Will the late May update fix the broken distance rendering?
UltimateGentleman replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
That's a bit dramatic dude, just stop trying to snipe people for a while until it's fixed. It is a bit worrying that they only noticed weeks after though, I get that we're basically testing the game for them but the actual development team should too it's like none of them actually play the game or something. The rendering of bullet hits doesn't bother me that much but the fact they didn't notice they broke it makes me worry about other things, maybe they won't notice they've made zombies kill in one hit in a future update... -
Thanks for the tip I'll try that next time, since surely it will happen again D: Yeah the timer is ridiculous, what if you're just wanting to meet up with your buddies on a server then they get in a fight "HOLD ON GUYS I'LL BE THERE...in 500 seconds..NICE KNOWING YOU" It's not enough to make me not play the game but it really needs sorted. Maybe it could depend on how close you are to something like an airfield? So if you're in a hangar, obviously you're most likely trying to server hop for loot or to camp and shoot players, 500 seconds. 500 metres away, you're trying to avoid the timer so you can just run and spam loot drops, 200 seconds maybe 250. As well as that maybe a timer for if you try to spawn in to cities/towns if you have a lot of gear, since you have no real reason to be there other than to kill fresh spawns or other players in general. And if you're not doing that then you have no reason to be mad at waiting 2 or 300 seconds as your playing legit not being an ass. That would work if they explained it, maybe at the startup screen they could have a Patch Notes thing so people would know why it sometimes takes them 500 seconds to spawn.

But it's not at all difficult to aim and shoot especially not since you only need a couple of bullets from most guns, with an M4 at appropriate distance before the barrel climbs like at all you've already killed the victim anyway it takes no real skill, that's why people like shooting games with a keyboad and mouse because it's extremely easy. Someone not used to shooting would have an aching shoulder, not know how to hold the gun properly and not know how to use it efficiently overall. That's where the classes come in they can give you a slight bonus in one field to give you a headstart in one area then you can develop other skills. As a medic you don't need to worry about bandaging being slow, so you can work on your combat. There is no sense of individuality in the game other than personality nobody has different kind of talents or is particularly good at anything other than shooting and it's retarded everyone in a group is the same, there's no value to not wearing the best equipment. There basically already is a class and it's so standard and boring everyone gets the same kind of backpack, hunter backpack usually for fighting, M4 and whatever else they choose to carry. There's a huge lack of variety and even they add more guns, there will always be a single best gun that everyone will get save for a minority. But if someone was a Scout, they could take out people with said best gun at distance with finesse obliterating their advantage. Nobody with a class is "better" than anyone else all it does is add more depth to your personal preferences, if you like sniping best, Scout is for you, if you like being well stocked, Scavenger is for you. I like the sound of activities too but I'm not sure how they would work. I mean there will always be issues with lag and whatnot which will interfere greatly and possibly make you fail even though you pressed buttons correctly. Button commands could be decent enough. Banages for example: T for a head wound F and H for arms G for torso V and B for legs. After locating wound, G to apply bandage then tap F and H to wrap it round. I like the idea of that but still I think a combo of things we've discussed would be best, you might now how to more efficiently pack a bag than someone else but you can't cross that over in to the game and it just feels so limited.
-
But you can't just get better at anything except aiming you can't control how well your character aims a weapon and deals with recoil, you can't control how fast and efficiently they apply bandages your real world reflexes to be used in game are only good for aiming and running around to dodge people's bullets. So they need to do something with it. The % was just an arbitrary measurement really however it still works ok, I don't think you should know what % you're at for anything in game just like how you don't know you blood count etc but there should be a maximum. Virtually no recoil for most guns, hardly any sway etc it sounds fine to me. I'm all for adding value to life too but no matter how you play there's no guarantee you'll last long, having to build up each skill slowly would take forever and if it didn't then that's not at all realistic. So there needs to be both. In real life, thrown in to a zombie apocalypse situation I am better with guns than the average person but I don't know how to use medical supplies that well where some guy I find could have been a doctor who can keep healthy easily. The game should be like that everyone needs to have some unique variety to them as everyone does in real life. Currently the only variety is the few guns and personality nothing is all that difficult, so with classes that don't just know how to effectively use guns immediately they face a disadvantage they have to overcome. Everyone starting the same is just boring and you have no real individuality in the game people with the same gear set are identical in every way they use guns the same and can hold the same amount of stuff but with a class and skill system you might look the same but be very very different. Would add some more tension to gameplay too like as a fresh spawn maybe you find a pistol and ammo then see some armed to the teeth too, he looks like an Infantryman so he could annihilate you and your shaky hands, but what if he isn't? Maybe his hands are shaky too.

Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
True but a bullet still has to hit a bone or something important to achieve that kind of effect a bolt just does that. So in game it should be one chest hit = knockdown and one leg hit = limping Then you still have to go up and finish them off at which point they could have turned and aimed their gun at you, so it's a very powerful weapon in game but people falling victim to it still have a chance. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
So why even have other weapons then? Why don't the devs just delete them all since everyone should just use an M4  Devastating and yet people survive getting shot quite often. I'm not saying a shot to an organ, the chest or the head doesn't do anything but it doesn't just always do more damage than a bolt does, there are plenty cases of soldiers being shot and continuing to run, an arrow going through someone takes them the crap down they have way more of an impact than a non high calibre bullet does. Maybe not a statistical impact but an impact for the one getting shot, people can adrenaline themselves through gunshots quite easily and collapse later but a bolt or arrow does not allow that you can't run with one through your leg, your muscles constantly contracting around a foreign object and said object moving around adding to the pain after a bullet is in someone it doesn't do anything else when someone adjusts to the pain they can keep going until they collapse. -
I like that too but I just don't think it's viable, not with the way people play. I mean imagine you've played for like 40 hours with one guy and gained every kind of skill, then some asshole on a hill you couldn't possibly have seen snipes you. Would it be worth it? Starting out with some set benefits and being able to build up others would be better than everyone starting the same in my opinion, balanced could just be the same as what it is now, maybe they start at like 30% skill in all areas where a medic has 100% skill in medicine but 10 or 20% in other areas, maybe even less. Well not if it was in the character creation menu. The point is that there is no "best class" it depends on how you use what you play as, like in any other shooter with a class none is innately better than the other. A Scout could pick people off at long range but if an Infantryman sneaks up on them with an M4, they're freaking dead 20 times over. With a sniper a Scout needs to avoid people since they have a small clip, just like an Infantryman needs to avoid hills because a sniper will annihilate them. The benefits are what you make of them.

Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but an M4 doesn't use 7.62x51mm rounds, it's are a lot weaker. No way should they do anything close to the same rounds a Mosin or SKS uses. Never said anything about the 7.62 rounds they're pretty much ok nothing can rapid fire 40 of them so it's not too overpowered to have them but an M4 just takes no skill to use and does too much damage, with all the gear people wear it shouldn't mutilate them in a couple of shots. -
That would be cool too however I don't think people would really live long enough or get in enough fights to see the benefits. I think that plus classes would definitely be the best option. So you can start out as a scavenger and have the benefit of holding more stuff to give you a boost at the beginning of your life, then slowly develop other skills. Or infantryman and be combat ready straight away. I really hope they add some variety like this, not everyone is the same in real life and not everyone plays the same sure but in game you can't have any kind of extra skill to be used everyone is totally the same no matter your play style even though realistically some people would know how to use medical supplies or guns or whatever else a lot better than others.
-
I'm not sure about having penalties exactly but I think just not having the benefits other classes do should be enough. The problem with playing as a medic or whatever currently is that you have no benefits, someone can just run up and kill you while you bandage yourself since it takes ages as does making a splint all things like this could be shortened for a medic so that would be incredible, they could also have more things per slot like a syringe or morphine injector they're hardly big but take up a whole inventory space, it's as silly as handcuff keys taking a whole space. So a medic could have two morphine injectors per slot and be a very useful part of the team. Just trying to play as a certain class of character doesn't really work that well everything is so slow and limited
-
As everyone else has said already. However I will add that sometimes your screen can stay blurry or black and white even if you're fine. When that happens open up the options menu and click on "video" this resets what you see essentially so if it's not supposed to be black and white it will fix. Being soaked doesn't do anything right now don't worry about it, it goes away if you switch servers. You'll need a campfire to fix it, probably after the next update.

So I had an idea in another thread, would you like to see character classes in the game? Presumably your character is a soldier or something, nobody just knows how to handle all the guns in the game or use medical supplies effectively so let's just say it's confirmed that that's the story or your character. In the army everyone has basic training in all fields and others advanced in specific. So I think it would be cool to have classes like medic, infantry, scavenger, scout, survivor and some standard balanced type. Medics can use backpacks more effectively to store medical supplies and can use them quicker as well as maybe get more use out of them, perhaps have more health/recover it faster too. Infantryman is basically the same but with ammo, they're also a more adept with non sniper firearms they are the weapon master essentially, they can take more damage than medics but don't recover as fast. Scouts have a standard gear capacity but can hold their breath longer while sniping, can use snipers slightly better, can possibly make camouflage like those kind of tent things snipers use and/or have better senses so you can hear people from further away and louder plus can zoom in further with the naked eye, also make less noise. With all their buffs though they're less skilled with anything that isn't a sniper or pistol. Scavengers are the same as medics and infantryman but they can store more food and drink plus maybe more items in general, their strength is how much of everything they can carry but otherwise they hold no benefits except some unique crafting recipes. Survivor, survivors last longer without food/drink, have access to many makeshift crafting recipes and are more effective with melee weapons than the other classes. After many sleepless nights maybe they see better in the dark too. Balanced is just standard, not exceptional in any field, not weak in any either. For people who consider the buffs of other classes to be "cheating" or consider themselves more "hardcore" for going basic. Obviously a bit more too each class than that would be necessary but you get the idea. I think that would be awesome. It's cool currently how everyone is in the same boat as you but a nice bit of variety like that would go a long way and it would make groups more efficient. Lone wolfs could be a Scout and be better at avoiding people too. Yay or nay? To be honest I think things like this really need to be added to keep it fresh.

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...
UltimateGentleman replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? I know this is still an alpha, but what do you think it would take to really bring people together and/or add some risk? Hordes of zombies, different zombie types like ones with long fingernails to slash and do bleeding damage, packs of wolves/zombie wolves, bears/zombie bears, extremely tough and fast zombies that make a lot of noise. Things that you need help to take down. So say you're in a stalemate with some dude, both behind walls not budging and inch. *crazy zombie roar* "Oh shit it's one of them!" "DUDE TEAM UP OR WE GON' DIE" Then there's also the risk of the other person/people shooting you and leaving you as bait. What about character classes? I think that could be cool, in game I think you're basically a soldier(hence knowledge of guns and whatnot) so I think some people could for example be a medic, who can put medical supplies in backpacks with more efficient use meaning they can have crap tons you might barter for. Other standard classes like infantryman who can carry more ammo, then maybe scavenger who can carry more food. (actually I'm going to make a topic about this) -
Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
UltimateGentleman replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
One thing I think people could do, provided the person has a mic is get one person to go in with their gun away as a sign of good faith. Then the person can take them hostage and know you're not going to shoot or else their friend is dead, then have a talk. When I get a mic and am in this situation that's what I'm going to demand, or I don't come out. I may or may not try to kill everyone there though, depending on how many there are and how they react to my demands, if they comply I may join then even though I'm a lone wolf. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Most of you are saying that 5.56 rounds can rip people in half and stuff but aren't explaining why bullets don't go right through much of the time. Bullets have a way higher velocity, and more power but it easily gets defused by tissue, which is why if you get shot in the arm the bullet will stay there most of the time or practically anywhere non vital. A bolt unless it hits bone keeps going until the fletches reach the skin, their power is not so easily defused. Also a 15th century crossbow is not comparable to one today, draw distance might be nearly the same or equal but back then they didn't have the kind of high tension fibres we use in the strings so that's an invalid comparison. As for the M4, I don't give a shit about it's stats it should not be more powerful than it is. Even if they made it rarer it's still going to spawn in the same place, maybe you won't find a hanger full of them but you're still likely to find one and if not server hop until you. Everyone will just do that until they have one. Why should it be more powerful when you can spray 40 rounds at people? They might as well add a minigun in while they're at it, for fairness against new spawns y'know. Making it more powerful would make the game suck unless every other gun got an equivalent buff which would similarly suck balls. -
Share a funny story or two about something crazy you did in game. Here's mine. The other day at the NE Airfield I walked in to some guy who I quickly sprinted away from(he had his gun out) obviously the dude followed me, intent to kill. Ran round the building we were at and inside it, up the stairs and then for no reason at all got a fracture, so couldn't walk. Queue minutes of rolling up and down stairs to survive, eventually I went to the tower kind of building and there the guy was under the stairs waiting for me or others, I'm not sure if he noticed me trying to roll in the place but it was a failure so I rolled back a few metres and started shooting him, totally killed him even though he should plainly have seen me roll in to place and not move he managed to miss. And then after trying to get in the building past the two hangers for like 20 minutes since there was a stick I could make a splint with I went back and this other guy found me, he had a revolver. Walked right up to me as if he was going to be nice, I had an M4 pointed at him. Must not have known ballistic helmets protect you for one bullet so he failed to kill me with the first shot then we murdered each other. Respawned like a minute away and got half my stuff back, rest was ruined. It was awesome, killed two guys while unable to walk... Anyone else had a similar experience? Having a broken leg in the game can be so intense.

Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Yeah you can hardly ever kill animals with a crossbow in one hit but that's because everything hunted with them has a thick hide, way thicker than a human obviously. Bullets can quite cleanly go through people but a bolt sticks in and causes more lasting damage so they should do more damage. Exactly. An M4 is for soldiers that need to just fire a whole clip blindly to hit one guy they hardly compare to a sniper rifle or anything like that, or a bow. Bolts and arrows are designed to maim flesh completely bullets are to hopefully hit an organ, which they often don't. People's flesh absorbs bullets nicely if it's not from a high powered rifle, there are many examples of people surviving getting shot like 12 times, 50 Cent for one got shot loads of times in the back and kept running. An arrow or bolt takes someone down you can't run with a big thing sticking through your side. EDIT nice videos of ancient weapons that are weak as shit compared to their modern equivalents. -
Feedback about shootgun. Another frustrating episode
UltimateGentleman replied to GunnyITA's topic in General Discussion
What like is your internet connection and how many people were in the server? I haven't used a shotgun much myself but the few times I have on people they've been ok, but I never use them on highly populated servers so there's not much lag. Anything less than 20m should be one hit kill though or one hit incapacitation. I think it would be better if they just added another shotgun right now, maybe a Trench Gun? It could be a bit more accurate, have a bigger clip but do slightly less damage. It doesn't seem to me like it's universally broken there's probably other factors like lag making it suck for some people. Maybe they could either increase the spread of make the spread more saturated with pellets for assured hits? -
Which can be more harmful than unlimited ammo?
UltimateGentleman replied to msy's topic in General Discussion
Not really. If people have to do that then it's no doubt because they suck at shooting. You can still sneak up on them and shoot them in the back of the head unlimited ammo doesn't make one an omnipotent badass people are still easy to fool. I don't think I've encountered anyone with unlimited ammo because I only take them on when they're not prepared, unlimited ammo means nothing. EDIT not that I wouldn't want it out of the game. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
UltimateGentleman replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Ballistics gel hardly accurately shows how much muscle tissue can reduce the impact of bullets. There are plenty examples of people surviving getting shot with no problems only when bullets hit bones, arteries or organs do they do incapacitating damage. If a bullet doesn't hit anything important the only way people die is from shock or blood loss, a crossbow bolt severs through a way larger area than the bullet and has to be either ripped out which causes more damage(that's why some arrows/bolts have freaky looking tips) or cut in half and taken out safely. If you get shot you can run around just fine for a while, you'll need medical attention but if it hits no organs you're good for a while. Try running with a crossbow bolt in you, or try having the time to take it out, you're gonna die they're basically assured to stick in you where a bullet can pass through. It makes tons of sense for it to do more damage. It should force people to the ground with a leg shot and with a shot to the side should make them hunch over and move slowly. Then you can whip out a pistol and finish the wounded animal off. -
Ok the whole crashing to the desktop thing is really starting to piss me off. I was just stalking 3 dudes in a town who I think were set up to kill just anyone, one was on the roof of the hospital so I went up there to look. Think he left by the time I got there but I turned the corner on the roof, it freezes and then it goes to the desktop game still running. It only started since the last update and it's really annoying those dudes could have destroyed me if they were there. There's that and then you have the risk of your character being reset when you start the game again it's so inconvenient. Been looking for people to fight for literally about 3 hours and then that happens suddenly >:(

Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
UltimateGentleman replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
True you can come out alive but you never know if you will they might just take all your cool stuff and make you leave, so why risk it? It's mostly bandits that play so you have a very low chance of surviving running away is easiest because if people have guns out you can run like 4 times as fast as them. -
Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
UltimateGentleman replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
Something I think they BADLY need to add is the ability to walk with your hands up so you can walk out a building and surrender because just putting a gun away is no way surrendering and you can just go in to a run instantly anyway. -
The axe is still the best it only takes more than one hit if the zombie is glitching. Just don't fight them in third person it's incredibly easy to hit them in the head in first, just make sure you click on their head ignore timing axe swings it seems more like you hit them when you click and then the attack animation is played. So if you click to the left of their head and the axe animation hits their head, the attack went to the left where you clicked. So just ignore the axe's existence essentially. Even the splitting axe takes them down in one head shot everyone just seems to be aiming at them wrong.

Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
UltimateGentleman replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
In answer to the question "Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?" Because you've probably spent at least an hour trying to find some gear, then a bunch of dudes come hold you up. You know what people are like in this game, KOS or they mess around with your and take your stuff. Or they pretend they're nice and then are like holy shit he's got a cool pistol I want that *BANG* People just aren't trustworthy. I've played the game over 90 hours and only encountered like three people using mic's, never found anyone with guns who tried to be nice. Literally not once have I found a group of dudes and not instantly had them turn round and shoot. So if I was that guy depending on what guns I had, I'd just dig in and shoot anyone who comes through the door it's not worth the risk especially not if you don't have a mic to talk people down with.
