    The Mosin

Hello, Realism. I prefer realism. This work machine is capable of running MoH Allied Assault. It barely supports Pacific Assault and anything higher won't run. The installers won't install them due to the chipset, so I don't know how they'd act. Pacific Assault is laggy even on good machines, and that's bad for me because I really want to aim down the sights. I stumbled across a mod for MOHAA that let this happen, and I'm pretty satisfied with that. For realism, were I designing the sniper Mosin for this game, I would 1. Make it a PU. I prefer the PE and PEM setups, but the PU is tougher and was just more popular. 2. The zoom would be 3.5x. That's what the original was and honestly, much more isn't good if there's realistic movement of crosshairs and the like. The US Military in WWII issued the M1903a4 sniper's rifle with 2.5x 'scopes. These were actually modifications. The M2903a4 was designed with a Ubertl 8x 'scope that proved too powerful in the relatively up-close use it saw in the Pacific and urban Atlantic theaters. Too much zoom is bad. 3. Accuracy and precision: I'd give it 2 to 3" at 100 yards with that standard surplus that was issued to infantry, and about 1MOA for the 7n1 issued to snipers. Real-life precision for the 91/30 was about 5moa for a general issue rifle, and around 4moa for the sniper version. Most all issued rifles were and are capable of 2.5moa with good ammunition. There's other stuff, likely, but you can't put trigger pulls (for example) into gameplay. I would have the crosshairs move with breathing so that you'd have to trigger the shot at NRP, but they may have thought of that. I'm off to check YouTube vids. Regards, Josh

This is just an awesome picture IMO. Looks like you can still use the iron sight with this setup as well. That second one is JMeck's mount! He's a good guy. The first mount looks like an ATI, and they're not worth much. I personally like the forward-mounted 'scope mounts as I'm a lefty and I reach over to work the bolt. Regards, Josh

Hello, I wasn't here to advertise so I didn't make the website readily apparent. Anyone have any idea how to get ahold of the folks who need to be contacted? I personally don't have a stake in this matter; it's only because a couple customers contacted me about it that I stopped by. Very cool looking game that I'd love to play sometime, though! Regards, Josh

Hello, Can you fill me on on this? Earlier posters thinking this was concrete? I don't want to waste anyone's time if this is not going forward. I'm actually here between manufacturing stages. That's when I try to drop around to talk on gun forums, and I decided to add this to my rounds as I was able to make time for it. I guess I don't understand where you all are at in this, and my specialties are limited to the Mosin right now. My modding skill stopped around 1996; I did write a couple mods for a Star Trek game but that was a long time ago. Regards, Josh

Mike, I don't know what their usernames here are, or if they're even members. Could be lurkers. If you PM me email addresses, I can confirm/deny for you. Could have just been random folks who play the game. I flat don't know. I can take the pics down. That's not a big deal. Anything I can help with, I'd be wiling. All I was told was that something's in development and they'd like to see one in there. I assume it's for Standalone, but I don't know. If I pull the pics, I'll stick around if you all would like and see what I can do to help with the old milsurps in standalone. The Mosin isn't the only one I own. Regards, Josh

Hi Folks, I have that Brass Stacker mount referenced by C.O. Wolf and can attest to its quality. In fact, I have a Brass Stacker leather cuff with cheek piece to go with it. I don't mount it for ranges under 200 yards, usually. But it does work, and it works well. There are all sorts of sights I make. They are ... and several others, plus mix and match posts. The red one looks like this: The green one looks similar, only, you know, green. This is Brass Stacker's butt cuff I use with the 'scope next to the one I use with iron sights (mounted): The PU 'scope will slide into place if the mount is already on. The majority of Mosins, it is not. The Brass Stacker mount uses the mounting holes on the rear sight. Just some thoughts. Regards, Josh

Hi Folks, I'm Josh Smith from Smith Sights. It's kinda' awkward coming here because I'm don't play this game. This game looks cool; unfortunately my laptop will not support it with the mobile chipset. All else is good but the mobile video chipset, and I flat don't have time to build a gaming machine like I'd like to do. I was contacted a couple months ago by a couple people who play DayZ. They mentioned something about this game and wanted to know if a Mosin skin could be made which uses my sights, and that I might mention it here. I flat don't care if you all use any of my sights for models. I have some down-barrel pictures of the red sight and the standard sight I make if you need a reference. I don't know for sure that the folks who emailed me about this were or are members here, but if you are, you're welcome to jump in if you'd like. I really enjoy seeing a modern-set game with Mosins in it even if, at this time, I can't play it. A lot of the mods done today would be out of place in the WWII games, but this one is pretty cool for them. Additionally, if you all need any input about Mosins, I would be glad to answer questions so far as I can, anway. I've been studying the practical uses and mods for the rifle for over three years now, building mainly on Finnish work from the '20s and '30s. I never claim to be an expert at anything, but if anything I've played with will help you folks out, you're more than welcome to use it or ask about it. Regards, Josh
