The hacker problem, open discussion - Player: "Have you gotten banned at all from official servers?" Hacker: "Once, in the past three years."
nemorus replied to dunafornicator's topic in General Discussion
Don't play on official. Never ever. Active moderation is like a job. Only private servers can have that kind of service working. And yes, not all of them. But you'll find communities worth your while. -
Because raiding in vanilla generally ain't good. Special raiding equipment is the answer. Raiding hacksaw & sledgehammer were probably the best options i've personally seen. These things were hard to get and very strategic. Shooting / Blowing is only good for big groups - when playing solo its almost out of question, simply because of zergs.

We have Takistan available right now - and its not a popular one, that's for sure. Even when its not looking that bad. Its just too linear. Game has its limitations so it really can't tell the tale about desert and its charm. We also have Deer Isle with different spots around it. Swan Island, North Heaven - you can jog there topless and won't freeze your.. valuables during the day. You know how it is - it took them long years to come up with this new port. "Frostline"s Sakhal is reworked Tanoa region from ARMAIII. Also its the smallest official map - half the size of Livonia. I just can't see them coming up with more. Winter map was special - because of winter mods and Namalsk. It garnered attention from people, unlike desert...

Why is Balota airfield runway overgrown or missing?
nemorus replied to wadiman355's topic in General Discussion
It was supposed to be an abandoned army camp or at least an old site of such. First the war, then the infected - all that was left was garbage left in a hurry. -
Why is Balota airfield runway overgrown or missing?
nemorus replied to wadiman355's topic in General Discussion
They never had a solid vision for that airfield, especially since its a part of spawn stage. Perhaps the only way out of this is renaming it into "Old airfield". -
Survivors in this game aren't random at all. Look at vanilla: they can jog pretty much indefinitely - try to replicate that feat irl. They're proficient with every possible gun and they kill like its nothing - no mental shock, no penalties, no trauma. They get hurt a lot and only grumble a bit even when moving around with broken bones. Use tools of various sorts with ease, everything is done fast and efficient. Even with us behind the wheel the potential is obvious. These are not normal people. Super soldiers at least.

I know. Because people were turning it off ASAP.

Heights of Tarkov? Really? Tarkov is Tarkov, DayZ is DayZ - these games are completely different. In DayZ you can do a ton of miscellaneous things other than loot & shoot. And Tarkov is no more than extraction shooter. You go, kill, loot and maybe escape. It's all this game is. It was supposed to be different long time ago, but its not. People are the backbone of sandboxes like DayZ. They're making their gameplay, whataver they want. I've even seen DayZ converted into karaoke lounge for pete's sake. End of story.

Forever? Since when? The only instance when container such as tent cannot be removed is when player deploy it in a way that activation field is beyond reach (in a wall for instance). But it would still be possible to "remove it" with fire, unless administration turned that option off. Moving containers around is pretty standard thing - either during additional construction or raiding. I've done that million times myself. And yes - there is no such thing as important or less. Remember when they've added repair option for Teddy Bears? It was nothing for majority of people. Except for me, since i'm collecting them big time :).

There is a mini-game within "DayZ" that people hate with passion. It is a tetris-type of game which happens in peoples pockets. Usually its bearable, but in life of every man there comes a time when one needs to build a house. Almost every base has its storage. Let's say that we have a tent - no, lets make it two tents, garage ones for more dramatic effect. In each one we have a *** ton of small, yet very important items such as spark plugs and.. paper. A lot of paper. One day a need arise to work with the wall behind the tent. Too bad - there are millions of items in the way. One must click on every damn thing to move it. But what if there was an easy way out? I suggest what prolly every file manager offers: selection area. You click, you hold, you select area inside container and then you drink your tea waiting. Process could be stopped at any time so its safe. Well? Isn't that a nice idea that needs to be implemented ASAP? I know, i know - You're loving it. No need to be shy :).

You have some good points there. But it would be easier with list. You could stuff additional descriptions beneath each point.

If we're talking about flaws... What about sprint jumping? You know, when you want to cross a hole or something. Most of the times character will jump in place or worse, jump just enough to get itself in trouble. For me it's easy: you sprint, jam jumping button next to the hole and you fly over it. But the weight is weird or maybe balance. Character is like a bag of rocks - it feels like that. That's why i hate any form of acrobatics in this game. Chance of failing those is always high simply because you can't control that.. bag of rocks.

The game has become more of a shooter than a survival game
nemorus replied to noob from Poland's topic in Suggestions
In fact these are all things that were constantly being called since this game was launched :p. It was supposed to DIE miserably because of that. And what you know? - its still kicking. In fact there is no reason to have any type of hopes for vanilla. The devs are giving assets and functions - which is more than enough for modders. I mean this game without mods is no more than trial version. Its solid on its own but also not enough to feel the need to grind, to feel immersion. Paper notes, precision immersive object placing - example of small mods that are changing so much! The only thing that - imho - this game truly needs is private effort. We all need servers that are well balanced with mods and configs. The absolute worst thing in "DayZ" is always the same. And that is finding a server. In all my years of playing that game i've seen no more than 3 great servers with Administrators that knew what they were doing. But too bad. Running a server not only cost a lot - it also takes time. Its like additional job. Well balanced server will give exactly what OP here wants. And much more. -
Gonna ask again - because i don't belive you have nothing there. Can you make a screenshot and copy exactly what game's throwing at ya at that moment? "You were kicked" is vague - there should be more info right next to it.
-
Namalsk and Deer Isle smuggled their lore that way - through notes. And i'd say its a nice addition to their stories. Still... Best notes in this game are player created ones. But too bad - Bohemia did not reintroduced that feature for vanilla. We only have mods - and let me tell you, they're great!
-
Really nothing? No error? Just "you were kicked"? Weird. Usually it means ping. But not always.
-
"(...)No one owes you anything and no one will adapt to your desires(...)" - yeah, you go and tell that to yer gov or better - try to discuss it with OMON or local police. If THEY have business your're no more than cannon fodder.

Which error? auth login state?

Another game with omnipotent characters, huh? Well, at least in "Skyrim" town guards know about your misdemeanors because of real spies. Chickens, bees, horses and alike snitch on ya constantly. But here in "DayZ" we don't have such grand intelligence network on hand. Unless infected could be persuaded to share their knowledge that is. And bartering... An old topic that is. People were doing that for years with each other - that is if they wanted such interaction. Trader mod could be a nice addition - but i honestly don't see it. Too much of a hassle. And there would almost no interaction - because AI is AI. And in this game AI is dumb.
-
I remember the times when fov was still in menu :P. People were always fooling around with that slider when there was a need for their sniping abilities. Its probably why it was removed - much like gamma. So people would have to try a bit harder to get similar results :).
-
I had something like that, many years ago. Back then it was hardware-related. Won't say exactly what because i haven't test it step by step. If you're certain that its not a config file that's making a joke on ya, then i'd say its something physical. Might be memory or ssd - these two are most important parts for "DayZ".
-
Stats are available even in vanilla - its your fault for not seeing them. Admins can also gather that data and make it public - its their choice. People can log off because they're people. That makes this game more "realistic" (hate the term...). And cheaters... Yeah, this slime is a problem. Its not grave-level problem, but it happens and needs additional care.
-
Three very different servers, with their own modlists. Mine were quite vanilla-ish, nothing serious. Bug can be reproduced quite easily: find a bear, aggro it and immediately log off (click option to exit to menu). Few minutes later log back and there's a decent chance that the character will pop up knocked out.

I've discovered an interesting problem that wasn't present in the past versions of the game. Server i was playing on experienced some kind of a lag where one could not interact with environment and npcs were stagnant. Was kicked shortly after. I've logged back in few minutes later only to find my character knocked out and bleeding - prolly from npcs. After awhile the black screen of unconscious state faded into one where there was no option to do anything worthwhile. It's like being conscious but with all of unconscious-state features still on. It's possible to move only head - up and down. Every other option (modded excluded) is not available. Menu has "respawn" button ready to go. Relog equals suicide. Waiting does nothing. I've confirmed that just know, on completely different character and server. I also present this video from youtube, where someone else experienced literally the same thing. This video is the only other proof i've found so far.
