increase in the amount of modifier applied to player damage vs player. In essence, lets say that right now your bullets do 100% damage to zombies and 50% damage to players. I think it would be more interesting to tune it to more 30% damage vs players. I think this would allow for some interesting battles, where when you get clipped you have more opportunity to return fire and those that initiate the engagement have to be a bit more choosy in their strategy. Right now you have players just sprinting around town and dragging a train of zombies while they go full auto on survivors. They do this because they know if they hit you, there is no consequence for them. They get you almost instantly passed out and the zombies glitch ,enough for a moment, for them to run off nearly unscathed. None of that encounter is realistic. I would imagine you would hear the screaming horde behind a guy. Someone running at full sprint and spraying full auto wouldn't have the best control with a horde straight on their heels. This kind of behavior in a city should bring infected pouring out after someone acting that loudly in a town. If the zombie reaction isn't cranked up then perhaps tuning down the player vs player damage would be a worthwhile investment. If the amount of zombies that spawn based on this wouldn't be cranked up (which honestly would be pretty interesting), the ability of the victim to return fire and survive for longer would create a more realistic environment. Similar to battle, this would force players just zombie zerging to have to adjust their play-style because it would now have risk. When you are fighting, the adrenaline is pumping, non-fatal wounds aren't going to make you pass out immediately and not every gunshot wound, somewhere on your body, equates to the kind of force a fatal shot to the head or heart will do. As someone who enjoys more tactical PvP, I think it would be really more interesting to have challenging fights where I really need to WORK to try and kill someone, at some risk to myself. TL:DR - There are other threads about the zombie spawns but wanted to throw out some ideas for making combat a bit more interesting for those that love it, but also gives others a chance to fight and maneuver. -
More Challenging PvP and the Zombie Zerging
MissBehave replied to MissBehave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think you can 'Force' people to play a certain way. We are gamers and we will always find the easiest route for the least amount of work. AND we will play entirely as unintended in a game as you can possibly find. (hence why you need great QA) However I think you can add some modifiers to make the boundaries more interesting. I liked having more zombies. Right now the streets seem empty and the zombie reaction seems like it still needs some tweaking. I am not sure if that is feasible right now, so it seems that a possible path is to increase the modifier on player vs player damage and give it a trial run, just like we are giving a trial run on spawning with no gun. Let it run and see what happens. You could still PK to your hearts content, play however you want. I think it would create a much more dynamic gaming experience. -

More Challenging PvP and the Zombie Zerging

I think it would really add some longevity and interest to those players that 'Have all the vehicles and weapons'. Seems the mode is get all the weapons then head to cherno to shoot everyone that just came off the beach. Seems to me that allowing for some combat to evolve, it would be more risky for those with the toys and create something interesting for those that are geared to go up against equally geared players. -
Some people misunderstand *broken legs / morphin*

Basically right now morphine is being used as the throttle to create a more difficult experience. I am looking forward to see how this evolves. -
Looting barns and cities pointless?
MissBehave replied to execpro22's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly the military areas should be crawling with way more zombies. A military base the size of the airfields should have easily 5x the amount of zombies it does now. Though I love the deer stands, 3 zombies wandering around is too easy for the weapons and gear you get. -

Learn to use direct voice chat. If they don't answer, well there you go.

This is the best PVP game ever created
MissBehave replied to disastr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Though I love PvP, a lot of the combat between players I wouldn't even term PvP. A sniper in a ghillie suit, camping out and shooting newbs with flashlights in Electro is just like fishing at a fish farm. No real contest to it. I would love to see some consequences to murdering other people. People are too quick to just shoot without even finding out first if the person is someone they can team up with and actually survive better. Learn to use direct chat. There is really no reason to run around and shoot players on the beach with flashlights, it just seal clubbing. Would love to see group battles for resources instead of flashlight wars in that respect. -
If you can talk in Side Chat you have WRONG version
MissBehave posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have seen a few players on servers today talking in side chat and wondering why no-one is talking back to them. If you can talk in side chat, you are not running the same version as everyone else. With the beta, I think, the side chat is disabled in 1.7.1.5 currently. Just thought this might be helpful to those new players that are spamming why no-one is answering them. -

99% of the time I use a mic and say friendly or whatever and I still get shot with only my dang flashlight. I don't think some people care and others don't speak english.

I just had this happen. I logged in, was running through the woods with over 11k health and then I am dead. No bullets or anything. :( /NoRaisins :-/

I loved this story! I would love to see more players using direct communications now that side chat is gone. It makes for some interesting interactions. I realized this myself as I kept speaking in direct communication with a mic only to realize that the reason the other player wasn't responding is he spoke russian. =D

Just saw this after making another thread. Oh well. >.< I will just copy below what I had posted in case it gets moved or something. *** Hello everyone! I have been fortunate to play with a couple of friends in DayZ and have been tracking our progress, sharing our experiences for both amusement and to assist other players. I invite you to read my latest article on my blog: Spam’s New Gun – Facing Death in Novy Sobor. This is a continuation of the adventure we experienced in going up to the Northwest airfield for the first time. ( A Cautionary Tale About Virtual Bromance and Razor Wire ). I hope you enjoy it and that our experiences help give you ideas of how to survive and explore in the world of DayZ. Stay alive out there!
