Pretty much. Being shot at, you'll not only hear the rifle projecting the shot, but if it's close by you'll hear a whizz, bang, pop, snap, crack all sorts.

Not sure, I try to report as many as I can. Some GSP's are happy to comply, others just won't even return an email.

I shit you not, this is exactly what I said the first time I played DayZ with a clan mate. Just a distinct lack of sheep, really. I think it looks like an apocalypse, just needs more Zombies, maybe even herds of Zombies. I specifically like the idea of some doors open and some closed, some shelves and units knocked over or barricaded, windows shattered and blood stains leading from under the bed. The military installments also look like they abandoned pretty hastily.

My Zombie friend wants a word with your idea of 'realistic' gameplay. But yeah, it's a great idea to get some other RDS on the Mosin - I usually play with a long range but if I'm ever needed in the group to take someone out who's closer then I have to detach, use awful iron sights and then re-attach the long range scope.

So, following information on reddit and the rules here I decided to contact various GSP's requesting action for them to enforce the DayZ ToS (Clan/Loot servers). I emailed a large list of various IP's with their names to several GSP's and most of them replied with either "None of these servers belong to us" or "We'll contact the various server administrators right away". This response, from Multiplay however caught my eye;

Thank you! It's great to see some feedback to reports, I'm not sure if the rest of the community shares my opinion here, but it's greatly reassuring to hear from yourself. Perhaps, if not done so already - assigning someone/team to directly deal with hosts that aren't enforcing the ToS. Self protection! I like it! It would be great if there wasn't an easier option, but I'd prefer focus to stay on game development. As I started playing the game I preferred the option of just surviving, staying away from the gun fights but once you get into a group or a clan there's a lot more to the game in terms of just wandering around searching for food. The servers that really get to me are the "character reset if you join servers", it's almost as a threat and to anyone who may be new to the game it can be really off-putting.

No one mentioned the word? Being locked, I read on here that server admins may not have the ability to put a password on the server and since playing DayZ I've come across a few locked servers. I would also be under the impression that any server the developers use would be privately hosted and not publicly listed.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit strange that DayZ development would have their own publicly hosted server like that?

I don't doubt you do, it's just that my ISP can't handle anything besides UK or Germany servers :( Didn't mean to put off any potential UK players, just a person preference!

I recently joined a regular server that was empty, hoping to get some NEAF loot, I was running down the hill when I got this error and thought I'd re-join again, maybe it was just a one off? But nope, had the 'authentication timeout' error again, it's a bit strange as it seems the game just freezes until you click 'ok' and then it boots you back into the server browser. Not like any other error message I've seen on DayZ before. No wonder it was empty, I just thought I had a lucky find :(

I got my first confirmed kill today. I was in Northeast Airfield in a jail with a few buddies, when we cleared the building I was pointman, checked windows, checked as much as I could from within the building and started moving out of the doors, at which time I noticed some big blue beret steam rolling it's way to my location! I ran back in, shut the doors and hope he ran the opposite way as well. Needles to say, he wasn't - we all shuffled back, spreading into the computer room, one went upstairs and I had door duty with nothing but an engraved 1911. Seconds later he entered, I unloaded a clip into him, shuffled a corner and reloaded when he came running in, lit him up with lead and he was down. During the time I was pretty amazed. This is the only game that has given me an adrenaline boost like that, I double tapped into his crown and checked the body (Everything was ruined besides a Blaze Rifle). I got to the treeline and logged for a smoke and it did get me thinking, was he simply trying to better his conditions, would he have shot first if I didn't? He had a fair bit of equipment on him. But screw that, it's a dog eat dog world, I've been killed before, this guy has been killed before. Respawn, grab an M4 do it all over again.

It's never even occurred to me that you can read the books, I've always taken them for worthless junk and never picked one up! Might have to this, setup camp, read a book and live a little outside of Berezino for a while! Also; Hello native Welshman!

Pretty bad, in my opinion. I was very much a rager when I got killed, and it still gets to me now, but the game is basically just that.. You come across gear, you kill people, people kill you. Rinse and repeat. Until the game can progress where it's much more of a survival theatre, protect yourself from large groups of zombie, barricade building etc then the game will always be in a player vs player situation. Take my advice, if you spawn and want to get away from the bad guys, do it swiftly! The map is a lot bigger than you may think and it doesn't take a lot of time to find a low pop server and run somewhere other that Berezino/Svetlojarsk/NEAF.
