Experimental Branch: 0.45 Discussion

I've never seen the moon even come out and sometimes I join matches at like 2AM by accident and it's just pitch black. It still should be lighter though guess I'll ramp my brightness up and get a headache when its daytime... EDIT earlier on I played for like an hour in the dark with gamma and brightness up, it was still barely playable. Set it to the default settings and you'll see just how ridiculously dark the game is at night. -

It does in the game? I've wandered around for at least half an hour in the dark and that never happened to me, not as much as in real life either. Unless because I usually have aviators on that actually makes a difference... -
Well they could just make it an encrypted file and a file dedicated to your computer so you couldn't just download sets of specific gear. How many people would go to the effort of decrypting them really? And there's probably some way they could detect if it's been tampered with and just keep deleting their character. I still think a handful of people spawning gear sets even if they could would be better than joining a server basically being like a lottery of doom, it is just a game sure but you could put days worth of work in to gathering stuff and then it's just all gone >.>

That shit happened to me the other day I found my first engraved 1911 didn't even know they were in the game... Luckily my character came back though, no idea why but thank the lord since then I found a clip for the gun too. Have they ever said why your character just gets deleted sometimes? I'm all for "we're fixing it" but I'd like to know how such a thing happens in the first place, surely it should just work like a save file in your DayZ folder that gets deleted upon your death?

It's great slowly evolving and learning the ins and outs huh. Bad luck with that horde though most I've had come at me is 4, this was before they could go upstairs though so I escaped...just. Have you got an iPod or smartphone? There's a map app(it's free) for the game that works offline I found it very handy, then you can just have your browser off to save your computers RAM and to not have to switch to it. I think there's a paid one too that gives you map markers and stuff, shows where loot is too but that's kinda cheating I'd say the map makes it a lot easier to navigate, more so than the in game maps. Over 90 hours played and only know my way to like three places...

Sleeping bags would have to leave a sleeping body on the server. Ever played Rust? Sleepers get hacked to death and robbed all the time. Until we can barricade ourselves in someplace this is not a good idea. Well no I was meaning that if you get in your sleeping bag and quit the game you go in to a sleep status so depending on how long you're away from the game you recover so many points of stamina. So you quit out and spawn in your sleeping bag as if you've been laying there sleeping the whole time even though you're probably in a different server. Having to use a fire to dry your clothes is crap in my opinion, it's good as an option but you should just be able to take your coat off and wring it out so that it's not soaking, reducing it to damp status which should go away over time. Camp fires should be the best at drying your clothes coupled with being the most risky option then squeezing the water out of your clothes manually is something everyone can do, but with your clothes being damp you still run the light risk of getting a cold or any other ailments getting worse. I like that camp fires are going to be part of the world, adds some authenticity to survival but I don't think they should be required in order to survive, just be the quickest option. They're much better for groups too on your own having to carry loads of logs would be a pain where you could have one guy carrying that stuff, medic, sniper and assault player in a group that is when they are best used. I mean how many bits of wood do we need for a camp fire? Because one wouldn't cut it 3 or four bits should be necessary at the very lest, they stack up to like 6 don't they? (which is ridiculous anyway) so if they were very important wood is taking up a lot of your inventory. Static camp fires that you maybe add one log too would be better I think, even riskier but still easier to use. -
I think this is something the server owners/admins can do to you. At least I see a lot of servers that say things like "if you join you'll be banned and lose your stuff" It's like admins can click on your name and press the "be a douchebag" option to reset your character. Sometimes if you die real quick your character can come back I find, not always though it's really weird hopefully your character will just be saved and only reset if you die in future.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
UltimateGentleman replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
That's what I mean not like Wolverine claws :D Imagine that though. If they're going to have zombies that run on all fours, like in Red Dead Redemption then I think they should have long nails and cut you. Maybe they could be hairy and freaky looking too, perhaps their hair and nails continue to grow so an older zombie has the nails and hair then that would make it seem like the more fresh zombies are from people recently killed instead of just everyone but players being dead. As for weight...I think people should still be able to run faster with lots of gear on, but for a LOT less longer. So you could escape one zombie but not be energized or hydrated any more, currently those status' last forever so it would increase the need to actually use and find food. Could chalk the equal speed up to being adrenaline making your character go nuts, burning through their stamina. -
Your funny/awesome moments
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Awesome. Nice shot too :P funny when you can make being a murdering psycho fall back on people. Did you add the surprise motherf***er to the video or did you play that in the game? That would be hilarious, I wouldn't even be mad if someone killed me. I have this Scarface voice thing press buttons on it and it plays clips from the friend, when I get a mic totally going to play "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND" then kill people. Guys pretty sure he left the Mosin there and baited the dude on purpose doubt he's trying to make it look like it was an accident. Otherwise it totally is possible to find one there, somebody could have dropped it in favour of one of the better guns at the airfield I leave mine laying around all the time. -
Non kos is as much of a thrill as kos
UltimateGentleman replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I don't see how it's fun, only in battlezones. What's so fun and rewarding about killing fresh spawns or people with practically nothing? I think it's far more of a thrill to KoS if they have gear, it's their fault for not being vigilant. -
Why wont people play in the night ?
UltimateGentleman replied to Vidura's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, have you ever walked around at night away from street lights? It's not pitch black your eyes adjust and you can make out basic detail and if the moon is out then you can see decent enough to navigate. But in game it's just blackness the stars are the only light source that isn't artificial and are basically all you can see. If they made it so you could see a little and then added things like night vision goggles I'm sure way more people would play at night. -
Why wont people play in the night ?
UltimateGentleman replied to Vidura's topic in General Discussion
I agree with this however I think they should make night not optional. Not every server should run at the same time though that would be ridiculous what about people in different time zones? No. All they need to do is make it a bit brighter at night, so you can just barely see without a torch. Who the hell wants to play a game where you can see like a foot in front of you for hours? That's not realistic at all the moon should give a nice glow to the landscape. Hardly anyone plays at night because without torches you can't enjoy it, and with torches some a-hole could be sitting on a hill looking at your "SHOOT ME I'M OPEN" light I'd love to play at night but it's just far too dark and hardly anyone does it. If zombies didn't spawn at night then night would be cool for some tactical PVP without zombie interference, that's another thing I think they should do. Maybe zombies get too cold and can't move properly at night could be explained some way like that. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
UltimateGentleman replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I think most people aren't really seeing where they hit the zombies, in third person aiming at the head you're hitting their shoulder most of the time. It's a lot easier in first person, so long as you click on their head they usually go down. There's the odd case of them getting back up but when it takes like 10 hits you're just doing it wrong. What I notice is in first person, disregard the attack animation. If you click on their head you hit their head you don't have to try time the swing to hit them it just does unless it's lagging out. But they are too powerful and too fast. Why do they cause bleeding at all anyway? Punch someone in the arm, they're not going to start bleeding they'll get a bruise or a fracture at best. If some zombies had some kind of claws then that would be better but atm they just slap you and suddenly your arm rips open. I think they should add a zombie type that has claws for bleeding and otherwise they should cause rib fractures and make your character in pain, bruises(then painkillers could actually do something) The more pain your character is in the more likely they are to get knocked out. A pain status is the way to go bleeding should be relatively uncommon and more dangerous, sewing kit should be used to stitch wounds for faster healing bandages shouldn't be an insta-fix of course. Anyway I think he devs should just stop adding new features to zombies and making them more powerful until they can't run through walls, they can go upstairs now there is almost no escape it takes minutes to get ahead of them you only run like .5% faster than them... -
Yeah zombies might as well be Gods. In first person it's a lot easier to kill them with a head shot though but they're still way too OP. I think this server timer needs to be sorted out big time, I know server hopping is a problem but is there no way to tell if somebody is doing that? I was playing a server a good couple of hours then it got super laggy so I thought I'd leave. Joined another favourite server. 500 second wait, seriously? And it hadn't just restarted or anything nor was it full only had like 9 people. It's great that people can't server hop to spam loot drops but they should find a way to detect if that's what people are doing, if the server you were on or you yourself experienced some severe lag before you quit the game should know that and give you a break. Also it's not specific servers it just seems to have a set time around 500 seconds, I can try join server A 500 seconds...wait for 20 seconds and try server B, 480 seconds and it just counts down until finally one is joinable. Then half the time that one is broken or just restarting >.>

I like the idea but they're stupid if lots of people are playing at night, if I see three guys round a campfire I can just kill them all before they know where I am, if they're sitting down, before they even stand up. I think if you're in the dark for a little while it should get brighter, to show your eyes adjusting to the light that would be awesome. What would be better is a sleeping bag so you could find some hopefully empty house and sit around for the night, perhaps they could add in a status for sleep deprivation(they probably plan to) Then you and your buddies could have a slumber party in a house with a lamp, campfires at night I think should be if you're desperate for warmth. Sleep status' and ways to sleep would be great, leave a server while you're in a sleeping bag and then if you're playing the game over 8 hours later your character becomes well rested. With being well rested you can run longer and switching items in the hotbar is faster. Sleeping bag in a house could be the ideal situation but other than that perhaps you could craft a blanket out of rags for sleeping in the rough and there could be a function that makes you lay in a sleeping position to rest, putting the game off initiates sleep and just sitting slowly recovers tiredness. Imo that would be better campfires sound great but in practice I don't think they'll be that great only for drying yourself off. -

When campfires are introduced, are they going to change how dark it is at night? You literally can't see anything but the sky for most of it, there should be some low level light at least just so people can actually play at night without torches. The moon should give people enough light to just barely see. I don't really see the value to campfires if playing at night is almost pointless, hardly anyone else plays, campfire makes you a target and you can't see anything beyond the campfire so why sit for hours when you can go on a daylight server? Actually do zombies appear less frequently at night? I don't see many but if they don't spawn, having low level light could make for some great battles without zombies. Then campfires could be great to lure people over but you should at least be able to see a shadow in the distance if they're moving. -

On one server I some guy was blasting music from Rocky by the town near the NE airfield. Was looking for him for AGES trying to kill him lol it was like they were hidden in the ground or something and then someone spoke on chat but nowhere to be found o.0 -
In game it's a tough choice for me, I think the SKS is a lot better/more efficient, can always hold 10 rounds, accurate and powerful. It's a great find(although easy since it's in those big white houses like 99% of the time) and will last you. However against an M4 user or multiple it's quite difficult to take them on they can just hold down fire and not have to care too much about aiming, then in the off chance neither player dies they no doubt have at least two more clips to use where the SKS clips are rather scarce I find. So I'd say the SKS is a much better option but using the M4 is a slightly better idea, because almost everyone else does and it gives you way more of a chance against groups since clips are in no way hard to come by. I too think the M4 should be a hell of a lot more hard to find, pristine parts should be hard to come by too if you go to the biggest airfield and go through all the hangers on a recently restarted server if you don't get a fully pristine M4 something has went badly wrong with the world, it is too easy to get. The only thing I find semi rare to get is a good suppressor. Hopefully they make it spawn less and then hopefully people won't think having one makes them "elite" because it's rare... And also SKS clips need to be way more common, you don't totally need them but in a fire fight having to open your inventory is a pain. It's doable but those couple of seconds are all someone needs to run round the corner and rip you apart.

(this may have been discussed before but it's not coming up with similar topics so what the hell) Since the aim of this game is to be authentic or seem real, will we see some gore do you think? Like zombies actually eating dead people, maybe dead NPC's too, could have carcasses laying around in various locations currently it's just some empty land with the occasional blood stain. Right now it's almost a semi-reliable feature that you can spawn back, run a few miles and retrieve what gear whoever killed you couldn't carry or get it all back if you died another way. I do like that but if you were killed by zombies or zombies were nearby it would be cool if they actually started eating your old body, meaning you have to race back because after 10 minutes maybe everything in your pants has been ruined(along with the pants) after 20 everything on your torso, leaving the backpack for someone to probably find. Playing as someone who hasn't recently died you'd see their body being eaten and be faced with the choice of leave it since the zombies are distracted or take them on in the hopes that you get good gear or maybe just MAYBE be nice and wait to see if whoever died comes back for their gear. As for non death based gore it would be cool if when someone hits you with an axe you actually see the wound and your character actually applies first aid to it. I'm sure first aid will be a bit more detailed in the end but do you think we'll see the kind of gore I describe ever?
-
I don't think they can do too much with it except maybe add variation to the attacks, maybe you could hold the attack button for a sweep with an axe, forcing a zombie to crawl or to break players legs. When you have tons of gear on it's not really realistic to be able to roll and dive about so I don't think that's the way to go, it's unrealistic enough that you can run full speed with a mountain backpack, axe, rifle and tons of other items. Diving to the side sounds cool but in actuality you'd have to wait until your character scrambled to his feet too and rolling in real life can lead to injury, plus with a big backpack on there's going to be problems. So short off adding varied attack patterns and making combat smoother there's not much they can do sadly.

Thanks man. Well, here's my awesome set! (picture won't work now) My character got reset. For no freaking reason I just went on a server I've been on before with no problems to take a screenshot of me holding the awesome M1911 and I'm on some damn railway line as a fresh spawn. This crap is annoying I JUST found what it says is an extremely rare gun, christ sake. "Don't get too attached to your gear" and all but still it's really shitty when this happens. So my gear now: T-shirt Jeans Flashlight Battery Pure rage
-
One tip I would have if you don't know already is to run diagonally, zombies can actually catch up and hit you if you run in a straight line but if you suddenly go diagonally it takes them a second to register and by that point you're far away enough that they'll slow down and stop caring(you still need to run a good 200m though) I'm really needing a mic too you're so helpless having to stop and chat and half the time other players will just kill you if you don't talk back >.>
-
Okay, how the hell do I take a screenshot? Print screen isn't doing it, just takes a screenshot of my desktop >.> I don't have a camera or anything, except a crappy iPod one. For now I'll describe my gear: Got a DPM boonie hat, bitchin' Assault vest, awesome Some tan coat thing, not that bitchin' Winter canvas pants I think, great Main weapon is a fully kitted out M4 with a pristine suppressor first one I've found in that condition. BUT BEST OF ALL An engraved M1911 pistol, it is beautiful, anyonw else have one? I'll post a pic when I know how might have to resort to the iPod cam so it won't be superb. Seriously though this thing looks awesome, got a white handle with two skulls on each side and engravings all round the metal. No clip for it yet but damn am I hunting for one.
-
Well I think obviously they do plan to change all that but I get what you mean it would be nice if they sorted out the responsiveness sooner than some other things. I often find myself having to mash the 1 button to take my axe out because my guy just stands there while zombies are coming at him, same with taking a gun out it takes forever to you to be able to defend yourself. Unless you're using a knife then it's in your hand instantly. Jumping is a problem too especially since zombies can run through fences, I'm always finding that my character even though he was running has to stop and slowly step over a fence, which lets the zombie catch up and usually get a few hits in... I know everything can't just instantly be fixed at once but I hope responsiveness is the next thing.

Why is development time being poured into more new towns?
UltimateGentleman replied to uberfrag's topic in General Discussion
I agree we don't really need new towns right now, there's only a few buildings worth visiting in each town there's nothing really unique in places except the one crashed ship. In my opinion what it badly needs, as far as world design goes is unique places like a prison or as in a topic I mad, some gore, more blood around the place. Essentially what we need is things to add to the desolate and creepy atmosphere not forgettable looking towns with one of those blue clinics, a police station and one of those big white buildings that almost always have an SKS in them. I like to explore but there's no real value to it once you know what buildings are going to have food or ammo in them it's pointless. A prison or underground area would be fantastic for fights and exploration, especially underground since it forces you to use light sources it would be very scary to go through alone. So I think the map part of the team need to work on aesthetics right now rather than adding stuff(other than prison or underground area) In real life what two houses look the same inside? Give us some different furniture, toppled over furniture, more blood stains maybe even a few bones here and there. Just some more variety, adding more towns adds to how long that will take.
